Lets say we prohibit exclusives, what does that mean? you have to port your game to every system? including for example the OUYA? or just two systems is enough? so geting a PS4 and Vita version is enough? or do they have to be systems made by different companies?

I'm pretty sure most devs will follow the money to iOS, specially with how the PC market is right now, being dominated by Steam and Steam being flooded with games so much that the revenue is extremely spread.

This is exactly the point, though. The industry would be healthier with one platform. Everyone would have access to all games, and publishers would bid for the right to, well, publish.

There's nothing that would stop Sony or Nintendo or MS from developing their own platform still, it just wouldn't be exclusive. Everyone would benefit from every game, more optimizations, and a healthier development of technology.

As it is now, it's allowed to stagnate. If you're a business, you want MORE people to buy your product, not less. I still haven't been convinced to buy a PS4, and I'm not the only one. How much money is that from Sony's pockets that I'd otherwise be willing to spend if there were only one platform? It's lots.

Nintendo Switch isn't cheaper than the PS4. You can get a PS4 and Uncharted 4 for the same price or even less if you buy from Amazon.

There would always be competition. Publishers would be competing for the IPs they owned the rights to publish. They'd still make money according to how their games did.

Proprietary hardware is an unnecessary stepping stone. It was relevant once, but it's not anymore, and the industry has refused to change.

One thing I like about exclusivity, is that the devs can focus on making the games work best on their platform. I mean, this doesn't really go for Zelda, but as a PC+PS4 fag, I see the opportunity there.

Games like Uncharted, HZD and even shit games like The Order, look really really fucking well on a relatively low hardware as the PS4 You won't see those games on PCs with similar specs, or PC in general.
In the same way, PC only games tend to do much better as well. Especially in regards to memory management.

Just think about how TW3 could look if it wasn't a multiplatform title, and exclusive to PC. I mean, I'm glad its on PS4, but I'd be lying if I'd say that its not the consoles that are responsible for the downgrades.

While I would love if all of my favorite games came out on PC and I never had to buy a console or handheld again, there's a thing called market saturation. A lot of good games get their time to shine BECAUSE they're console exclusive. If they were just yet another game on Steam they'd almost always fade into the background. Having multiple platforms leads to more competition.

As an idort I thoroughly enjoyed BB and Nioh and the only PC game I purchased in the last year or so was Total War Warhammer (which is fantastic).

I'm an action game fan and Nioh is the closest thing I've gotten to one of those in a long time.

A remaster of a PS3 game is still a game that was originally on the PS3. Textures may be 4K now or whatever but it's the same game, it's the same story and gameplay.
