>not having a PM scene in your regional Smash scene

I remember this meme.

There's probably a bunch of autists already working on a mod for Smash 4.

Of course.

What happened to that? There was discussion on leddit but the fucking mods deleted all of it to flex their powers.

Yes, I remember how your devs acted like manipulative faggots and coordinated with smashboards and TO's to blacklist people from talking about or playing the leaked build with lyn, knuckles, and isaac, and gave a BS excuse about "respecting creator intent" and how it'd put them at legal threat even though Project M went against nintendo's intent and they still hosted and allowed talking about and playing the other project M builds that would be just as legally threatening.

I miss you

Reminder that the Devs lost their fucking shit and basically destroyed the brawl modding scene as a result of their rage

If you try to actually make anything without the acceptance of the big members then you'll be banned and blacklisted

Yes. Although I understand your purpose, I never cared for you. I'm not much for competitive Smash, and I hate your community.

Yeah. I really like PM as it's what got me into Melee. I can see why people wouldn't like it though it's definitely got jank and the combo game while I appreciate is goddamn ridiculous. A Zelda that wasn't complete ass was so cool though.

I do, great step up from Brawl. Too bad that development stopped.

Did anyone make any good derivatives?

>fox couldn't be touched because muh holy cow
>being killed off the top by Fox Uair at less than 70% somehow needed to be in the game
>dying to his stupid upsmash 2 frame combo/kill move at 80~

What was the whole point?

Fuck the devs and their bullshit excuse. Anyone knows what actually happened with the game?

According to the individual members of the team, what really happened is that they found out the scope of the project made them legally more vulnerable than they thought, so rather than take the risk they just shut down the project before Nintendo could.

(Different user) Wait, if that was the reason, then what was the excuse they collectively gave?

Yeah, I remember how it killed Brawl+ a mod where all landing lag was halved by default without needing to press the L button and characters were their Brawl versions but buffed accordingly to be more balanced rather than being either Melee clones or changing Brawl newcomers attacks for no good reason (Like making Lucario a Ryu clone)

Why did they pull the plug, again? Did Nintendo secretly come after them?

I don't think so. I think they thought Nintendo might get them, so the team decided not to risk it.
From what I heard, Nintendo was against Project M, but they didn't do much to harm it.

The most harm Nintendo did to PM was killing any competitive spotlight on Twitch, which meant they had to settle for Hitbox while that was still vaguely relevant.

Are you certain?
I think Nintendo was definitely pulling strings with Twitch banning PM streams and big tournies like CEO dropping PM.

It's really sad too because PM was actually starting to boast viewers higher than Melee at the time.

yeah...

considering what Nintendo eventually did to fan games months later, they may have made the right choice. I don't blame them for wanting to be safe.

It wasn't enough that PM and all leak discussion was killed off by the Dev Team mafia, but its death wiped out any interest people had in modding Brawl (and Smash 4 to an extent).
All I wanted was to have a good Cloud skin for Ike.
Fuck the dev team and fuck the drones on Smashboards, Reddit, and Discord who killed the 3.61 Community Complete build.

To my understanding Brawl+ suffered on its own from not having a clear development direction; updates were too frequent and spread out for there to be a consistent meta to follow.

What a bunch of pussies, even if they were afraid of Nintendo coming after them, they didn't have to kill the community and prevent other people from continuing the project.

>I never got my Brittany alt for Olimar

It's not fair.

I kind of agree but considering we don't know all the details of what happened I'd give them the benefit of the doubt.

It's foing to take like three years, but how do you think their smash-clone is going to turn out?

The PM isn't making that you fucking moron

I'm excited to see what they do. A lot of people complain about the "jank" in PM but considering the direction the updates towards the end went (toning down a lot stuff), the new project may turn out to have the right feel for an even wider playerbase.

not him but at the very least Strong Bad is one of the main members and Silentdoom helped out for some of the animations (iirc).

nah the whole thing was still stupid

Think whatever you want, but I'm not going to make assumptions I shouldn't. Anyway I'll be looking forward to the non-Nintendo related stuff they make next.

smash 4 came out and it was much better than vanilla brawl.
we no longer needed a modded brawl to have fun so behind the scenes the dev team eventually lost interest.
it had nothing to do with a cease and desist

>smash 4 came out and it was much better than vanilla brawl.
true
>we no longer needed a modded brawl to have fun so behind the scenes the dev team eventually lost interest.
false
>it had nothing to do with a cease and desist
true

As much as I loved Project M, I kind of figured in some cases the fanboys were asking for it. They kept trying to pick a fight with Smash 4, the official product, thumping their chests and daring Nintendo to do something about it. If Nintendo didn't do them in, it was their own egos that sealed the deal.

Nintendo didn't pick a fight with PM. The devs stopped the development before that could occur.

i was huge into the mod and watched it slowly die when smash 4 came out.
very little work was done on the mod itself after wii u became a thing. even that knuckles/lyn build was almost identical to the leaked footage of them a year before.

they clearly were padding out updates with costumes while there was internal drama and users jumping ship

>Neos
>USM-eM

>very little work was done on the mod itself after wii u became a thing.
Not true. We got updates, and the new characters were always on the back-burner. It's unfair to assume that little work was done overall just because the thing at the bottom of the priority list hadn't changed. Also the costumes are a different department from the balance dept.

Without outing any particular members of the exPMDT, I spoke with one at a festival and asked if anyone was already in legal trouble and he seemed genuine when he said everyone is fine, but this was the move they had to make. Take that how you will..

When? Do you have an example or is this all hearsay?

sorry, I play fighting games

It's going to be shit if it's just "muh spacies", if people want that they'll just continue playing Melee, I seriously hope they come up with some unique archetypes

pm was objectively better than the shitpile game it modded whether you cared about tournament play or not

any other opinion is uneducated or autistic nostalgia

It will always be my favorite variant of Smash, but I didn't like how the community couldn't continue past the team's disbandment. Like people have already said, that team leaving pretty much placed a pseudo halt on the majority of other modding and such, though I wasn't too big on other Smash mods.

It's whatever now. I wasn't as devastated about them going away as others were, so I went to other games, but I can always go back to PM whenever since a few friends of mine still play.

Yeah.
