Drakengard 3 is kinda-sorta a prequel to D1 when it comes to Ending A, but Yoko pulled an alternate universe/timeline card to explain discrepancies. So while technically Ending A does cause D1, it's not exactly the same.

Spoilers for Drakengard 1 and Nier.

Drakengard 1 Ending E ends with the protagonist and his dragon getting swallowed in a portal with the final boss. They end up in present day Tokyo.
Dragon and final boss corpses disintegrate and particles cause people to turn into pillars of salt. Humanity separates body from soul in order to stop the sickness. Souls are gestalts, bodies are replicants.
Nier begins 3000 years later.
Replicant Nier manages to kill his own gestalt, thus dooming humanity because Gestalt Nier was the only stable gestalt and was a critical part in restoring all human gestalts in their replicants.
Humanity dies out. Except Emil.
Couple thousand years later, dick-shaped aliens invade. Emil defends earth with millions of copies of his balls. Remaining Earth androids eventually create Yorha.
Another couple thousand years later, Nier Automata begins in 11 000 something.

In the ending D route with the super bullshit final boss, Zero was already converted, but Mikhail and the circumstances allow for her to be destroyed, wiping the Grotesquerie Queens from that timeline and preventing all of Drakengard from ever happening. The ending A route leads to a modified Drakengard 1 where Caim died earlier, pacts don't exist, and other shit.

There was actually a novelization, Drag-On Dragoon 3 Story Side, that served to create a fifth ending that more properly sets up Drakengard 1.

A novella of D3 is what leads into D1, and a separate story branch entirely.. It takes elements from alot of the endings but.

Zero dies withoutt becoming full salt thing. Mikhail dies. all the sisters die. Brother one lives, and ends up creating the cult of the watchers in honor of his sister. He didnt intend it to be evil.

Manah and her brother in D1 are descendants of Brother one.

D1 ending A leads into something. E leads into Nier.

D2 is seperate from everything for some reason.

Zero and the flower were essentially just the ones that would create a foothold that caused the rest of the events in those timelines, the "Watchers" are literally eldritch abominations that want to cleanse the earth and keep trying to find ways to do it.

Well you gotta remember that the queen and babbies only appeared after a set of increasing fucked up story branches. So they could theoretically came from anywhere.

A freind of mine thinks the queen is zero somehow, but i dont buy that.

I was hoping for more, honestly. I would have liked some prequel story, or to hear about NieR (the original) being remade by platinum.

I mean, it's ok. I'll still probably buy it eventually, but I've already deleted my save once, then went back and got a plat on the game (and I actually earned it; didn't buy any trophies). There's not much left for me to do, which makes it kind of a bummer that NieR: Automata isn't getting any more Story DLC.

That said, I hope they eventually have the Fool's Weapons from the NieR DLC (Fools Lament is the coolest looking weapon ever, in my opinion).
