Oh well, I guess this game had its time
No I'm still at the garbage wastes, I just havent had the time to play.
This game is so pretty tho.
No, not yet. I finally found 5 Pebbles.
I'm trying to make my way through the Generator room and the following rooms and I just keep getting annihilated.
I never found the room that people refer to as the fork of Unfortunate Development and easy road.
Yes, the ending is a treat for the eyes and ears.
I'm too busy playing Hollow Knight first. I can't split my attention between two 2d platformers or I'll just get bored of one of them.
How do I get to the shoreline through the garbage wastes?
Just keep going up and right
If you really want to go the easy route I can tell you how to get there. A kind user pointed it out for me on the map when I got to the end of the hard route and my game crashed.
You have to go through Unfortunate Development at least once or you're not a real man.
I'm stuck at leg. Holy shit, it is already massive pain getting past the damn 2 camo lizards, i end up having no fucking idea at glue bug part of where to go. if i kill the lizards and save, will they respawn?
Camo lizards where a mistake, does the music still change while they're invisible?
What's up with that red plant guide?
I know how to stash things in stomach but didn't find out how to make grenades of explosive spears yet.
That's what I'm doing.
No, no, it's fine.
I assume you're at the very start of Leg? Cause if so, you got 2 options to get to the next Hab.
>Wade through a thousand Chameleons and the first Unfortunate
>Or wade through a max of 3 and go into the rooms with all the grapple worms, pick up one and use your Throw key to becomes like Spiderman
I accidentally swiped a pearl out of moon's hands when she was in the middle of talking and now she won't translate it for me when I give it back :(
Grab a glue worm and press Throw.
Just go sleep or reload.
I haven't noticed, but they aren't that bad, they die to one spear, my issue is that i lose too much time dealing with them and then i end up running out of time by the end and not knowing where to go
I haven't noticed any other entrance aside from the grapple bugs. Also the controls for that shit is janky as fuck and i can't for the life of me make them act like i want, am i supposed to throw over and over? how do i haul myself up.
The other path is to keep going up after the entrance to the glue worm room.
Platforming is easier but it has more enemies.
What's the bottom one do? I haven't seen any objects like those yet.
How is this game? Looked at the trailer and it seemed interesting. Got a lot of games on my plate and there's no demo so not sure if I want to drop the cash on this.
Hollow Knight also looked interesting. Are these both metroidvanias or is Rain World more pure platforming?
you can't really haul up with them. I just take it slow, climb a pole, press left or right towards the next pole, and shoot it. Then jump off, cling on, and repeat. Pretty safe if you're careful.
>haul up
Throw so they launch a line and it'll drag you up. If you're on a pole that is. If you're in a hole, it's easier to drop the bug and climb up, then regrab it/another one.
>another entrance
If you keep climbing on the outer part past the one leading to the 2 rooms of grapple worms, there's another tunnel followed by 2 rooms up and a path right to the next Hab. But that's where all the lizards chill.
Bats love those red plants, keep one in your hand or drop it on the ground and they'll come to you.
>How is this game?
Painful
More pure platforming I'd say, there are very little permanent upgrades to slugcat. It's very obscure about what you're supposed to be doing and all the actions you're capable of
Oh snap, I thought the thread would die after my 5 initial posts got no replies.
Guess I might as well share my speedrun now
youtube.com
2:10:58
only 3 deaths to
- carnivours plant in shaded citadel
- blue tentacle monster in five pebbles
- blue lizard in industrial complex
I'm pretty sure you can only buy them from scavengers. Or can you?
It's hard. Really hard.
I takes elements from metroidvanias, but don't think of it as one too much. It's more like dark souls, if you could never get any better weapons/armor.
yes I beat it, they made it a little more fair with the patch tho.
Only 3 deaths for the entire game? Impressive, how much time was spent hibernating to reroll the enemy placement/dealing with the randomness of enemies?
>I'm pretty sure you can only buy them from scavengers. Or can you?
Don't know.
I was hoping someone found a way how slugcat can wrap the firecracker herb around a spear or rock.
I tried few ways but nothing worked.
Brutal, but very satisfying once you gitgud
Do scavs like mushrooms? Can I give them mushrooms like I can with pearls?
People are making a much bigger deal of the randomness of enemies than it actually is. When like me you've put 60 hours into the game, you can even deal with a chameleon lizard popping in front of you. The game took me 16 cycles in total.
There were a lot of clutch plays, a shame the video is so stuttery.
>moving from chimney canopy to sky islands
what an enormous pain in the ass. this bit just feels purpose-made to fuck you, between the titchy jumps, the random vultures (and forced long-ass open-air treks), fucking white lizards, jesus. no other section in the game has given me so much grief.
Very nice, what would you say is your least favorite enemy to deal with?
When doing the speedrun, probably blue tentacled monsters and carnivorous plant (the ones that hear you). Both are blind, but hear you really well.
Other enemies are highly previsible. As long as you keep a spear and a rock in your hands, you can deal with almost anything.
I also fear scavengers a bit. If you come across some before you've befriended them, drop your spear immediately, then throw a pearl at them (I always carry one in my stomach)
HOWEVER, the game are much more annoying enemies in areas that you don't have to cross. Notably centipedes, flying centipedes, those blue worms that grab and kill you in Farm Array too. God I fucking hate farm arrays. Region I hate the most.
Then again I've only been to Garbage Waste's entrance for the Wanderer achievement, so it could be even worse but I highly doubt it.
>all these places I've never heard the names of before
So is the world much bigger than I thought or something? 5 hours in and I'm still picking my way through various kinds underground ruins and pipes and shit.
I feel like I shouldve gone up instead of down from the start, but this far in I have the compulsive urge to map the entire place out.
This game is so brutal. Holy fuck. I got to the end of the Garbage Wastes, going from max rank to almost bottom and now I'm stuck going back and forth through the Scavenger caves just trying to get enough rank to continue.
I made it to the shoreline once but ran out of time trying to figure out how that dehydrated quid works. I couldn't being it left because it shit itself when I tried bringing it over the ledge and couldn't find a way to fit into the pipe on the right. What am I supposed to do with it?
Once you befriend Scavengers, are they friendly for good? Or do I need to find more pearls every death/nap?
Large Regions (the one separated by karma gates) are
* Outskirts
* Industrial Complex
* Shaded Citadel
* Shoreline
* Garbage Wastes
* Farm Arrays
* Chimney Canopy
* Sky Islands
* The Exterior
* Five Pebbles
* Drainage System
* Subterranean
Those large regions also contain a bunch of sub-regions (memory crypts, the leg, the underhang, etc...)
Once you have the chieftain achievement, they should be friendly for good, and even let you get past checkpoints for free. If you kill one of them you might have to give them more pearls to make up for it, dunno.
>I feel like I shouldve gone up instead of down from the start
Yes you should have. Imagine in Dark Souls if at the start of the game you went down the Catacombs first.
On the bright side, you'll have the map already explored for when you come back there later.
>FIVE PEBBLES
I just found a shit ton of scavs standing around this big skull with pearls on it, I need to throw them a pearl to pass right?
>Finally hit the first Hibernation chamber after the leg
>there is a fucking camo lizard camping it
>throw the red bombs to distract it
>it is distracted time to make my way in
>NOPE, TONGUE MOTHERFUCKER
>fucccck, it kills me
>it drags my ass wildly inside the chamber and save
T-thanks
Well, you could kill them all.
But otherwise, yes.
Do you have any tips to deal with enemies then? I seem to be completely awful at evading them or tossing spears at them
No, because I think it controls like dogshit and is mechanically frustrating. I refunded it and then watched the rest on youtube. Didn't look like I missed anything compelling.
Your speedrun is a fucking powerpoint presentation
What the fuck is that
2 fucking hours?
I've been playing for 20 odd hours and I don't even know if I'm halfway done, I've been to see moon, then was lead up the wall, then was sent back down with an extra 2 max karma by some godlike entity no idea what that was all about.
I'm now in some place called farm arrays, and it's just looped back to outskirts, I feel like I'm just going in circles.
also what on earth is unfortunate development?
tentacled horror, you best not touch it
yes
struggling with the neurons a bit but overall i love this game
Something you'll make very good friends with later
How do I make this jump? Do I need one of those exploding beetle things to launch me over it or something.
Looks like a one way drop
Maybe you could make it while holding a fly? Or try another route, I don't think I've even seen that room personally.
>pic
Which ones in particular? Most lizards can be safely jumped above when they charge at you. Their head protects them, but if you throw a rock first it'll move their head away, enabling a body spear shot.
I know, sorry
Corruption from Five Pebbles that he dumped there long ago.
There is another path up the leg, that leads you to some place called Underhang, and then to Five Pebbles. OR you can find 4 of those godlike entities like the one you find up the wall (there are 6 in total) and that'll also open the way to the end (and give you the rarest achievement)
Try swimming underwater and mashing the pickup button. You might find a spear under there that you can't see. I often find them like that. Then you can use the spear to climb up
Sometimes I catch myself watching the game for minutes after I die, it's like some weird program on National Geographic, just watching different predators hiss at each other and fight over slugcat's body. Game is unique that way.
How many have you brought her senpai?
Only other route I see is this one, and I can't reach that rope either - previous one on the bottom right of map. Only thing to the left is the karma gate I came in by and a hibernation chamber.
what is the leg? I've been to underhang from maybe sky islands? there was a lvl 5 karma gate that I missed and went to drainage instead, I'm guessing that lead to 5 pebbles and I'll have to make my way all the way back now.
durr spears, how quickly I forget. That's probably it.
Not that guy but if you bring her enough neurons will the yellow guy lead you somewhere new? Or will the greedy bitch keep trying to send you to five pebbles. Bringing them back was easier than I thought, although stressful. But I don't wanna do the trip more than necessary
Why is Adult Swim so good at making games?
I've made it past UD and got bug zapped,
I feel like I can skip it with a good conscience
I'd say you've proven yourself, my man. Go for it. I wouldn't want to do it more than once either.
Don't know that.
I recently tried pic related, and it's great. Even though the story is about bandits murdering your family and you seeking revenge, the game makes me giggle at every turn. Very good, dark humor.
only one so far
Can you kill daddy long legs? There are so many of them past the second hibernation at the leg, and while i can evade the first 3, the 4th one near the grapple bug just kill me no matter what
Did you get to Five Pebbles? That area is connected to the Underhang and is one of the areas you have to go through to finish the game. I'd reccommend this route:
Shaded Citadel>Memory Crypts>The Leg>The Underhang>Five Pebbles
I think this is a one-way path, even if you get a spear in there I don't see a way to jump to it.
Best part is when a blue lizard takes you through a tough area and then dies to a vulture before it can get to it's nest. Apparently lizard bites have a chance to kill you outright though.
This started as a small project, Adult Swim came along later to publish it.
Here is an old thread from 2012 with most of the development process:
forums.tigsource.com
someone killed one with an explosive spear
>get bitten by a blue lizard
>it starts doing the spin
>slugcat gets hammered into the wall for a good 6 seconds
>immediately after the lizard gets popped by one of those crabs and releases my now ded body
Life is simply unfair....
Bug zapped how?
I thought all those cable looking things were harmless.
The big blue lights fry you if you touch them
>Apparently lizard bites have a chance to kill you outright though.
Wiki says it's a 1 in 12 chance. It's a pretty epic feeling when your predator gets rekt and you can escape. Literally from its maws.
Nice, does this mean that all scavs will stop trying to spear me now?
Can you die to piranhas? I've been bitten by them but never killed, although I cant tell if getting bitten drains your air supply faster if you're underwater.
I've seen a few blue coloured fly creatures in garbage wastes too, they try and dive at me but ive never seen what happens if they make contact.
Yep, unless you threaten them.
I just finished Nioh and am looking for something new, burnt out on the arpg genre. Huge fan of Metroidvanias and was dissapointed by this flash sale as usual. Worth my $20?
Cicadas cant directly kill you, but they will try to bully you by ramming, and it can knock you off poles and platform.
Does touching them count as threatening them? Because they love running into me.
I had a Chameleon catch me within 1 minute of entering Industrial for the first time.
It crossed almost the entirety of lower Industrial to its home and spent 5 dots just trying to push me in and failing, bashing me against the corners and walls before finally dropping me and crawling in, annoyed and defeated.
I found a Hab afterwards and saved all that delicious map progress.
This was well before the map progress is saved even on death change.
If enough leeches attach to you, you can't swim or even climb out of the water on a pole.
The cicada squid looking bugs can't hurt you directly. Try grabbing them.
It's barely comparable to a metroidvania. It's more of a 2D platformer adventure with light survival mechanics. You might like it, but I can't say for sure.
wtf there's water lizards now? Why cant these guys fuck off
you can try hollow knight tho
20 bucks and one of the best metroidvanias i have evr played
spent +30 hours in mu first playthrough
>The ending
Finally reached the shoreline, which way to Moon? Please dont tell me it's down in the water
Just keep going right where you can. Down otherwise through pipe.
...
Follow the helper, swim right whenever you can.
>comfy
>He says as the garbage disposal thrashes against it violently
aaaaaaaaaaaaah
I already miss this area. Everything past the shaded citadel, became a huge fucking chore switching between shitty platforming with stealth
