Alright, lets seperate the men from the boys. What difficulty were you on for most of your playthrough?
Dick Measuring Contest
Merciless. Was gonna lower it if I didn't beat the final boss first try that shit took over an hour.
Safe. You have to kill fucking eleven billion enemies just to level up once even on Easy and you barely even get any money. It's ridiculous.
hard on my first play through. I only turned it down once for the second palace fight because I couldn't take out paintings (no berserk) and keep my health up.
>I'm not a robot
normal though, because I'm new to turn-based JRPGs
Normal. They did that stupid shit of instead of improving the ai or moving enemies, just decreased your damage and increased the enemies. No point in playing games on hard with those difficulty changes
normal 1st playthrough, easy as fuck (except madarame's fight because i'd try to knock all 4 pieces down on the one turn but 2 works as well) so i decided to go hard mode on my 2nd but i may as well be playing safe because i cant hold myself back from buying my end-game demons from the compendium.
i got to level 73 on normal by the end game without grinding, it's not that hard
By the time I reached the bank even Hard was getting too easy. I guess most people chickened out after getting wiped too many times at kamoshidas.
Hard, just about to fight the final boss right now.
It was the right difficulty.
Normal is too easy and unsatisfying.
I agree with this nigga. Normal is too easy but I am too far in to restart on hard, so I'll wait for my next playthrough.
normal because I don't find tedium entertaining
Playing on hard and I'm at the third palace. Nothing too crazy honestly. Seems pretty easy. The biggest obstacle for me is the god damned battle theme. I'm probably going to have to start listening to spotify in palaces or I'm gonna lose my shit.
>restart
you can switch difficulties at any time, idiot
Hard.
I had to turn the game down to normal so I can do Kamoshidas dungeon without running out of SP in one day but I beat the boss and every other dungeon back on Hard. After Kamoshidas the dungeons never took me more than one day to reach the treasure thanks to coffee and SP accessories
Who here /wentbackaweekprior/ to grind because Merciless only on first playthrough is what the true men play?
Hard, this may sound funny but the only time i dropped the difficulty was for the yusuke awakening fight, for some reason i was really not ready for it.
This.
Most game developers do not balance games for difficulties higher than Normal. They simply adjust some values and call it a day. This means a lot of reasonably designed shit in Normal because fucking stupid in Hard/Merciless. While awful garbage becomes ridiculous.
I wouldn't be surprised if Hard mode Shadow Sae one shots you with her regular attacks before Desperation.
Merciless is more or less an exercise in tedium rather than being difficult. If it was like SMT Nocturne where you need really good stratergy to win it would be fun but x3 crits killing enemies all the time so you can't recruit them is fucking annoying.
well sorry for party rockin
The only time I've ever been tempted to lower the difficulty is for the Burgerbots. Fuck that entire boss fight.
They also reduced the amount of experience and money you get. Definitely not playing this on hard ever.
Sounds like you have to max the fuck out of Sun and Tower ASAP so you can even recruit shit without killing them.
I don't know. I'm like 35 hours in and I haven't even seen a difficulty select yet. It's all just been people talking to each other. When does the actual game start?
Hard while following a guide to max all stats and confidants on the first playthrough.
Yes that was a pain.
Top 3 hardest fight in hard:
Madarame.
Burger king.
Super sayan.
The end game is also quite an exercice of endurance.
Hard. Been below the average level for pretty much every palace. At the end of 6th palace and haven't gotten killed by any bosses yet. Hardest part for me were the beriths in Kamoshida's palace.
Only merciless reduces exp and money.
>35 hours in
>Still thinking this is a real game and not a meme with some periodic battle screen mockups
Only for merciless mode, because real man don't need levels, just a strategy.
I usually play games on normal because I don't like having to use consumables at all. Triggers my autism. Normal is generally balanced in most games so that you never need to consume an item.
The same was mostly true for persona; I did have to use items during the first dungeon
>tfw playing on easy
>disgusted at people playing on safe.
My excuse for easy modo
>40 hour night shift
Its so easy I'm really thinking of upping the difficulty though.
Absolutely disgusting at the amount of normalfags here. It wouldn't be so gross if Sup Forums didn't parade itself as a board for 'hardcur gaymurz XD' like reddit does.
You do this shit on Merciless or Hard if you're an adult and win with the multitude of options the game gives you, not through grinding and gear/ability checks, but through thinking. It's this sort of attitude that will kill RPGs and really all games in general and it's sad that Atlus has extended this new way of thinking over to Etrian Odyssey and SMT. Love P5 but this reception is cancer
>Dificulty select appears in the first 10 minutes of the game
What did he mean by this?
I used to agree to this canned response but after you play enough of these games you realize that Normal is designed for the lowest common denominator. If I wanna feel thrill from a game I need to crank it up.
Normal and below are pretty much for people who either dont play video games or have stressful jobs.
>spend 30 minutes of Hitler tier eugenics fusing personas together to create an array of personas with many different attacks and elements
>have to try and figure out what personas i fused when I get bootyblasted by boss and have to return to the week prior thus redoing it all fucking over again
Fuck me and they were so good
He left his PS4 on without plugging a controller.
Lad, all you need to do is find weakness, attack that.
I have all these buff and debuff spells and never had to use them.
It's cute they even bothered to include them and the 'talk' feature like it was a real SMT.
Why do my battle screen mockups take me back two hours when I'm not perfect?
I don't change the difficulty, I'm on Hard. I'm sure I'll get merciless if I decide to play again.
Sure tell me how you beat the game in hard or harder without buff retard.
Safe is for compendium completion.
He played on Safety, that's how.
>I have all these buff and debuff spells and never had to use them.
I don't think you can ever survive Shadow Sae without Rakukaja on Hard
>be me
>Always played games on normal for most of my life
>Have fun with games
>Discover Sup Forums
>See endless fellating of playing games on Hard and how playing on anything less is unforgivable
>Start playing all games on hard
>Immediately start having less fun and start hating games
>Go back to playing things on normal
>Games are fun again
It was weird discovering why Sup Forums hates games so much. Stop worrying about your e-peen and just enjoy games like you're supposed to.
Great idea, OP. Surely no one goes on the internet and tell lies.
I could probably do hard/merciless but to me Persona unlike the rest of the series is for comfy waifus, not tuff battles
I will not touch a difficulty mode higher than Normal unless I read that substantial effort has been put into it.
Period. The overwhelming majority of developers cannot make difficult, yet fair and fun games. I do not get off on tedium.
You're not even done with the first palace, I believe. Or safety. Really dude, it's no SMT but it's getting there.
>tedium
>normal or below
Woah.
Games are piss easy on normal, how is that not tedium?
Incredible how far people go to not admit that they just suck.
You can't. Shadow Sae must also be showing that Sae is shooting herself up with steroids and her anger is roid rage because that bitch hits harder than every previous boss.
Her normal attacks on hard will do 500 damage without Rakukaja up. With Desperation she wipes the entire party. You have 1 turn to empty that health bar.
Safe, because I don't really do replays, at least not till years later, and play for story rather than challenge. Also because of the no replay thing, did a max all s links in one go run, so the money boost was appreciated. When I do replay, I'll try a ng run for challenge.
Would you still love Haru if a bully shaved her head against her will?
>these based guys shitting on difficultyfags and picking safe
Exactly this.
>play games on normal/easy
>have beat all Soulsborne games and DLC.
I'm bad at video games, I just choose to enjoy them, not smash my controller off the wall.
>people play terrible games like Drakengard on anything but easy
Why?
It goes both ways though. Facerolling through a dungeon gets old after 10 minutes. The game gives you a jackhammer to hammer down a nail, I would say Normal is the poorly designed difficulty.
You don't know what tedium is. Stop using that word.
Tedium is Korean MMO where the effort being demanded is not worth the reward being offered. I don't jack off to difficulty in games. Developers create the game on Normal.
I respect people who play safe way more than the ones who pick merciless.
I played on Normal except for the lame final dungeon with the 4 mini bosses in a row, I did fuck all damage and couldn't even go back anymore, so it was either grinding for hours or lowering the difficulty to easy for that last bit.
this
Think I'm gonna play on the easiest. Never played Persona and I'm kinda dumb, we'll see.
Cute passive aggressive post, but you really are a pleb if you can't enjoy a game on hard. You're most likely a low test fag who hates challenge because you're so used to getting everything you want when you want. I hate to be so rude and upforth about it, but I've seen countless people, including friends, who end up that way with your sort of mentality, while people who embrace challenge are the types that get ahead. Anecdotal, yes, but deep down I think we all know that's the truth.
What's funny is that this game isn't even some "faceroll" on Normal. If you do stupid things like not guard Wakaba's Divebomb, or Sae's Berserker Dance you're going to get wiped. The game still has miniboss type enemies, Hama/Mudo/Fear/Wail/Despair spamming fags, etc...
It's just that on Normal the game is balanced between city life and combat, while on Hard the game is heavily unbalanced toward the combat side of things.
if you play this weeb trash chances are your dick is too small to measure
You are a retard. Tedium is used to describe something being dull or boring. A game being too easy the whole time fits that description pretty well.
You don't have to jack off to difficulty in games, but part of the fun is overcoming something that's challenging. If you don't have to try to win, why are you playing?
I definitely don't regret playing through on Normal, and will do so on every subsequent playthrough. Just imagining fucking Okumura's palace on Hard makes me groan.
Daily reminder they fucked up Merciless and made it easy by having criticals be easier to get. Literally worst difficulty. I mean how do you make your hardest difficulty the easiest?
Hard mode, gonna do Merciless during second playthrough.
>Normal
>piss easy up until the Space Station, and even then the Space Station and Casino were only mildly difficult
>Hard
>everything UP TO the space station is nigh impossible without setting a schedule and praying to god you grind up enough for that essential Persona
I haven't played merciless or easy, but it seems the difficulty is imbalanced on normal and hard. As soon as you get to a decent level in hard, you don't really have to worry about shit.
>respect
>while on Hard the game is heavily unbalanced toward the combat side of things.
What are you talking about? Besides Kamoshida, I've cleared every palace in the minimum number of days. I've had plenty of time to do s links and max out stats.
>Videogames are about having fun
>Life is difficult, frustrating, and infuriating
>Come home from a long day of work with people you don't really care for
>Hobbies are fun relaxing and enjoying yourself
>Play some extremely stressful shit
You're worse than Germans who come home from work and play Work Simulators to relax.
On normal the game is skewed towards city life like FUCK. I'm on hard and I finish dungeons in one or two possible days and then it's waiting until the next one, passing the other 9/10s of the game in city life.
Easy, but I'm doing Merciless for NG+
Friendly reminder that casuals rule this world and eventually literally every game will cater to us. People like you being assblasted over it just makes it even sweeter. Games belong to us now, not you. Deal with it.
>game on easy is dull and boring.
Nah lad, simple reward system mate. The more you're rewarded the more you're happy playing.
>tfw wish hard mode had time management, so that if you want to go out in the evening then you can, fuck kittykat, but your stats will be lower the next day.
I started on Hard and it was a fucking struggle, Kaneshiro almost made me lower the difficulty
After that it was a lot more manageable, mostly because of Tae's SP recovery charm
I did this because I still have some other games in my backlog I REALLY want to play, and Persona is a One-Shot thing. So I put it on Safety, enjoying the fuck out of the ride so I can quickly get it done and move on to other games.
C'mon the real experience is playing it on Hardâ„¢
I've been playing on hard and having a blast. The best moment until now was when, in Shido's palace, I had three consecutive boss fights when getting the 5th letter and I absolutely did not expect it. After having a really hard time with the letter guy, I actually managed to do it with a party of different members than I was used to (because the others died and the new party seemed to work). It was really fun.
>everything UP TO the space station is nigh impossible without setting a schedule and praying to god you grind up enough for that essential Persona
I've beaten everything on hard without planning ahead or grinding it's honestly not bad. I was Level 19 after Madarame.
Merciless is dumb because it cuts your xp ond money gain though. Easy, Normal, and Hard all give the same experience and money.
Normal without SP patches would have made more sense
SP patches make the game an absolute joke on pretty much any difficulty because you can just spam your OP spells and heals
I dont know what you're doing wrong. Kamoshida's is difficult because the game will take no nonsense despite your piddly stats, but it doesn't get harder after that.
>He doesn't have the psychological need for achievement.
You should stay in your memento jail.
Started on hard, now on normal and switch to hard before a palace boss. Now that I've got the possibility to get loads of sp recovery items I'll probably switch to hard after sae's palace though.
I started on normal but went to hard after I stomped Kamoshida.
>Get Sp Adhesives by the end of the second palace simply because I wanted to bone the hot doctor ASAP.
Probably the oddest thing thats ever led me to trivialize a game.
>the more you're rewarded the more you're happy playing
You have to feel like you actually want the rewards. Go dunk on some grade schoolers and tell me how rewarded you feel.
And no, that would be ridiculously stupid.
>finish dungeon ASAP
>keep your stats low and they affect nothing until the last day when you steamroll mementos
>life is disgusting
For you, maybe.
I worked hard in high school and college and made out well for myself. I live a comfy enough, good life where I don't mind playing stressful stuff. Kinda funny now that successful normies are the ones who want hard vidya while the dumbass degenerate losers are the true casuals.
Also, you ever been to Germany, and not read Sup Forums memes about German stereotypes? They're lazy as shit, m8.
Exactly, these faggots don't realize that Persona 5 is actually about the social links and story and not the combat. That's why I don't give two shits if the game is hard or not. That's not why people play Persona.
People looking for challenging turn based combat with this look go for SMT proper or other things like Etrian Odyssey.
When people talk about what made Persona big, and why the reboot of the series in 2006 worked so well, it's not the combat they praise.
>Normal felt too easy
>Didn't want to turn up the difficulty because save points were so stupidly rare
Bad game design IMO. With save anywhere I would have turned it up as high as possible straight away, but I don't like losing progress I already made.
Played normal for most of it, until the last dungeon when tokyo gets all fucked up, then I put it on safe because I ran out of SP and just couldn't beat the last mini boss. Then I just went safe
Thank god because I would have died at the last boss regardless.
>All these bitches patting each other backs for playing easy difficulties
I get the preference, but alleging it's the correct way? You better be baiting.
I had a sixth sense that told me to use a soma before engaging the Baphomet in the engine room, since i didn't want to leave the palace.
My rehabilitation is going well.
I did my first one on hard since I'm fresh outta smt:3 again, so I know most of the weaknesses from older games, the only boss that gave me trouble was and that's cause I ran out of Sp, thankfully I had got the Mystery stew, so I just kept restoring Sp. I'm doing my second one on normal so I can just relax.
There is a place for both and games catered to being fun yet relaxing exist.
It's not about having hard battle, but a more memorable experience, what's the point of social link, the tension of the story if every battle segment require 0% of your IQ? that's just not interesting.
>You have to feel like you actually want the rewards. Go dunk on some grade schoolers and tell me how rewarded you feel.
Don't know, my dad enjoyed beating me at football all the time and boy did he let me know.
It's an Sup Forums meme. If it's poking the fun at a country and not genuinely racist, it's probably an Sup Forums meme.
I realized back in P3 that SP was the main limiting factor in how far you could go (outside of the faggot fatigue shit). In P3 with that gone I'd knock out the shorter dungeons in one day and go and have fun with the good parts of the game. In P5 they realized that we'd figured this shit out and bloated dungeons to a stupid degree to force several days use...
Until we found the best fucking character in the game, got SP Adhesives, and married her.
You could have just asked Lavenza to replenish your HP/SP.
Fuck
