Easy. Defeated it on my 4th attempt on NG+4.
Don't summon other players, learn to dodge all its overly telegraphed attacks. It doesn't have more than a dozen moves, they don't change during the second phase beside one move.

I beat him by standing in front of him so he does 1-3 different moves, wait for him to use a specific one and smack him in the head two times, rinse and repeat until victory.

This, never go under him, always stay in front. You have more of a chanceto dodge his fire going farther awsy from in then trying to duck under his legs

Tried him once. Got him down a decent amount and died. Didn't feel like trying to beat him again since he was optional and likely wouldn't unlock anything other than some weapons I won't even use.

Take my advice as someone who took like 3 hours to beat him and beat him on the second try after this advice:

Always stand infront of him. Rolldodge everything aside from the AOE fire breath which you just run away from. Attack at the end of combos when you see him standing still for that precious second or two. Only attack the head.

No, only thing hes weak to is lightning which I wouldnt even bother using because its safer to not even try apply it during the fight and it doesn't help that much. Use it at the very start if you want.

Dragon's in Dark Souls were never weak to poison.

If you honestly think this, I'm not surprised you have difficulty killing this boss.

If you don't feel like getting good, you can always cheese him with pestilent mercury in no time at all.

Only problem is his health and his damage that make it even a possibility to mess up on this fight, so you'll sometimes mess up timing or reads for some attacks.
Midir is third worst dragon fight.
Ancient Dragon in DaS2 is worst, dragon shrine dragon in DaS3 is second worst.

He unlocks a covenant.

And a damn fun one at that.

That's a pretty optimal build for Mdir

this. Every single stupid mother fucker I summoned for runs straight underneath him and gets hit by his feet/tail. They then go complain on reddit about bad hitboxes.

Huge bosses in this series fucking suck and it's been like that from the start. All you can see thanks to the shitty camera is a closeup of its dick for the entire fight.
