I've been wondering, whatever happened to freeware games?

I remember back in like 2009-2010 people had lists of pretty decent freeware games for free. Right now, most of the games coming out with similar or worse quality cost $5 minimum, and the games that used to cost $10 4 years ago now usually cost $20. When did gamedevs get this jew? I can expect to pay $40 for some 2D platformer by 2020 made by a small studio with one or two titles.

There are talks about a game being spawned up again due to the explosive popularity, but nobody wants Nexon to re-open the park since it was legitimately a bad game run by jew bastards.

Once they realized you can make money out of it they all jumped on the bandwagon.

Shame, I remember spending days just downloading random half-decent freeware games and trying them all out. Ah well, Japs got our back. Also, there are still decent devolopers like Dan which did a huge update on Iji, seven fucking years after the game released, Out of the blue.

Not sure if mods count but i thought MetaDoom was interesting for a mod that tries to be a tribute to Doom without screwing the gameplay too hard.

Mibibli's Quest came out not too long ago, and that game's actually amazing
Just get the free version instead of buying it, since the new Boss that comes with purchase is shit and the developer is a huge faggot that doesn't deserve your money

Touhou fanbase churns fangames out like mad. A good chunk of them are some quality stuff.

Freeware games very much still exist. It's just that Sup Forums never goes looking for and/or talking about them now. And you can find like 80% of them on Gamejolt.
