Why would the devs of a kids game make it so ridiculously bullshit hard?

Dark Souls has nothing on this.

>Playing twin headed thunder dragon simulator
Takes me back.

This game right here was my childhood, no comfier game for the ps1.

Comfy?
It's one of the most difficult games of all time

Everything was fine until the duel against Pegasus, then everything goes to fucking shit and you're left with true anger because you were enjoying the game until that point

The ancient Egypt parts and the music were pretty comfy. The game might be bullshit but it has great atmosphere.

I could never beat this shit. I remember getting to the present time and then maybe beat 1 or 2 people after that.

Continue dueling Meadow Mage until you get three Meteor B. Dragons

They needed to build up what it felt like to be sent to the shadow realm.

rented this game from blockbuster one friday night. Regretted it and never had a more frustrating weekend

this game had some memorable music

youtube.com/watch?v=zRtDEQ2N9Nw

youtube.com/watch?v=h_54ORBj_Z8

youtube.com/watch?v=wyxbHbNA2Wk

I beat all the mages and the guards over a hundred times each and I could only get 2 Meteor B. Dragon cards.

I literally found this game on the street when I was a kid. Didn't have a memory card(didn't know what they were) so every play through was a gauntlet until I meet that gray asshole that did nothing but laid down Meteor Bitch Dragons.

And what was up with that card password system? I read you would get cards if you put in the correct passwords, so I did but it never worked.

>tfw you finally win that first duel only for the dude to turn it around and duel you again

I remember being maybe 6 or 7 and so excited, only to get the shit slapped out of me so hard by the second or third duel 800000 times and never getting a single card I wanted

>nigger defeats you
>game goes on
>new game +
>defeat nigger
>you are supposed to lose
okay

Shit nigga don't make me download ePSXe

>final stage is like 6 duels in a row with insane RNG without saving

You needed like 999,999 star chips to any good card in that game. You get like 5 star chips after winning a battle. I don't know what the fuck the developers were thinking.

>grinding the shit out of this game
>ancient egypt was hard as fuck
>suddenly you have to win more than 4 times in a row
I stopeped playing right were the twin fuckers fought you inside the pyramid, how far was I from finishing the game?

That's almost the end. The game doesn't even allow you to save after that. You have to do like 8 really hard duels in a row without saving.

Four more duels and you finished it. But these four duels are the most rage inducing ones.

Does anyone have the webm where the opponent draws a Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon on the first try and the game ends in 2 turns?

Duelist of the roses is better

Fucking konami, I wonder how many kids this game gave strokes

youtube.com/watch?v=cp4fxe75810

Did your life points at least reset in between duels?

I fucking hate this game
it's pretty good

I think there was a machine in Japan that was related to this game or something but when they localized it for the rest of the world they bumped up the star cost to max so you couldn't cheese the game.

I might be remembering wrong though.

For fucking real? Jesus christ that's insane and makes it virtually worthless.
Well no wonder I couldn't get anything at all. Didn't have a memory card so no star chips...
but I am just founding everyone had to deal with that in the end on some level.

I heard the game was more easy in the jp version because of the pocketstation

>and never come back

lol

Was Magician of Black Chaos even in it?

What

>Multiplayer

Was I just a dumb kid or was almost every GBC and GBA card game fucking brutal?

I remember Pokemon tgc and yu-gi-oh kicking my shit in more than almost any other games during that time. I was a nerd who played the real card games too so it wasn't like I went in blind.

Yeah. Each duel is new. But your opponents can draw Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon right away.

Yes
But you can only get with the ritual

Try only one time
Never again

I got my MBDs off of Jono 2

The games are almost impossible to beat without cheating.

The pokemon tcg was fine, no idea about the Yugioh ones though.

>mfw using a mountain card to power up my twin headed thunder dragon
>mfw I overpower my enemy's Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon and destroys me in his first turn

>play twin headed thunder dragon
>opponent plays twin headed thunder dragon and suicide kills your twin headed thunder dragon
>mrw
Fuck you kiba

I love the weird combinations of monster cards in this game

>Complaining about rng
>in a card game

Never played this particular installment but unless the game blatantly abuses the rng system to win then you have no leg to stand on

Even if it did we call that "artificial difficulty"

Mfw writing this post

Wasnt it confirmed that the AI literally cheats against you?

I think it is. Somebody post the gif of the card changing before it gets played.

>the game blatantly abuses the rng system to win
it does

Card game simulators are made to be bullshit because of the number of variables the AI can control.

At any given time the AI can decide:

>next card in your deck
>what the cards are that the opponent has face down on the field
>what the cards are in the opponent's hand
>what card the opponent draws (which is ultimately meaningless since the opponent's hand is just any pool of cards the opponent needs in any situation)
>dicerolls
>coin flips
>rock paper scissors (AI can register what you picked and pick what beats that thing on the next frame and it's essentially invisible to the human brain)

thanks for chiming in on something you never touched, faggot. The world is better without people like yourself.

>tfw i was so stupid I couldn't get past the first match

>enter you card's special code to get them in game
>every card of any remote usefulness requires 9999 stars
absolute bullshit

This game was a nightmare, I never got past what I think was the Kaiba duel, whichever one was the 2nd or third duel after egypt.

You couldn't even grind, because I could only beat the first few people reliably, and they didn't give any better cards for me to use. Fuck this cheating ass game

>enter you card's special code to get them in game

Always annoyed me because you could only use it to get one copy of the card in games that did this.

Also annoyed me because I had Eternal Duelist Soul and it only went up to Magic Ruler.

I don't play card games.

I love the egyptian theme

Speaking of early Yu-Gi-Oh games, I like how in Dark Duel Stories you can create some badass 4 stars with the monster creator.

Is this game easier using an emulator and save states? Can you almost beat a guy, make a state, make your last move, and then reload the state until you get a card you want?

I really want to beat this game, but putting 100 hours into Free Duel and fighting the Meadow Bitch over and over and over isn't skill related at all, and getting those cards is fucking required to beat the game. I liked this game but that difficulty curve and required grinding make me want to let sleeping dogs lie.

I wish I could even get to that point, I've never even come close to beating Meadow Mage once, let alone grind him.

I recommend you at least do your research before talking out of your ass. But I will commend you for being honest.

I don't know about the Pokemon game, but for Yu-Gi-Oh! I only really know about three, I know that World Championship is fine cause it plays exactly like the real game, The Sacred Cards doesn't play the like real game, but is still fine with its new mechanics, and Reshef of Destruction is a steaming pile of bullshit, that uses TSC's mechanics but adds in assloads of required grinding and your LP aren't restored after each battle, maybe you might have had that one?

It doesn't just abuse RNG, it outright cheats. The AI will can turn any card in its hand to a more powerful card in its deck whenever it wants to.

AIs are also super stupid and probably coded to only follow very specific patterns. Obviously this game was balanced way too hard against the player but often it's necesarry due to the limitations of AI to give the computer advantages

The great thing about the game was the fusion system. Although it had a lot of bullshit combinations and some combinations that should have been but weren't, the idea is mad fun. The few first times you play it is a journey to discover nice fusions and etc. I also think that the star guardian system is a nice touch that brings a layer of strategic depth to the extremely simple ruleset of the game. If these two elements were better fleshed out, alongside a better game balance in the form of fair enemies and card drops, this yugioh would be stellar. It almost makes me want to create an extended, reworked version of this game's system.

*blocks your path and slaps your girl's ass*

>enter in cheat to see opponent's hand
>see opponent choose a Monster Reborn
>opponent plays it in monster zone
>suddenly its Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon
The game literally fucking cheats.

Don't have the gif/webm, but here's a YouTube video.
youtube.com/watch?v=Vo3hNgUAjPM

>blue eyes ultimate dragon on turn 3
>no special summons or sacrifices no nothing

Oh, now I remember why this game fucked up so many people.

This breaks the childhood

I put on a gameshark to have all the cards and did that shit a lot
>put ultimate blue eyes whit dragon face down in attack mode
>oponent attacks and hit himself for 4k damage
>attack the other 4k damage in my second turn

Why were almost all Yu-gi-oh games piece of trash with dumb rules ? I mean, The Scared Cards was easy as fuck, then we got this shit were you had to recharge your life points (and if I remember well, the last boss had something like 40000 LP)

>using cheats to beat an ai

GIT GUD

Duelist of the Roses was so fucking dank as a kid

>Not running a pumpking stall deck

Not only does the last boss have 40000 LP, but you have to fight a boss with 20000 LP right before it with no heals in between.

There was one good Yu-Gi-Oh game for GBA that followed the whole second season of the show where you actually walked around and talked to the characters. The game actually played like the card game too. Definitely a favorite after this shit and falsebound/roses.

You mean The Sacred Cards? It doesn't play like the real game, many effect monsters have no effects or changed ones, and theres a type system that make certain types beat others no matter the ATK/DEF difference.

That's why grinding on the Meadow guy was required, there's no barriers to summoning the strongest cards in the game so if you don't happen to have a stronger card there's just absolutely nothing you can do. What's worst is that cheating is a thing, which is new to me, which means that the game not only is reliant on RNG but also makes it so every duel is hard artificially.

This game is fun the first few hours but holy shit, why would you play past Egypt? You just grind for Meteor Dragon or Blue Eyes and then hope you can draw it and win before they take you out.

I think I may have played Eternal Duelist Soul, did all the GBA games follow similar rules?

Anyone tried Duel Links?

It's pretty cool, and the voice acting is spot on.

>tfw you can attack your opponent's life points directly, have Dan Green say it, and have you opponent scream as he is defeated

Nope. There were officials ruleset games and non official games like Dungeon Dice, Sacred Card or Reshef.

Well the rules for that are the regular rules, but you don't walk around at all, you just pick who to duel and duel them.

Fuck this game. Fuck this stupid pointless fucking game.

That element system was retarded, mostly because you could easily rig it against certain duelists who only use certain types of cards but also because it would just cause so many bullshit moments both good and bad.

Then there's the gameplay, which is shit. There's no way to get enough cards to do unique strategies, and they even limit how many useful cards you can have with that horrible CP system. Even with all that, the game is easy as fuck. Once you get a good amount of four star monsters with above 1600 attack points you fucking win. Every time. It's short as fuck too, it took me like three hours I think. I walked away with fucking nothing from this game, the card system is easily the worst of all the games and there's no strategy to it all. Add a nonexistant soundtrack, horrible graphics, and a water down version of a watered down version of the plot and there's just no reason to give a shit about anything this game has to offer.

3/10

It is statistically faster to farm for equipment/widespread ruin than it is farming for MBD. Your goal is to have a minimum chance of beating the last four even if they have BEUD on the field, and this is accomplished faster by THTD + equips + field, because all your deck is THTD and you should start with one equipment and field card. You can buy other equipment with starchips (around 200for the cheapest if I'm not mistaken) and dropping another one should come naturally if you are farming widespread ruin.

I liked the type system, it made you build your deck with more focus on variety rather than whatever has the highest ATK, and the CP reinforced that system.
If you really hate TSC that much you should never even dare to touch Reshef of Destruction, it has the same system but, you start with half as much CP, gain only 1-3 CP per battle instead of 5-30, and to top it all off you have to run back to your house to restore your LP because they don't recharge after duels anymore.

Hi, I don't come to Sup Forums but this popped up on the frontpage and I just came here to tell you that I have finished this game.
Fuck you.

...

>friendship ended with Tristan

fuck forbidden memories

Roses mean gayness in Nippon.

Yu-Gi-Oh has been around long enough to be a PS1 game? I thought it was ps2 era.

not really, you just farm meadow mage until you get all the cards you will ever need. The ending is impossible though, pure luck based. I managed to beat it on emulator, farming in 4 times speed also helps.

comfy game

Manga's existed since '96. Card game's been around since '99.

don't forget to s tech peg, with megamorph or bright castles the game is impossible.
Shit made me so mad as kid and even more so now

You'd be surprised how many anime/manga series were around long enough to be in that era, even One Piece and Naruto had PS1 games.

Had to check if there was actually a Naruto one. It's not really a Naruto game, it's some shitty strategy game that I'm sure just used re modified code from something else and had Naruto assets slapped on. It looks awful.

Really? I don't think it looks that bad.
