In another interview with Express Online, Jeff Kaplan gave some extra remarks about a Switch port of Overwatch:
>Kaplan said that he was proud of his team for being able to patch simultaneously, and that a Nintendo Switch port would make that difficult. "Our first couple of patches would come out on PC first and then later on the consoles," he continued. "And a lot of that is because you're working with Microsoft and Sony, and you want to be compliant to their ecosystems. Adding a third ecosystem to that just adds a lot of complexity for us, as well."
>Kaplan is, however, a big fan of the Nintendo Switch, and hasn't ruled out a Nintendo port completely. "But I always like to tell people we're very open-minded about what platforms we could be on. Just because we're not on a platform right now, it doesn't mean we won't reconsider it in the future, so we stay aware of all these things."
Tl;dr: It's still unconfirmed and unlikely, but Jeff is optimistic about a port of Overwatch coming to the Switch

+1

I honestly don't see it ever happening. Maybe a spin off for all consoles, but Overwatch itself won't come over.
Juan Bennett
I expect this is how most western developers feel right now. Nintendo's successes and failures are kind of sporadic. When they get a hit, they get a hit. But when they bomb, they bomb.
Honestly, if I were a third party, I'd definitely keep my eyes on the system and not rule it out. But I'd be in a wait and see situation. I would consider throwing some older games that wouldn't be hard to port to it, though, just to see how the audience reacts to it.
Hearthstone and Diablo III would be definite sells, though. I think they should bring those two over Overwatch.
Nolan Reed
depending on the console sales and the attachment rate they will probably make a port of it.
Jonathan Lee
they'll change their tune if hardware sales continue to be high
we'll see if MK8 deluxe gives a boost, if not, then doubtful
either way overwatch is shit and blizzfags are battered spouses with shit taste and will buy anything with their logo on it because muh waifus. blizzard has them by the balls
Adam Scott
>Hearthstone and Diablo III would be definite sells, though. I think they should bring those two over Overwatch. Definitely agree on these. Local co op on Diablo 3 console ports was incredibly popular, and I could see it be an even bigger hit on a portable console.
Easton Jackson
overwatch online would be dead on the switch after a month. nobody wants to play a gimped PC game on a handheld
John Jenkins
Maybe if they got it running on the Switch but at lower settings than PS4 and Xbox One, I'd be ok with that. Perhaps they could keep the characters a bit more detailed but tone down the poly count and texture quality of the maps.
Adrian Richardson
t. The nintenbro who will buy literally anything so long as Mario says WAHOOOO at least once
Isaac Sanders
Mortal kombat 8 will not make it to switch
Brayden Evans
>Hearthstone and Diablo III would be definite sells, though. I think they should bring those two over Overwatch.
I could not agree more, and honestly I'm a little surprised that hearthstone is not already on the switch. its basically an advanced mobile app that already has a fan following, it would've worked very well at launch
Joshua Lewis
Guarantee right now because of the platforms weakness it'll have to be its own secluded version because it wont be able to load or use the assets from the main version.

kek

>Nintendo >Third party support
Overwatch is both too violent and has too high of a skill ceiling for Nintendos target demographic. Splatoon already fills the """hardcore""" shooter niche.
Bentley Cox
>Jeff is optimistic about a port of Overwatch coming to the Switch You're reading into it. "Never say never" is a far cry from "Yes"
Lucas King
who the fuck cares? FPS games are trash on consoles.
Hudson Nelson
>What is Payday 2
Joseph Gomez
overwatch on switch's slow wifi? lmao
David Roberts
Mario Kart came first.
Adrian Rogers
If I was a big western dev I wouldn't even bother. People who buy Nintendo consoles buy it for Nintendo and Japanese games. I'd only want to put either small indie titles or relatively low-effort franchises like Just Dance to appeal to people who only have the system.
James Brooks
>An old, now defunct third party title whos playerbase has moved on for the most part
Sounds like every third party title for every Nintendo console since the Gamecube.
Robert Brooks
really reaching here huh?
Do not reply to me.
Easton Turner
You might have been right at one point, but I've seen the Switch in situations I've never considered. A friend of mine is married and his wife likes to watch TV. So he just plays games on the Switch. They're looking forward to playing Stardew Valley together.
I personally toss it in my bag when I go hang with my friend while he plays Magic. Last time I was there, there was another guy with a Switch. Local co-op would have been great, but we both had Zelda so that was a no go at the moment. But if I see him next time and I have MK8, times will be had.
I think the Switch is great for people who don't have a lot of down time in their lives and want a fuller experience and don't mind the graphical fidelity losses if it just lets them play when they have a half hour of free time.
So when it comes to that, I think some games suit the Switch, and some won't. Fighting games suit it, local co-op games suit it, and I think Skyrim will tell us if single player third party games have a place on it (depending on how good the port is).
What doesn't really suit it (unless the game is altered) are always online games. Overwatch is kind of useless if you're out and about but there's no wi-fi around. Hearthstone has those single player campaigns, so it can get a pass. But overwatch has nothing.to do when no wi-fi is around.
Chase Smith
Who the fuck cares. WHO THE FUCK CARES
WHO WANTS TO UNIRONICALLY PLAY OVERWATCH ON A CONSOLE TO BEGIN WITH? WHY? DOESN'T EVEN HAVE GYRO AIMING.
Caleb Miller
But it could if it was ported to the Switch
Brandon Edwards
>Fighting games suit it,
How the fuck are you supposed to even pull of something as basic as a hadouken with such a tiny fucking d-pad? Maybe if you're japanese, but western hands are far too big to do anything with that piece of shit.
Brody Powell
Blizz would never bother working on gyro controls ala Splatoon
Ryan Lee
If you have giant hands you'll probably have to bring a pro controller.
Jonathan Allen
Hearthstone or Diablo 3 makes more sense than Overwatch.
Daniel Taylor
>wanting to play that game at 20 fps
Michael Green
I don't see why not.
They did lots of cool exclusive things for the console ports of D3
