Yooka-Laylee

It's amazing how great this game turned out with everything & everyone riding against it.

Reminds me of the 2016 US election

And that ending? Wow!

Shitposting aside, I'm actually enjoying it. The level design isn't great, the camera sucks, and the puzzles are eay, but I like everything else.
I pirated it, though, so take that for what it's worth.

How do I get to World 5?

Go back a bit, from the cashino. Find the snake learn to fly then fly over some green ooze and it's just past it.

>1 token

ravioli ravioli give me the death I deservioli

I don't even know where to even begin with the pirate treasure.

this game is amazing its low scores and meh reviews are an insault. i werent it expecting great visuals from this but maxed it really is a treat for the eyes and running at like 90+fps its so slick and the graple is so fast it feels perfect dont the consoles spit this out at 30fps lol

Did you do the pig escort mission there? If not you can make the level not load properly and fly through the area with only a few enemies and all the collectibles visible.

no jon no buy

no e-celebs go die

I literally only have one token left to collect with 24/25 pagies. I even found the pirate treasure which was hidden in a very meme spot

get the unpatched version ;^)

I wish it had been longer, with more worlds instead of the expansion thing. Expanding worlds sounded really good, but in practice I always had enough pagies to expand every world right way. so it was kinda pointless. Plus , it was inconsistent as fuck:

>expand Cashino
>it's just two more games on the walls and a couple extra rooms

>expand Galaxy Galleon
>90% of the world's content is there

7/10 for me.

Welp use that hunter tonic and walk all over, I guess. Try the big fountain in the middle.

hunter tonic doesn't work on tokens

I've had a lot of fun playing it.

Though the camera can be a little janky

100%ed the game, it was alright, but not amazing. 7/10

Check under the ramp that leads into the card house. Either that, or check the giant gold course flagpole top

It really sucked how nothing happened at the end and you just had a party after a lame boss fight and resolving nothing.

And the pirate treasure Does fucking nothing. DLC?

golf* course

Yeah, ending sucked. Also annoyed me how they presumed there would be a sequel, like how pretentious can a developer get?

>when grow home is a more fun unity game than yooka laylee
Feels ok man. I would have fucking loved yooka if I was a small child tho

>how they presumed there would be a sequel

It was the same in Banjo-Kazooie. I guess it's supposed to be meta or something.

But then again, the ending in Yooka-Laylee deliberately sets up a sequel.

There's also a secret from the toybox where if you ground pound on a rock in galleon galaxy a robot from the toybox appears and tells you to wait and does nothing else.

every banjo game assumes a sequel, it's meant as a joke.

we're still waiting on banjo-threeie

pirate treasure unlocks the athlete tonic

I know Banjo did it, but it feels annoying in this game for some reason...

it was the golf course flag pole. I'm mildly triggered but at least I'm done. now all that's left is eye strain galaxy

I thought the way it worked was you had to collect x number of pages within the world itself before you could expand it which was a neat idea in my mind so I did it for every world but world 5.

How pretentious, indeed.

the pirate treasure is in the entrance above the book, use the helicopter to get it if you can't fly yet

glad I could help, that was the last token for me also, so I figured it would be the problem.

yeah I found it when I was checking that area for a token. cheeky fucking treasure. glitterglaze treasure is the most PTSD-inducing one so far

If they make a sequel, the expanding world gimmick is definitely something they should flesh out better. Like, have the world's start out small and almost cramped like the original Banjo, only for the expanded worlds to be like Tooie. That way it's a much more satisfying compromise for people who like either game, rather then already making the default worlds almost Tooie-sized.

better yet either

1. cut out expanding worlds entirely

2. have every world automatically expand when you beat the final boss

God no, just have all the worlds expanded at the start, and have collectibles to something more worthwhile (Can't believe there was nothing to do with the extra pagies and quills except unlock a tonic by having them all... let me buy stuff with them...)

That's a nice joke.

In all honesty it should just be more designed like Banjo-Kazooie where we have several smaller scaled worlds. I know there are people do love Banjo-Tooie's big ass stages, and so I do, but Banjo-Kazooie is by far the most lauded of Rare's 3D platformers due to its simplicity and pace. For a game that was supposed to remind us why we liked the genre to begin with, it's a real shame Playtonic couldn't have modeled it after what is generally considered the best of Rare's collectathons.

I found the treasure for worlds 1,3 and 4 while just looking for other shit but worlds 2 and 5 have some seriously fucking impossible to find ones so I used a guide.

It's entertaining I expected a retro 3D rare playformer and that's what I got, it won't change gaming but it achieved what it was going for

For you.

Yooka's pants are neat.

PAGIES IN CAGIES?

banjo-kazooie having perfect world size is a fucking meme, the worlds used a shitton of interior space to get passed the n64's file sizes. the later stages weren't small at ALL, definitely not much smaller than a world like capital cashino.

this whole "world too big" shit only stems from the autistic empty spaces of DK64, and the empty space in tooie because they literally removed collectables from the game.

>Also annoyed me how they presumed there would be a sequel

What did they call it?

Have you looked on top of the goal post, and below the ramp where you break the glass (next to the NPC slot)?

>everything & everyone riding against it
literally everyone was riding WITH it until the jontron business and then when it released with huge performance issues. People supporting it so hard is the only reason it was even made.

>and the empty space in tooie because they literally removed collectables from the game
Fucking this, note bundles were a mistake.

So whens the 64bit update and DLC world coming?

Nothing. It was just referred to as "the sequel"

They didn't call it a name, but they implied a sequel throughout the game

The lighting that they settled with, either because of Unity or because they don't care, only has two modes: very good looking or garbage. If anything gets cast in shadow it seems to lose all lighting properties and original shadows that it used to have, making the scene very desaturated and flat.

Moodymaze is a fucking garbage-looking level because of this.

>and then when it released with huge performance issues
>bk runs at 12 fps sometimes
>BT needed additional hardware to run as well

So business as usual?
I got lucky and the game didnt have the slowdown that most people seem to get after playing a bit, and I just finished 100% sometimes played for 7+ hours at time.

I thought note bundles were good on the contrary since they reduced the number of frustration caused by missing single notes than might be hidden (which feels unfair), while simultaneous allowing for one hidden note, the treble clef. It felt like a nice balance between collecting basic collectibles on the road without it being autistic, and looking for hidden treasure; unlike YK where 200 quills makes you want to kill yourself, since they are so frustrating to look, especially since some are hidden, but you can't ever know for sure.

On PC I had a framerate low of 150fps so I never experienced any issues playing for hours at a time.

>unlike YK where 200 quills makes you want to kill yourself

Really? I never had any issue finding everything once you get flight.

I agree it was cool but there were far too few notes for how much bigger the levels were. They should have upped the count to compensate then, 200 but with bundles to keep it at the same actual number of 100 things to find like kazooie

>So business as usual?
Yeah but at least on the 64 pretty much everything ran like garbage so it didn't look as bad by comparison. These days its simply not acceptable.

I haven't played it yet because I was going to play it on the switch, but after seeing it running horribly on the xbox one I can't imagine how bad it will be on switch. Looks like I'll have to play it on pc.

Yeah I know, was being facetious

I have it coming on switch as well. Already pirated and 100% it though, will replay it in 64 bit mode on switch most likely when that drops.

Yeah in YK I ended up with a natural 190+ quills every world before I actually had to start a focused search for them.

The only "fuck you" quills I remember were under the spindash thing in world 4, the one hidden in shovel knight's area in world 1, and the ones right behind the start under a meteor in world 5.

Hell I even got all the world 3 quills before I started looking for them, I just naturally ended up getting the quill pagie while dicking around.

Finished the game, was good. Would've been better if the worlds were smaller and I would've loved more of them. 200 quills sucks, especially if they're on some sort of slide and you miss one and you have to redo all of it just to get that one quill. I feel like they accomplished what they set out to accomplish though which is good, one of the few kickstarter projects I've heard of that have actually turned out ok. Probably not worth the $45 AUD to buy on release if you're not nostalgic over rare's previous titles, would be worth around $20. I'll buy Tooka-Laylee if they decide to release a sequel and any DLC worlds they release given they're not like 25% of the price of the base game

At least Notes were required for game progression in the Banjos. Other than 100%ing the game, there is absolutely no incentive in this game to find every quill (and to buy all of Trowzer's moves you need only like 300 total.) There might was well have been 150 quills per world with no impact whatsoever.

Same feelings here.

This game fits pretty well in between tooie and kazooie for me. I get the reason for certain less than ideal design choices but it was a fun 24 hours. The levels never reached Tooie levels though which was sad to me. And un-expanded some were like kazooie or smaller. I guess I just never felt completely lost or frustrated with the world size like in tooie. I still have trouble completing that game 100% to this day.

Well, I 100% the game in the end, but some of the quills where absolute cancer to find. Those that were hidden in particular : the one hidden in the shovel knight quest, the ones that weren't recheable initially on top of rocks in the first world (quills are meant, I think to indicate a road/path/things to do, not be on top of useless things), those hidden under stairs in Cashino or in the Swamp area, the ones hidden in the meteor, etc.

Thats not true, you need 300 by world 2. Its closer to 600 for all moves.
I think there should have been something to unlock like in kazooie at the end though.

Will pirate skulls transfer to the sequel?

pirate skulls unlock a tonic

>64 bit mode
I haven't been following the game too closely. What is that?

Yeah it would have been neat to go in to the last fight with like a 1010 quill door and then be able to spend a shitton of pagies on a tome of health or energy or something.

Or even have it unlock some cheesy reference cosmetic like a set of bear arms for yooka and some feathers for laylee.

Supposedly will make the graphics look like N64 (but they haven't released it yet so it's currently impossible to get, REEEEEEEE)

The golf flagpole one is especially dickish, since it's very difficult to see.

I already helped them

Anyone know if the secret pirate treasures have any purpose in the game? I wonder if they're planning on pulling a Stop n Swop kind of thing.

Yeah, it was the last one for me since I thought that was the design of the flagpole until I got really close to it in helicopter mode

Not true, I had all but 2 (pants and all pagies) before getting the skulls or even doing much of world 5 at all.

Uhh.... they are needed to unlock the Athletic tonic

interesting, I guess I'll just wait and see how it fares on the switch before I buy. Is there a release date for the switch yet?

>im retarded

I meant to say pants for all pagies and athletic.

I had athletic way before I expanded world 5.

Yeah, I thought the same as well, I had to actually look it up online. It's the only thing I looked up, with how to get the energy booster in the hub, and the Pirate Treasure in the ice world.

So how would you compare YL to N64 Rare games?

Is it worse then DK64? Because that game is the line between garbage and good

Impossible.

Athlete: Do everything in the game, including collect all 5 Pirate Treasure

Some sources say Athlete is acquired by getting all power extenders, not pirate treasures.

Others are saying you need every collectible in the game but that's obviously false if this user is telling the truth.

The game isn't as good as the initial hype but definitely not as bad as the reviews and the but-hurt jon tron fans claim it to be. Good games with obvios flaws, the definition of a 6-7/10 for me. Show great potential for the genre if they could fix the easily recognizable and fixable design issues.

BK > BT = Conker = YK >> DK64

My opinion is here
My biggest gripe is a lack of moves you learn. I think its because they cut climbing and had fewer worlds and so fewer progress gates. Banjo had to learn a lot of climbing though so more useless moves were cut which is okay..

BK>BT=YL>Conker>>DK64

Worse than all their N64 games. It's OK. But it's more like a fan game than a real Rare game. Lacks all the charm of those ones.

youtu.be/__AQ18xd3bg
what'd the pagies mean by this

>the internet is 100% right
This is almost never true on release week.

For instance trowser moving to the next area in the hub has an odd trigger too thats extremely hard to place.

Also not right sadly. I have no idea how I got athletic but I was missing the hub stamina extender until the very end when I finally used hunter. I was at like 70% completion I wanna say when I randomly got athletic.

What if its just distance explored or something retarded? I was all over in my playthrough thanks to getting flight real early and still walking through new content. Only used flight to get to previously been areas mostly.

Hmm, maybe. I never really bothered keeping track of tonics until I collected everything, so maybe mine unlocked earlier too and I just never noticed

It might just be energy spent in total.

To be sure someone would have to decompile the game, since it's a Unity game someone could go hunting in the code unless playtonic invested in an obfuscator.

>I identify as an attack helicopter

Has Jon come out with his impression on the game? Or is he remaining silent out of respect for the devs?

I love it personally. Haven't played a collectathon since 64, and YL hit all the right nostalgia for me.

How may hours did you guys get out of the game?

These kind of games are my cup o tea but I was surprised to have it done in under 30 hours

100%ed the game, took about 26 hours

I'm about 15 hours in and I'm only about 2/3 of the way through.

20 hours, almost 21. 100%'d it.

i dunno, but i already have five hours, haven't 100% world 1 yet, and just started on world 2. i'm taking my time.

BT>YL>DK64>BK

This game is a 6/10 at best. If you think it's worth 40 dollars you have shit taste.

lol fag

40 is a perfect price desu
