Grand Theft Auto V is a perfect game. I can't explain it, but it's just such an experience, from the characters, to the setting, to the mini-games, it's just all so perfect.

It's good? Yes. Perfect? No.

This op, it's really damn good but anytime you use a word like perfect all someone has to do is find one flaw to invalidate your point

Not even the best game in its own franchise.

home

i actually haven't played San Andreas on anything but the iPhone. Is it a good experience on the pc or ps2?

Yes.

Spent many hours in GTAO just cruising around.
>tfw the game was glitchy as fuck with modded lobbies giving out billion dollar bounties

hardly. the loading times fucking destroy online

>2011+6
>he still doesnt have an SSD

please catch up

Should i just pirate it or put down the 15 bucks?

This sounds like something someone who's only played 10 games in his life would say

Loading in GTA V has nothing to do with SSDs. Even with an SSD it takes several minutes to load a game because the bottleneck is on the server end. Rockstar's matchmaking is total shit.

Pirate, also look up frame limiters because game's physics fuck up even on 60fps. You might need to play on 40 fps

This game felt so soulless compared to previous games

The story was absolute dogshit and there were no likable characters except for Lamar and Michael. Why would I give a shit about Michael's family leaving him if they're all incredible assholes?

The characters in V were terrible. Everyone is so loud and obnoxious that it made me appreciate IV's cast more. At least Roman, Little Jacob, Packie, Brucie, and Dwayne were bro tier and caring of Niko's well being.

That's because everything was open from the start and no attempt to build the world around Los Santos. The only interesting part of the game was the heist in Ludendorf in the beginning.

Exactly. Even though the GTA storylines were always filled with sociopathic characters, a lot of the relationships displayed in these games were genuine, whether family bonds or friendships. In GTA V, everyone hates each other and you expect most characters to stab you in the back.

That's because one of the main characters in V is the betrayer. In another GTA game, Micheal would've been the antagonist for betraying his crew for selfish motives, but in V he spends most of the game trying to rationalize a poor judgment call.

The game has a built-in frame limiter, but it's shit and runs at 25FPS; downgrade the game to 1.0 and download SilentPatch for a consistent 30.

The stadium felt so far away when you played this on the ps2

>I can't explain it

I can. You're a spastic normie with poor standards.

I didn't played GTA V because of the awful characters though
I'm legitimately curious. how anyone like those characters?

Trevor is likeable and entertaining when he's in Blaine County. In Los Santos he becomes a meme characters

I don't know their names. I don't understand what you mean.

I have a gay friend in the job who bought this at day one. I've asked him, why exactly you like the characters?
He said they don't matter because the game is popular.
so this is the best answer

>didn't play the game
>claims the characters are awful

How would you know?

I mean that from a gameplay perspective, Trevor is the best character. All of his missions in Blaine County are fun. The biggest high point is destroying a meth lab with by setting it on fire. From a story telling perspective he's terrible because he comes off as a backwoods retard when interacting with other people, especially in Los Santos

They're not cute girls

>Still no proper Asian culture themed GTA.

NO THAT PILE OF SHIT ON THE DS DOESN'T COUNT. THE ONLY GOOD THING IN THE WHOLE FUCKIN GAME WAS THE DRUG DEALING, AND EVEN THEN YOU HAD TO DEAL WITH THE SHIT DRIVING TO GET IT DONE RIGHT.

NOT TO MENTION THE CHINESE ARE SHIT

Didn't Sleeping Dogs take that role?

It's a fine game, but there isn't anything that really wowed me when playing. Other GTA games have had lower lows than V, but the highs far exceed anything that occurred throughout V's story.

What are some good Chinese Triad, or Yakuza themed movies that GTA can draw inspiration from?

SLEEPING DOGS WAS BUG-RIDDLED TRASH

ALSO FUCK THE CHINESE

>Within 3 months the only focus from Rockstar was turning it into a shitty MMO where everything was so overpriced that you have to grind for days or buy a microtransaction

Vehicle physics could've been better.
-Over the top general arcadey-ness felt like a knee jerk reaction to IV's criticism. They went overkill instead of simply tightening up the physics to fit the larger map. It should've been a cross between what it is now and IV.
-Helicopter sway is dumb.
-Planes taking off in 10ft is dumb.
A lot of stuff was cut, and it shows.
The map north of Los Santos is pretty shit.
-Those hills aren't interesting, or fun to traverse.
-Should've had a city up north.
Having the whole map unlocked was a mistake.
Multiple characters was a mistake.
The characters were just pretty bad all around.
-Franklin is one of the worst written/boring characters, they should've just dropped the third protag when Lamar's VA became unavailable to do it.
-Trevor was just obnoxious most of the time. And fuck switching to him
-Michael was alright, aside from all the yelling and whining from him and his family.
And R* are being cunts towards modders because of GTAO.

They really should of made Lamar the third protag instead of Franklin

Franklin was fucking boring

GTAO is a fucking joke. The modding and hacking runs rampant. I logged in the other day trying to do CEO work only to have some script kiddie start auto leveling everyone up 100 lvls at a time. Went from Lvl 60 to 471.

And rockstar is doing nothing to stop it either

That's because you had to drive a long way around it to find the entrance that's on the other side

This. Forever and always.

I hate how GTA5 holds your hand. In 3/VC/SA if you wanted to use a rocket launcher throughout the whole game or bypass certain parts with some ingenuity you can.

in GTA5 the story mode is so step by step and formalistic. You cannot veer off and do your own thing at all

>those hills aren't interesting
Have to disagree, Vinewood Hills and the areas north of it up to around the observatory and the dam had a lot of very good driving roads and nice scenery along the way, and hitting apexes and maintaining racing lines along those roads in high-end cars was always a lot of fun. You could create practically a mini-Nurburgring Nordschleife if you wanted, like pic related

Forgot to mark off the start point; it's slightly to the left of where the gang vehicle is, on the bottom of the reverse "S."

>makes you play as a nog
>no italians except possibly mike

Not perfect.

Got a $250,000,000+ injection from a randomer 3 weeks after console release. They glitched some mission with 'Duck' in the title... kind of sucked some of the fun out of earning everything but hey, I was on the grinding stage between a 4 space house and a pent-house 10 space garage anyways...

I agree OP, its exceptional. Rockstar are the redeemers, perfectionist with what they release.

Compare them to Bethesda or Bioware. R* beat them in story w/ RPG elements.

Any sandbox dev- pft, R* made the genre.

Arcade drivers + shooters- GTA5 is top notch.

My only hope is after RDR2, they go full sci fi. Imagine the depth? The art design? THE SOUNDTRACK?

10 years from now, when VR fuctionality is the benchmark, R* will be fucking gods...

Also, to the map's credit, R* went properly, properly anal with the attention to detail in the areas they wanted to recreate in the game; there are over 1,000 landmarks in the game that have real life analogues, including things as insignificant as bathrooms.

What? Fuck you haung was awesome.

I wish they did some more single player DLC that didn't involve Trevor, but some of the online stuff is legitimately great. Stunt races are a ton of arcradey fun.

I can't even start up the game without getting a star.

The characters are so poorly written. It brings the whole thing down. Also GTA missions have always had scripting but in V they really went for the "interactive movie mission you'll never play these mechanics outside of" feel

To their detriment, I'd say. They've been wasting their time recreating tons of shit instead of focusing on level design and what's fun.
With the '3D' era it felt like they created a world based off mission and gameplay ideas. In the 'HD' era it feels like they're creating the world first and then trying to fit the missions into it.

I like trevor because his dialogue is well written and how the VA delivers his lines. plus it reminds me of the early 2D/3D era with it's so called arcady action movie vibe. It doesn't take itself to serious but it gets to the point.

>level design
I'd say the fact that they recreated so many places in California to such a high degree of fidelity is a factor that can be used to support the case of good level design in GTA 5, since recreating real life settings, as you said, is clearly the purpose of their work, they went to painstaking lengths to achieve that purpose, and based on the map I linked, they succeeded. I think a condition of good level design is how well their product adheres to their intended purpose, whatever it may be, and that the condition was satisfied here.
>what's fun
I had a lot of fun with the map, all of it. I drew out a course that I loved to drive along and test cars in in the Vinewood Hills, and I loved exploring the observatory, the dam, the sea, the prison, the alien mountain, the hipster camps, the redneck trailer parks, the mountains and the rally stages around them, the cultist camp, going to the Los Santos Customs near Sandy Shores for free mods and testing the cars on the way back to LS, and maxing out cars and landing planes along the highways to Paleto Bay.

you Vfags disgust me
youtube.com/watch?v=GWVtZJo-HqI

I don't get the immense hate. When the details started to leak like the biking photo, I remember so many people being excited about simply biking.

Then it comes out and fuck, the list of shit to do is immense. Everything from hunting to scubadiving and a metric fuckton of side missions and events to all the areas begging to be explored, like those abandoned mines (to this day I'm still scared of being in there with headphones). And then when I found out about the mt chilliad hunt? Hooh, boy. The game then really took a life of its own. That's when I really started taking in every detail. I would even roleplay and obey the traffic, talking to npcs, and actually calling the contacts and such.

I agree that mikes family shouldn't have been cunty, but I liked Frank and lamar. I thought they were able to give off a good representation of one side of modern crip life in the 2010s.

Trevor had some good lines and funny moments but his prominent role really turned me off. Especially his faggot friends. Tbh I don't play for story though

Is it not wrong to think that both are flawed, yet ultimately still pretty good, games? I think the reason why Sup Forums specifically shits on the flaws of IV and V all the time, while ignoring the flaws of the older games, is that no one ever creates threads and makes posts about IV and V without saying "IV/V is better than the game you probably cherished in your childhood (VC/SA)" or "The game you probably cherished in your childhood (VC/SA) is shit" and that's it. VC/SAfags don't have to do this. It doesn't even seem necessary, sure, Sup Forums adores VC and SA, but that shouldn't mean fans of IV and V should have to bait people who love those games in order to discuss their flaws or the positives of IV and V. But I guess that's inevitable on a board that thrives on consolewars and falseflagging.

Shut the fuck up fag SD was great

the map is bland and empty. its obvious they were planning an expansion or something before they got a taste of shark card money.

>SSD affects online

Spotted the retard. The online has terrible load times due to Rockstars shit servers. This wouldn't be so bad if there was only one initial load, but you have to load after every single activity.

GTA online stinks.

GTA scifi or cyberpunk is a huge turnoff for me, not that I don't like those settings, but to me GTA is a period piece about gangsters and gangbangers.

Why was Trevor so gay for michael though

I would like a "Red Dead Revenge" set in Bushido Japan, though. Or even one set in more modern Texas, like in the '70s or something, and include horses. That's kinda borderline GTA, though.

If anything Mike is Scotch-Irish, with his original last name being Townley.

He's an autistic psychopath with no friends. Michael was probably one of the only people he ever liked or respected.

A "No Country for Old Men" style game from Rockstar would be amazing.

No, it wasn't, it was a cheap GTA clone that nobody remembers aside from a bunch of contrarians in Sup Forums
