In terms of story and cast, how is Persona 5 compared to Persona 3 & 4 overall, Sup Forums?
In terms of story and cast, how is Persona 5 compared to Persona 3 & 4 overall, Sup Forums?
Better than 3, not as good as 4.
It's solid
Persona 4 had better waifus. Persona 5 has a better written story, but people prefer the tone and style of Persona 4 though
In terms of story it's better than 4 and I would say it's better than 3, but 3 has higher highs, like it's ending.
I think the cast is better than both in all but two regards. One is the cast distribution, Haru comes in too late and gets overshadowed by the plot, though she's still great in her Co-Op and for what short time she's given attention. The other is that there's not enough relaxed moments for the group to just be friends, so they feel kind of distanced. They have a good dynamic in text messages, but having them have a good dynamic in person would go a long way. Thankfully, the latter complaint can be fixed in a re-release.
i can t understand how someone rates persona 4 plot OR cast as better than 5.
For me 5 > fes > 4 > 3
Trash
P5 should have been a game with a more serious cast
Would have been GOTY
Like seriously fucking faggots wanking over a popularity site
Out of curiosity, what are the things that make the cast better than both?
Fuck off P3fag
In terms of writing/story it's better in some ways than 3 but worse in others.
It's definitely better overall than 4 though. Not only do you get a stronger sense of comradely, the characters aren't complete cocksucking stereotypes.
I'm really annoyed by the fact the game takes away so many days from you, and forces you to walk to bed when you have no other options
Just let me fucking autosleep at that point.
story
p5 > p4 > p3
cast
p5 > p3 > p4
That's some hipster tier thinking, user.
>popular game
>trash
Unless you mean the popularity meter in the game itself, then yes, that mechanic was kind of stupid.
But you do have options!
>maybe MAYBE watch TV
>redecorate like a HGTV faggot
>Implying 4 is anywhere near as good as 3, let alone better
Maybe i'm just too nitpicky now, P4 and P3 were my entryway to SMT games, and now P5 just feels tedious to play.
I figured the first game after the fusion interface of SMT4 they would manage to improve it, but they just made it worse.
4 does character interactions better than 3. It actually felt like IT were a group of friends.
It's sort of unfair to compare 3 and 5 directly in general.
It's sort of like comparing DaS with DaS3. Technically and objectively speaking DaS3 is better at pretty much everything other than level design, but DaS, at least in my opinion, is still a better game for reasons that I find hard to express. There's just something about it. I feel the same about FES and 5
How the fuck can you people prefer 4 over 3? Is it just because you played it first or what?
Nigga i don't even like P3 that much
I mean the whole fansite in the game, I was fucking sick of the dialogue talking about that shit and how their goals was revolving around it.
And the game itself isn't trash, like after playing this I can never replay another persona but the cast in P5 is garbage, nothing like what i expected off the prologue.
Cast is damn good, considering how some of your party members (like Makoto and Futaba) actually do some work to help the team out, instead of you doing everything like in 4.
I didn't like how they shoved a bunch of stuff at the end. Primarily Valentines day. Valentines day is P4G was brutal if you romanced multiple people, but in this game it's just a silly thing, and then it immediately dumps you into end
>Technically and objectively speaking DaS3 is better at pretty much everything
Not at combat, Das doesn't encourage spamming the roll button and is much more focused on managing stamina
More like a group of retards.
In 3 they actually all live together and you see them all together in the lounge every night and non-school day, not to mention the characters are all better than in 4. 4 is ultimately a hollow copy of 3.
See, i think that's fair enough, because FES brins the most of both the plot and the cast of P3.
But p4?
I'm not gonna get in a derailing argument. You get the point, hopefully.
9/10. Atlus is really going to have to step it up in order to achieve better than P5.
I'm not sure I get what you mean
Far better than P4, and for the most part better than P3 if it weren't for the annoying anime cat mascot.
I like both the P3 and 4 cast, for the most part. I think that the P3 cast has good development and their issues and how they deal with them tie into the themes of the game really well. My issue with them is I barely got attached to any of them because most of them were just so bland, they felt like they had all of the ways they woudl tie into the themes written first, but the developers forgot to make these characters behave in a way that was at all endearing. I was just bored by my interactions with everybody but Junpei, Akihiko and occasionally Aigis.
The P4 cast had the opposite problem in that they were poorly developed and they didn't feel like they were smartly connected to the games themes, which I blame on P4 lacking a solid theme more than anything, but I was entertained by them. Even if it was a very shallow form of fun, I had fun with the P4 characters and I ended the game with fond memories of them, which I couldn't really say about the P3 cast. On top of that, the characters I didn't like in P4, I despised. If I didn't like a character in P3, I was just bored by them, in P4 I dreaded them ever having something to say.
P5 combined both of the good elements, characters were endearing and I grew to attached to them and they reflected the games themes very well. Even Ann, who was definitely my least favorite Phantom Thief, felt like she belonged in the game and I enjoyed her Confidant. The Confidants also helped develop characters the best in my opinion. I grew attached to the characters because I could spend time with them and have fun, unlike P3, but their Confidants weren't so integral to their development that their character in their Confidant and their character in the story felt out of sync...
...
The only hiccup in this was with any girl you romanced not acting like you were dating in the main story, with some exceptions. So it helped me get attached to the characters while still letting them have good development, though I don't think any character had development as good as Junpei did in P3. My only real complaint is that they didn't get the opportunity to just be friends and play off one another, but as I said, I'm hopeful that will be fixed in an enhanced edition.
Haru/10
>their Confidants weren't so integral to their development that their character in their Confidant and their character in the story felt out of sync
This was a pretty big problem with Sojiro. It was kinda funny to almost entirely skip his confidant and then have him totally be on your side after discovering you were a Phantom Thief.
>In 3 they actually all live together and you see them all together in the lounge every night and non-school day,
And yet they never hung out with each other, never really talked with each other, and felt more like strangers forced to work together than fire forged friends.
I like P3, but the cast dynamics were the weakest part of it.
Personally I think it wasn't edgy enough.
From a story standpoint it's undoubtedly better than previous entries, and I'm not even finished with the game
The plot is basically "what would happen if the events of Persona 3 went public and if all of Tokyo becomes crazy about it"
Almost every detail about the story is given an explanation and the working of the Metaverse is much more coherent than Dark Hour or Midnight Channel, whil still being vague enough to justify making a space station dungeon
Also the NPC dialogue in this game are golden, sometimes even more interesting than actual Confidants
Also, I forgot to mention the S.Links wiht the girls in P3 didn't help me get attached to them because it felt like they focused on such non-problems that it was blatantly obvious that they had no purpose beyond letting you fuck the girls. P5 Confidants hit the sweet spot of feeling like they deal with something important enough to the character that it's engaging while not being too important to their development like in P4.

SHIT
Seriously, Atlus are legitimately incapable of making a good cast of characters and just recycle ones in every game with a different skin. The best they have to offer out of the 3 games according to fags is Junpei, the most generic archetype you can see is praised here for "bruhh he had great character development".
People need to stop lying to themselves and just admit they enjoy their friend simulator and don't try to justify their one note characters
Junpei is probably the golden standard of party member character development in nu-Persona, but that's admittedly more because both P4 and P5 try to tie S. Links into character arcs which falls flat.
I didn't have that problem, but it occurred to me, that that might be an issue with it when I was going through the game. It lacks polish in a few areas like that. Another one is when you fight Goro on the ship, but then if you don't send the calling card he comes to arrest you even though he should be dead.
I don´t think Junpei was a great character, he just seemed really good compared to the rest of the bland cast
Wrong.
Yukari was Ann/Chie but not as boring as the first and not as dumb as the second. Fuuka was the weakest but still fit in perfectly as the prudish and level-headed one on the team. Mitsuru was the team mom, on par with Makoto, better in some ways, worse in others. Junpei is STILL the best bro in the series because he doesn't go quite as retarded as Yosuke or Ryuji. Akihiko might be the best character in the series. They also had the most natural interactions with eachother as opposed to P4's cast where they all have these exaggerated interaction like some CUH-RRRRRAZY ANIMU.
P3's cast is by far the one that feels the most like real people. P4 is completely in cartoon world and everyone is a caricature and 5 dwells someone in the middle leaning towards 4.
How did Yosuke go retard? He was literally Yu's voice and basically led the team as second in command.
Also
>Realistic
>Good
Kys
I love P3 the most and I don't get this Junpei thing. He's my least favorite party member after the kid, the deaad one and Fuuka (Doggo doesn't count)
Persona 5's cast reminded me a lot of the cast of Danganronpa 2. Especially Makoto, who acts just like Mahiru.
>P3's cast is by far the one that feels the most like real people
Is this bait? It felt like the world was like I am legend and everyone was just a mannequin set up for you entertainment.
My personal order for Persona is 3 > 4 > 5.
Persona 5 is still great and a worthy successor, but not as good as 3 or 4. If you take the 3 best games in the world, one of those 3 is still going to be inferior to the other two. It's like that.
5 has a good story but the characters overall are disappointing. Most of the characters are fine, but the more characters get added in 5 the less chemistry they seem to have.
Inferior story to 3, inferior characters to 4. Still great though.
>can't even get max rank with female in P3 unless you romance them
Yeah, nah, fuck off cunt.
5's cast feels like an actual group of friends while 4 felt like Yu fan club.
I didn't mind the Yu Fan Club because it had Rise in it
...
He was just a doofus who was always either whining or being annoying. Or both.
All I said is that P3's characters are the ones that feel the most like real people, as opposed to one/two-trait caracters like in 4.
If you don't think writing character that feel like real people is a good thing then we simply disagree and you are a tasteless pleb.
It's better than both. 5>4>3
I feel the opposite with 4 and 5. In 4 I felt obligated to hang out with people because that's what the game's about, but in 5 I actually wanted to.
I don't know, Persona 4 gives me the impression that none of the characters in the game would bother doing anything together unless the protagonist happens to be there. They certainly did more things together than the Persona 3 cast did, but I feel as if they all revolve around the protagonist too much and once he leaves Inaba they'd stop seeing each other. I only get the impression Yukiko and Chie would do anything together and that's only because they were already established friends before you get there. Why would Yosuke hang out with any of the cast that's younger than him? He spends most of the game insinuating Kanji's a fag even though he knows he doesn't like it and barely interacts with Rise and Naoto.
That describes P4 more tbqh.
Persona 3 has the best overall story in comparison to 5 and 4, but in one-on-one interactions, 5 blows the other games out of the water.
The P5 characters are a lot more like real people, and are generally pretty shitty people at that. Goro is a nice contrast when he finally becomes a bigger deal, but he doesn't get nearly enough time to shine.
When you form bonds in 5, they feel like real bonds. It's a shame their actual story and conflict is so microscopic in the grand tale of the series.
I still wanted to hang out with people in 5. I just felt like the interaction between the characters other than yours was lacking. At least compared to how it was in 3 or 4.
I didn't get any sense that they had anything to do with each other when they weren't phantom thieving.
why is Haru bullying my waifu
Story wise
3>4>5
Story is practically non existent in 4 but i find 5 particularly bad with how it tries to take itself seriously only to come off as stupid, it has its moment but it isnt enough to make me take back "man the past 6 months was really fucking moronic"
not an argument
That's an argument about mechanics, not about the writing of the characters.
Mechanics can still make or break a game and that is just one reason P5 is superior to 3 and 4. If you don't agree then you are blinded by nostalgia googles.
>Playing a game series centered around 2D escapism in fantasy land for weebs and otaku
>Complains about it not being realistic
lmao
Why can't the final boss just be a rotten human must we always have to kill a God? Goro should've been last boss
Fucking this.
Except I feel like 3's group is a lot more MC independent. Junpei connects with Akihiko, Yukari and shota. Yukari connects with Mitsuru, Fuuka and Junpei. Mistduru connects with Akihiko Yukari and Fuuka. It's very safe to assume they all hang out together because they have so many shared friends even though they might not be all very close with every member of the pack, almost like real people.
Yeah no. P5 has a better story than both, and P4 is way better than 3's.
The Dark Hour is the most retarded dumb shit I have ever seen in a video game. At least the TV had symbolism, but the Dark Hour is all around fucking dumb and makes no sense even when you figure it out why it happens.
>all electronic equipment can't be used in the dark hour
>mitsuro rides a motorcycle
>oh haha it just works cause the writers said so haha
>tfw Persona 4 is my least favorite of the modern Persona's but I still probably put in 75-100 hours playing it twice.
I just feel it goes too far with the protagonist fellatio, all 3 games do it but the amount it happens in 4 just turned me off a little.
You´re right it isn´t an argument, it´s fact. P3 cast needed more cheez whiz because they needed to add more personality.
Your own argument is a matter of personal preference that has no damning evidence towards those games.
For the style and intent of those games, and how the main character was intended in his portrayal, it fits perfectly.
If it was "You can't beat the game without cheating on every woman, in P5 you don't", you'd have a more solid point, but that's not even remotely true.
I think during Kamoshida and Madarame's palaces, Persona 5 easily had the best story.
Then the middle is kinda alright. Okamuras palace feels rushed and kaneshida isn't really built up well.
The end is in the middle. Better than the middle part of the game but not as good as the beginning.
I kinda feel like the group should have just been Joker, Ann, Ryuji, morgana, and yusuke. They felt more like a tight knit group early game but then too many people join the Theives and that takes away from developing Ann and Ryuji more.
Literally this.
I've been trying to find a way to explain it but you nailed it.
It'd mean no best character Futaba but it'd be worth it in the end.
>Phantom Thieves without my waifu Makoto
why even bother then
Game really went downhill storywise with Kaneshiro for me. Fucking phone blackmail, who wrote this crap.
Technically but it's mechanics that determine how the route is written.
Imo Yukari was way more likable when she could be talked to from the beginning of the game and the route wasn't about her hopping on your dick.
>Mechanics can still make or break a game
True, but that wan't the argument we were having.
Also, even mechanics-wise I still prefer 3. It's abviously not as polished as 5 and I like it more for it. 5 makes everything a little too convenient. That's not to say I don't think 5 is amazing. I can see how it's a better game than 3, objectively speaking.
>Anonymous will crash the economy in 21 days
>Mokoto fucked everything up and will be blackmailed in a month
>Youll be sued in a month
>Ryuji's outbursts
Dont fool yourself, this is just the first half of the game
>has a problem with the dark hour
>is perfectly okay with P5's goofy bullshit
Just admit you're in love with the aesthetic and I'll forgive you. Just don't pretend you actually care about the world consistency.
Much better than 4, not quite as good as 3.
Gameplay-wise it shits on both and fucks their mothers
You see them hanging out together all the time.
It's just that most players don't really bother talking to the other characters unless it's to initiate an S.Link. So if there's no S.Link, no one bothers checking out what they're up to.
>gif
step it up
You're right. All of them are retarded.
Haru's giving a handy to Makoto. You know how they get.
>Except I feel like 3's group is a lot more MC independent.
And yet none of them hang out with each other except maybe Yukari/Fuuka/Aegis.
They're literally strangers.
Why would you ever sit like that
>Super 1337 hacker is going to crash the stock market in 10 days xDD
While I agree that the beginning was stellar, I enjoyed how what came after really made me question the motivations of the main cast. I remember feeling really uneasy going into Okamura's palace; but not just because of the overall atmosphere of the dungeon, but I knew the characters lost sight of themselves. Their eventual fuck-up was a great turning point, and led the rest of the story in a great, better direction than P3 or P4.
but thats my job
>that wan't the argument we were having.
Listen to me carefully here, I'm a grown man and I'll insert whatever argument I want into a conversation. I don't need permission from some fucking children to do what I want. Notwithstanding, none of you haven't refuted the case about mechanics being superior to writing anyway.
How do you invite someone to the movies with you like in P4G?
I don't get a prompt to call someone when I walk up to the theater
Stop posting Nijima-san. Makoto fulfills your needs every night
That's a dumb argument. Even in fantasy made for escapism you still need some basis in reality. That's why every story ever told ever is about (or told from the perspective of) people or entities that share our concept of reality and existence.
The escapist part is that these high school kids somehow share this extraordinary ability and fate. But the characters themselves should still be somewhat realistic. In fact the more they feel like real people the more escapist the story becomes because it emphasizes that someone like you or people you know could interact with this universe. That's what defines the concept of escapism. If the people in the extraordinary world are extraordinary themselves than it's not escapism anymore, it's just fantasy and Persona can be defined as many things, but a fantasy is not one of them.
How long till Persona 6?
Think they'll crank it out for the 25th anniversary?
Outside of Yukiko and Chie none of P4's cast is friends with each other, they're just friends with you.
I think it has the same problem P5 kind of does, where as you begin adding more characters the group gets too big, you could have just had Yukiko, Chie, Teddie and Yosuke as the main cast and cut out the younger kids. I feel as if they're the most disconnected from the group, with Naoto being the best/worst example of this.
I also get the impression Yosuke wouldn't hang with anyone besides maybe Chie, but I probably only think that because I think Yosuke's an asshole.
They invite you instead
>Even in fantasy made for escapism you still need some basis in reality.
You haven't read a single hard sci-fi or high fantasy novel in your life, have you?
Leave right now, kiddo.
You should.
I feel you. The game kicked off with an awesome, suspenseful intro and a tone that wasn't reflected anywhere else in the story. The characters were pretty straight edge and anxious most of the time, which I thought was disappointing.
They literally live in the same building and hang out every night as a group.
P3 critics always leave out the part where the MC isn't actually the focus point of the game, it's S.E.E.S itself. The MC doesn't matter until a lot later in the story, when things become more severe and a hero is required. By this point, everyone knows each other, and the group radically changes its goals.
The Answer honestly fucked up what P3 built.
P4 is the one where the MC is the center of the universe, and everyone else's mouths are designed for his dick.
>Niijima-san
Not sure what you're getting at but I'm posting from my crappy laptop in a coffee shop attic. I keep getting pop-ups from Tanaka asking me if I wanna buy some black market shit
