Fair enough. As much as I love Xenogears, and I fucking love Xenogears, I would not want to have played it for much longer than I did.
I don't think there's ever been a better candidate for a remake or updated re-release. The game just needed more money and more time.

You didn't even get to the end of the first disc. Disc 2 is where the trouble really starts to show. Squaresoft was running out of patience and starting to panic about its other projects, so most of the money intended for Xenogears got rerouted to Final Fantasy (8 or 9 depending on who's telling the story) and they got given a deadline to have a retail-ready build by or see the whole project scrapped. As a result you get one disc of brilliantly polished critical path content, then 40 hours of gameplay and story kludged down into 10 hours of dialog and unfinished dungeons, then the mostly finished endgame.
It's still a fucking grand experience that I think everybody should play through at least once, but I get why it doesn't work for some people.
