The common fan now will not give a single shit about that. And it's not like any of the games had particularly good map design either, even Path of Radiance had a lot of bland or spacious shit. Echoes will at least be a better direction in that regard.

Radiant Dawn had the worst plot before Awakening and Fates showed up.

Never played a Fire Emblem. I'd like to start with it. Is this a good starting point? Don't wanna play on the 3DS.

Fire Emblem 7, or Fire Emblem as it's called in NA for the GBA. 8, or Sacred Stones, is also fine, but even easier than 7 actually and on the GBA.

9, or Path of Radiance is on the GC is is also a good place to start. Might be hard to come by so emulation may be needed.

Even though awakening is on the 3DS it's still a perfectly fine game to start on.

Because of Tellius cucks being mad their hipster game sold like sand in the Sahara.

That one was actually one of the better maps though, some thieves to rush down before they escape and some high-threat enemy reinforcements show but (even if they are bullshit same turn reinforcements). The visual design was also beautiful.

Awakening's problem isn't just any single map design. It was that every single map played exactly the same, and the terrible unit balance paired with the OP pairup system encouraged very simple, linear tactics.

The biggest issue with awakening from a gameplay standpoint was that it was Fire Emblem: Pair-up -> Wait: The Video Game, and I highly doubt Echoes will have the same issue.

RD is a mixed bag in terms of storytelling. The plot and characters are very fractured across multiple factions and it relies on some very, very stupid plot points.

But in terms of gameplay, in particular map design, RD is one of the best in the series.

Better maps and mechanics, has some dumb story bits and makes their precious Ike gay so retards hate it. Same people who hate Conquest, useless faggots who like FE for the wrong reasons.

I think a lot of RD's criticism gets deflected with this sort of excuse and that's not quite fair. Maps are very important but so are units, and RD's character availability prevents you from allocating EXP and other resources efficiently. Also there are some nonsensical decisions that impede gameplay such as forcing the player to count out squares for enemy attack ranges like in the famicom days.
Many maps are good, but others just feel like a slog through endless hordes of enemies.

I really like how the Tellius games' take on racism was actually balanced.

People dislike the Laguz, but instead of going "lol subhumans" there's actually a base in Laguz being brutish in the case of the beasts and outright fucking pirate criminals in the case of birdniggers. There's actually an easy source of the racism in fear of people who can transform into deadly beasts instead of just because they're different.

that was a purposeful design decision though, and whether you like it is heavily based on preference, not an innately bad mechanic. I personally found it fine, swapping factions was a breath of fresh air from the using the same core group of units in every other FE. It's not innately bad unit availability like in Revelations.

Maps did have a tendency to drag on, but both Tellius games were guilty of this with bloated stats and enemy count. RD had elincia's gambit though which is my favorite defense map of all time, replaying that chapter as DLC in conquest was a massive nostalgia trip

There's also how both laguz and beorc hate the branded. Laguz actually treat them worse, and they can sense them as branded, whereas they can at least hide among the beorc. Its actually extremely hypocritical that the laguz apparently hunt the branded down, even though they're victims of hunts themselves.

I'd say they're better off leaving children out until it fits the story. Less children and more 1st generation characters. The Support seals can be used for skill eugenics at least.
Children hurt my experience since it makes characters too valuable. If one character dies their death locks you out of another character and chapter. Just add more paralogues for 1st gen units and skip all the support bullshit.
