What is the best SMT game (including Persona) and why is it unanimously Nocturne?
What is the best SMT game (including Persona) and why is it unanimously Nocturne?
I haven't gotten around to Noturne yet but my personal favorite is Strange Journey.
Nocturne > SJ > 4 >>>> 4A > 2 > 1
>4>4A
Um, Persona 5 came out, you know
>Nocturne
>Best SMT game
devil survivor 2
its a megami game but not a shin megami tensei game
it's still not the best.
Read more carefully
That's where you're wrong, friendo
No that's where I'm right.
Expect for the part where you're wrong
DDS has better dungeon design and music but nocturne has better everything else
Except I'm right, so therefore, I cannot be wrong.
Well, can't argue with that.
I love how 4A gets so much shit because of the bonds path. It's not like the chaos edgelords couldn't side with lucifer anymore or anything.
They all have their pros and cons, my favorites are Megami Tensei II and Nocturne. Best persona is the PSP version of the first one but not many would agree with that.
Persona 2 was lit though
So I've only played Persona, and I tried playing SMT4 and really didnt like it. The characters and plot were really uninteresting. Is 4 just worse than the others, or is SMT just not for me?
>playing nocturne
>get to Matador
>get fucking rekt
>oh its a scripted loss
>game over, main menu
Havent played since
There's no way it's Nocturne. The characters and plot are shit, the pacing isn't good, negotiation is the worst of the series (both in RNG and overall entertaining options), lack of meaningful treasure or reward for exploring most of the time (mainly because no equipment), etc.
This just pulls pretty much everything off better.
Though personally I like Soul Hackers most because it's way more fast paced. It's not a 100 hour slog, they keep it to 30 or so instead. Plus everything about it is solid to great.
P1 has better dungeons and combat by a large measure, so I like it more. P2 will always have a place in my heart though.
I've only played Persona 3, 4, and 5 before. Which mainline game should I start with?
This
Use debuffs dude.
I'm currently playing Soul Hackers right now.
Meanwhile the ending everyone's gonna choose in Nocturne is personally sucking Lucifer off with no law or neutral alternative.
SMT IV ist my favorite SMT I just cant decide.
SMT on SNES.
What is the best Character from any SMT game (including Persona) and why is it RAIDOU KUZUNOHA?
This is horrible advice
Which Chaos demon is that?
Lucifer is the most compelling character in the franchise
I want to say it's Ashera, but I'm not sure.
>Mainline
Nocturne or IV
Once you beat it, be sure to do the Post-Game Dungeons and EX Dungeons. Probably the best post-game to any Megaten game around, and it doesn't even require a full second playthrough to get, just dozens of extra dungeons and unique boss fights.
Either Nocturne or 4. Or just don't go mainline first and try Digital Devil Saga for PS2, since that really bridges the gap between Persona and mainline SMT well (big focus on characters like Persona, but themes and atmosphere more like SMT).
Best mainline: SMT II
Best persona: Persona 1
Best spinoff: Majin Tensei (translation never ever)
I'll never get nocturne kiddies, the only good game with the press turn system is Apocolypse, in Nocturne itself it just makes the game a moronic slog.
>piss>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>4=4A
I grinded 5 levels for Matador and didnt save. A fucking demon killed demifiend with hamaon... game over.
I quit apocalypse too cause i played for 4 hours without saving and at the place wher those two divine powers (Ganesha and someone else) I accepted their offer and got game over.
Its Ashere
>Ashere and Mestema not in P5
REEEEEEEEEEEEE
>no SMT IV:A
>no P5
Shit need to get updated asap
Are you just retarded or what? Serious question.
>easiest game besides IV
>literally the beginning (unless you count the Famicom Megami Tenseis, which are great games but bad for newfags)
>introduces the SMT feel better than nocturne, which is pretty nonstandard
>very all-around solid as a game, isn't a clusterfuck like IV
There's no reason not to play it first.
That chaos demon reminds me of pic related
Nah, it's Devil Survivor. Fuck, it even has a halfway decent Law route.
I save before every event, even if it's minor.
YHVH and Law in general is way more compelling, mainly because they actually go about reaching their goals in different ways and have an endgame to reach. Archangels will do one plan, Gabriel will have a different idea than the rest, YHVH has an entirely different one, Satan has a different one, and that's all just in one game with different flavors of Law.
For all the talk of freedom, chaos has a strange tendency to organize directly under Lucifer with absolutely no in-fighting, no real methods to accomplish shit, and only end up with randomly murdering humans and setting shit on fire.
>negotiation is the worst of the series
negotiation skills
>lack of meaningful treasure or reward for exploring most of the time (mainly because no equipment)
rare items that you'll need to make your life way easier/save yourself from a random battle gone bad isn't worth it? or failing that, to sell so you can get more magatama?
He's my favorite character besides Heat, and Nemissa.
DeSu
Maybe it's because i'm not so much into SRPGs, but that game is fucking terrible. Characters too. It's the only MT game I actually dropped thus far, and i've even went on to play shit like Last Bible.
They said they would give me power. I didnt expect a game over from a dialogue box.
Does P5 have any megamilk demons? Ann's doesn't really count.
>Is 4 just worse than the others
With the exception of music, it is.
Despite the great setting, SMT IV loses the atmosphere that makes the series special.
Nocturne has a simple plot but really fufills the setting, provides character to all the demons, and has consistantly solid combat the whole way through.
>they would give me power.
You deserve the game over.
You just reminded me that i need to get unstuck on SMT2
I need one more pillar and i can get to the abyss
Cybele? Not too big but meh
If they want to add in a new character so bad in SJ Deep why couldn't they add Doomguy instead?
>DeSu is terrible
Jesus christ user, where did the game touch you? Was it Wendigo? Your character complaint is valid enough, but the gameplay is the tightest I've played on the 3DS.
What? Nocturne's plot does fuck-all to fulfill the setting, especially if you're acting like SMTIV "loses the atmosphere that makes the series special"
That just flat out sounds like you only started with Nocturne and think that's what the series is. It's not.
Kaneko's even said in interviews before that the basis of the series is humans finding their place in a world already ruled by gods and demons, and Nocturne practically has no humans. I don't get where you're getting that it provides character to the demons either.
Question came to my mind today & so I ask...
I SMT or Persona had a crossover with another franchise, which franchise would you like to see?
I picked Skullgirls
Also, will we see our beloved uncle Dante ever again?
That's not SMT IV: Apocalypse Now
>This triggers the Lawfags
No but Donte will
Dropped the game at Baldur. Like I said, it's probably because SRPGs do nothing for me. I find them extrememly tedious to play. I'd rather just have an actual RPG than a bunch of tile maps.
>Implying Persona games are SMT
Yakuza.
Imagine Persona with the details of the Yakuza series for all those famous Tokyo spots, and actual game mechanics instead of just "select go to work/play game/etc, advance one text box, fade to black, and you're done with it"
Yakuza Ishin's weapon/gunsmithing, fighting styles, and setting just scream Raidou too.
If* I fucked up. I need sleep soon.
Having actual grinding in an SRPG ruins the game, and DeSu is full of it. Majin Tensei did the SRPG aspect better, having demons as your army makes the game a lot more fun than the pseudo RPG aspects of DeSu
>That's not SMT IV: Apocalypse Now
Why would it be?
...
because pixie
Majin tensei sounds so fucking cool. P2EP is almsot done and might get a release this year how much longer for majin tensie ?
The gameplay is great but its torn between being Persona 4 and SMT IV and does both horribly. P5 is a better SMT game then SMTIV:A
>mainly because they actually go about reaching their goals in different ways
Not really.
It goes
YHVH's plan - fuck you, you're going to listen to me eventually
Archangel's plan - we're going to make you listen to us or you're fucking dead
Mastema's plan (at least in IV/IVA) - they'll listen eventually, just chill the fuck out, they can't listen if they're dead
Mastema is unironically the most chill angel of the top brass because he believes in humanity's will to choose. Even if they should go against YHVH he believes that that's just another way of coming to understand Him and that one day they might change their minds.
It's Apocalypse bitch fight me
Maybe that's why Nocturne is the most popular mainline.
I don't know of any of the human characters that are better characterized than the Demons in the Nocturne.
The environments they reside in speak about them, the shops, the NPC demons, all are more interesting that practically all the characters in the SMT IV, hell they're more interesting that the humans in Nocturne itself.
Apocalypse is better than IV, but that's once again because of the demon characters, rather the bland human cast.
>A game about demons and life in a demon infested world in which you kill your friends becuase they wanted to go to BK and not mcdonalds
>A game in which your friends die and thats and and war and sometimes monsters
Fuse them and you get
Fucking idols why. Did it bomb?
I seriously want to call you out on your shit taste, but if you just flat out hate SRPGs then there's really nothing to say.
I don't recall DeSu being terribly full of grinding, maybe just for skill unlocks and your first go at Day 7, but otherwise it's pretty doable if you're smart with fusion, just like mainline. Then again it's been years since I've played it, so I might have smoothed out the rough patches in my mind.
nintendo ruins everything it touches
>What is the best SMT game (including Persona)
>SMT game
>Persona
What he mean by this?
>I seriously want to call you out on your shit taste
Shit taste cause I don't like an incredibly slow-ass genre
Shit's boring my dude. I did manage to beat the GBA Fire Emblems though. Can't say they're my GOATs or anything though.
Persona series + smt 4 and 4a = completed
should i start with strange journey or nocturne?
DeSu is doable w/o grinding and its a great spinoff
DeSu 2 writting ist as good and is more eva/ living in a nice shelter then surviving like the first which I prefered more. having slinks didt feel to out of place
>Being so bad at a game that you think a challenging boss is a scripted loss
Oh am i laffing. Use buffs retard, fuse Uzume, etc.
I still need to beat SJ but Mem Aleph is complete bullshit.
>Shit taste cause I don't like an incredibly slow-ass genre
Yet you're fine with regular turn based RPGs?
Shit, #FE is a better SMT game than 4A.
MA
A
Best atmosphere, story, and music.
I remember going into Persona 3 expecting Nocturne quality. I was severely let down. It's too bad the series devolved to pander to a wider audience. But, that's business.
I can probably count the turn-based RPGs that I actually like, that aren't SMT on a hand.
Nocturne starts of really shitty until you complete Yoyogi Park 1. It's the only thing that kept me from playing the game to completion for many years. Thank goodness my friend had a save just before matador and I played it from there.
If you love dungeons SJ will spoil you so much that you should go with Nocturne first.
I wish they make a megaten game with combat from SMT4A and graphics and gameplay from Persona 5.
SMT4A has the best combat system. Persona 3-5 is more fun to play with the social aspect. Persona 5 looks beautiful compare to any SMT game.
I mean, if you're boiling it down to that, that's still more than Lucifer's grand scheme to sit on his ass while demons kill humans and set fire to cars for all eternity.
SMT4 Law alone has a crazy amount going on. You get to see in Infernal Tokyo what happens if the angels do absolutely nothing, the world becomes hell on earth so it can justify anything they do to avoid that. That's pretty interesting.
Then Mastema (Law) acts against the Archangels (Law) so hard that he kidnaps and binds them. In-fighting just to achieve what they think YHVH wants by different means, interesting.
Gabriel's left alone and allows humans in Mikado to proceed under Akira's guidance unlike how the other Archangels would've wanted to simply purge him and any he passed demon knowledge onto. You see it end up with a repressive society with a caste system unlike anything they wanted, all because they let a single guy who had 100% pure intentions in that had demon knowledge. Shows Gabby fucked up, and reinforces needing a clean slate for humanity.
What where they thinking man? "This epic ist sweet" my fucking ass. Could have been cool man. I prefer
Hopefully that is what SMT x Switch is. Either SMT mainline or an equal spin off.
I don't know, but I do know this: PERSONA 5 FAGS HAVE BEEN UNEQUIVOCALLY BTFO'D
literally who is this shitter
Somebody who destroyed Persona 5 in less than 1000 characters
no, really, who
The guy who annihilated Persona 5 in less than ten tweets
