So I decided to upgrade the Dark Souls 1 Uchigatana to +5. Was completely useless against Ornstein and Smough.
Should I upgrade it to lightning or something? Is it viable?
What weapon should I use if not?

Crystal Katana.
Shameless bump heres some tits
By now you should have +10 weapons.
>+5
You should have a +10 weapon at this point in the game.
Upgrade it to +10 you fucking idiot. Katanas work great with O&S.
Soul level and platform? I can help you against them.
Those are great, but is there a way to repair crystal weapons?
Should be +10 by now desu. +5 isn't much.
And they're both resistant to lightning in their second forms. Kill smough first if you want to get to NG+ so you get ornstein armour and can get smoughs shit the second time
Good idea, cheers guys. Should I just +10 it or add lightning or some bullshit to it?
there's a Large Ember in a chest in The Depths that will allow you to further upgrade to +10 when given to Andre.
let me tell you about why the game you are playing is shit and this guy name mathew maitosis is a fuckin' tosser
Just beat them today, but I had to use the crystal halberd which I hate cause it cant be repaired
Im on ps3 if youre down for it :D
They are weak to fire, so go that way if you want elemental.
I hope you stil have REEEEElag's soul so you could later make a Chaos Blade
>Should I upgrade it to lightning or something?
Only upgrade to an elemental weapon if your Dex/Str is at the exact level to wield the weapon, otherwise it's a waste.
Please do tell
Elemental infusion removes stat scaling. Mite b good for low level twinks, but if you plan to keep leveling up and putting points into Dex, you better off just sticking with the default upgrade path all the way to +15.
Also Ornstein is resistant to lightning.
It's a bleeding weapon, doesn't do shit to Ornstein.
what's the best small shield for sorcerers?
I'm thinking of a sorcerer build
I have 23 dex, think I'll just make it a +10
I have pyromancies anyways so I suppose elementals aren't that necessary
Thanks guys! It's great to have Sup Forums actually be helpful
You're welcome.
Nothing strokes my ego as much as explaining trivial things to a retard.
pretty sad tbqh
Sorry, PC.
Your damage output almost doesn't matter, unless you put it all in STR and use a big weapon or something you won't do a lot of damage per swing
It's supposed to be an endurance race, just lock on to Ornstein and keep Smough in your sight by moving around, then attack whoever you wanna kill when they're both at the end of their attacks
I tried, but the katana only did like 42 damage with each strike, took me ages to kill one of them.
With the crystal halberd I got around 150 damage with each hit, it was ridiculous how easy the battle became with it.
My bad then, I haven't read the thread too closely and I did the Depths properly on my first game so I knew about upgrading weapons further
Actually, I think I was using a lightning halberd, even. With some fireballs thrown in
Every time I start a Souls game I can never decide which weapon to use.
I switched from the Pike +10 to Demon's spear +4 but I'm thinking about the silver knight spear. Would it be stronger? Have 25 str/dex and no faith
>play any soul game for the first time
>do a mix of strength and dex build because you don't know which weapon you gonna bang with
it hurts
Spears and daggers are probably the two weapons I never used. Even dabbled in lance in 2, cosplaying as the tower knight.
>I'm gonna do a STR build because big weapons are fun!
>find halberd
>poke my way through the entire game
>play any soul game for the first time
>I'm gonna do a STR build because big weapons are fun!
>do a STR build because big weapons are fun
It's not that hard, unless you have ADHD.
im down to help on ps3
>dex
Just off yourself now
>start up a souls game
>I'm gonna do a FAI build because FAI is based!
>pump faith
>no good early game faith weapons and no good offensive miracles
>make build decision without knowing what weapons are available
>autistically stick to it even when you find another weapon that is more fun to you
No thanks I'll stick with my supposed ADHD
This fight is easy.
All you have to do is keep a pillar between you and the bosses and just keep poking them while circling a pillar.
>make build decision without knowing what weapons are available
Exactly. You make a decision to build a character of a certain archetype, playstyle.
Looking up what weapons the game has in advance and building your character precisely to use those weapons - now that's autistic.
what are the archetypes and how do you know that's the playstyle for you?
use your stabbing move. katanas are primarily slash damage, which armored people are resistant to. since you're obviously a dex scrub, you'll have to stick with the stabbing move or get another weapon like a rapier.
Lightning, chaos and fire are only good at low levels.
If you want to play a safe game with high hp, pyromancy and equip load then go lightning/fire.
If you want REAL DAMAGE go crystal +5 then buff with DMB or CMW
>what are the archetypes
Tanky dude in heavy armor and a shield, dextrous dude with a fast weapon(s), heavy weapon using barbarian dude, sorcerer dude, etc. You name it.
>how do you know that's the playstyle for you?
There's a thing called volition, which should, in theory, make you able to act freely based on your wishes and desires.
demon's spear and sks are the longest range melee weapons in the game
Personally I prefer SKS for looks and moveset if using as a main hand weapon, but demon's spear is actually one of the few viable offhand weapons in the game.
Silver Knight also destroys on a quality build. Massive damage.
what's good on a mundane build?
> Is it viable?
Here we go again. Use a weapon you like. Viability only comes in if you're a pvpfag
NO!
you can't kill Kalameet without a real weapon with reach like a spear or some shit unless you're ''gud''. Good instawin weapons like black knights swords are really good
>you can't kill Kalameet
Does he regenerate? No. That means you can kill him with any weapon.
>not killing shiva of the east for his murakumo
fucking pleb.
Nope, if you make something crystal once you break it it's done for. I'm not sure if the repair sorcery restores any durability for it but I doubt it. I guess crystal is alright for a PVP fag who dupes the weapons but just playing normally adventuring through the game I really cannot recommend crystal weapons.
No. You put your magic/enchanted longsword or whatever you're using in one hand. You put your spell catalyst in the other. Why block or parry when you can just get out of the way and pop off sick magics?
>get to O&S during SL1 playthrough
>shitting bricks
>roast Ornstein's balls with combustions and get through the fight with ease
Holy fuck pyromancy was OP in that game. Still mad that DS2 and 3 turned pyromancy and dark sorcery into Int/Fth magic rather than its own thing (DS3 in particular missed a trick by not making Hexes scale off the new Luck stat which is explicitly tied to humanity/the dark soul).
there's no point in 2handing dex weapons right?
Guts cosplayers need to be shot.
Pyromancy is still OP. I started playing for the DLC and now before I play it I kind of want to go back and make a str or dex char. Pyro is just too easy. But I like it for lore reasons.
I like your style
i beated the game for a 3rd time just yesterday, only uchigatana +15 and dex 40, just upgrade it to 10, put some fire resin and beat the fuck out of them
DEX was the OP stat in 1. I almost wish DEX was still viable in 2 and 3 cuz I exclusively use STR in those two and I'm getting tired of using GS/UGS just kidding I'll never get tired of it
Depends on the weapon. Although you won't get much extra damage from the strength increase you get from two-handing due to low strength scaling, some of them have a better moveset when two-handed.
Ds2 pyromancy still had no stat requirements. Only 3 pulled that shit.
>it's a dexfag fuck up again chapter
As expected.
Ah, fair enough. Been a while since I played it (and didn't particularly enjoy it), so I'm obviously misremembering.
stop being retarded pyromancy scales with int/fait since dark souls 1
>you will never play DaS for the first time again
I even put some restrictions on my runs in an attempt to relive it but it'll never be the same.
"no".
In 1 it was only dex for castspeed like any other casting.
In 2 it had scaling but it was so weak it might as well have been nothing.
Pyromancy in DS1 only scaled with your pyromancy/ascended pyromancy flame's magadjust which was itself only affected by the flame's upgrade level (the Int scaling on the stats screen was a lie and didn't affect anything, not even the flame's R2 punching attack).
>tfw can't beat O&S with +5 Zweihander
>tfw charged attack won't break big Ornstein's poise
Goddamn it, should I upgrade it to +10 or is there no point? I'm level 39.
Try upgrading to git gud +10
>I'm gonna do a faith build
>feel massive amounts of regret and never pick the game up again
fuck you dark souls 3
It's ass at the start but it becomes really good when you max out the stat.
I don't know why they did it like that but it is what it is.
Still better than arcane build in Bloodborne. Almost every arcane item is in the second half of the game.
2 handing dex weapons generally gets you more damage, not from strength scaling, just the moveset having a higher damage multiplier or some arcane bullshit. It's actually a pretty decent damage boost and katanas and curved swords (the dexfag's constant allies) in particular have a great two-handed moveset.
SOULSCANCER THREAD
INTO THE TRASH IT GOES GOIYM
so it feeling like complete garbage is fine till i get to 60 or 99?
because i lost faith
I'd say you start feeling it at 30 and then stop leveling it at 60.
Until then you still get some use from faith based weapons.
Oh and obviousl you need to stack all the rings, except clutch if you're pvping.
Another thing i dislike about 3.
you can get tonitrus pretty quick if you know what you're doing
yeah how dare these fuckers talk about games on Sup Forums
You should try them in DaS they are fun as fuck
SKS is my weaponfu
They are fast as shit, hit hard and have ridiculous reach, pair with flip ring and 2hand SKS with asscrest on your back for good measure and just fucking flip circles around anything and everything without them being able to do jack shit while you poke them to death
Faith is shit if you have less than 60 fth and do not have TRC
What happened to that girl afterwards anyway, is she disabled now or something?
Good idea, is there anywhere I can buy infinite fire resin?
Undead merchant (female)
Cool, Where is she located?
She's in the shortcut from firelink to the depths. Also in case no one has said it yet, kill manlet before burgerman. and use two hands for your katana
In the aqueduct behind the shortcut from lower undead burg.
Crystal weapons have their durability reset every time you upgrade them. Use your upgrades wisely if you want to use crystal weapons
Maybe in the future we'll have the technology to erase specific memories from our minds and we can experience things for the first time again
>turning on us from the very start?
>have a look at my sword, for it's the last thing you'll ever see!
Silver knight spear gains almost no damage from str. Faith doesn't affect it either, it just has the holy modifier against undead. A pike will deal more damage with your build, if you upgrade it all the way to +15.
Demon Spear deals split damage, so don't let the higher combined number fool you. It is a very strong weapon due it's great reach, but increasing dex will only slightly increase the physical damage part, and wont affect the lighting damage at all.
Don't level str much more if you don't plan on using hueg weapons with only 1 hand. 2h scaling stops around 27str for most weapons. Dex scales all the way up to 40.
>kill manlet before burgerman
fucking why
the 2nd stage is around as hard no matter who you kill first
and you get better weapon and a top tier ring for killing bobandy before lahey
I managed to play DaS3 dlc2 without spoilers and it felt pretty good
Start a new game and get the Black Knight Sword. The game practically plays itself with that weapon.
First of all, don't ever upgrade Dex unless you like sucking cocks
Secondly, get a fucking zweihander and get that Strength up to 40
>going to 40 for that sweet sweet 11 increased damage for 13 points of strenght.
It's just the easier way to go about the fight. You have a lot more space to punish spearman once he dashes at you while hammer brother is lagging behind. If you go for biggie before smalls you have to deal with both of them on your dick. Not to mention that Big O has a trickier moveset to deal with, and Big Smoke is just the same shit with some lightning.
And while the leo ring is nice, chances are he's not gonna get the most out of it on his first playthrough with a katana, which only has one relatively slow poke.
yeah that sword is disgustingly easy mode for the first half of the game
It's easy for the whole game if you grind a bit and upgrade it.
yeah but you need to get lucky enough for it to drop, early game the only thing you can do to increase drop rate is to stack a bunch of manatees; even with that it's still not a common drop.
yeah but you can get away with not upgrading it for the first half, I remember I felt like I was cheating when I got that sword so I started a new character and avoided it.
Heck, witch the amount of demons in some parts of the endgame it's still super easy mode.
did they actually do bonus damage to demons or was that just a lore thing?
It's really ez mode for most of the game, considering that you can get by perfectly well damage-wise with just 27str/18dex and plenty of stats to pump into survivability, with the claymore only overtaking it once you get dex near 40.
