Doom engines can draw hundreds of enemies on screen and bodies stay

>doom engines can draw hundreds of enemies on screen and bodies stay

>skip to 2017, games can have 12 or so enemies max, and bodies have to disappear or else engine implodes

Why are we going backwards? How is this acceptable? Why are we focusing on screen resolutions, graphics and VR when we cant even perfect a game engine

Because consoles.

Graphics are more important because you can't show off AI, level design and framerate in bullshots.

Consoles push tech, pcs hold it back. Look at mgs2's tech vs Thief 2 beings the same shitty origami engine in the same year.

Because that allows for higher res textures and higher polygon counts and that's what sells video games now.
Remember F.E.A.R. and all the technology it had? people didn't care.

Graphics are an easier, more visible thing to advance (and thus use to justify higher prices for your game) than AI, physics, etc...

Also, the average mook in today's games has more polygons and shaders than entire games in the past. You cannot have hundreds of fucking Baron of Hell corpses loaded into memory at full (or even half detail + simpler shadows) without taxing the fuck out of hardware.

Also, the average PC on steam is less powerful and has less VRAM than the current consoles.

Developers figured out long ago it's better to be conservative with their games so it can run on as many customers' PCs as possible, for maximum profit. It's why the most popular PC games in the world (LOL, CSGO) are ancient and can run well on ancient craptops.

Try having hundreds of bodies on-screen on a typical computer from the time Doom was launched. It won't end well.

because enemies in doom are pixellated 2D sprites while enemies now are fully animated 3D models

We're not going backwards you whiny piece of shit. Graphical fidelity has gotten expontentially better over the past 25 years, to the point where our hardware can't keep up with it. There will be a time in the future where a game with D44M's engine will be able to render hundreds of enemies on screen at once, but with current hardware that's just not possible.

>aw geez, you know I've been wanting to try one-a them, what do you call em', anime dating sims? But my wife, you see, she doesn't like it when I'm playing my 3DS in bed, says it keeps her awake. So I go out and I get myself a Switch, because if I'm going to play games on the couch, I may as well have a full sized screen, you undahstan.

>and sir, that's where you made your first mistake. you said you were at home playing video games the night of the murdah. but when we inspected your home, we only found a Sony Vita and a Nintendo Switch. so what I want to know, sir, is how were you playing video games on consoles that have no video games?

>Nu-doom looks great and runs at triple digits fps on toasters
>Most games can't run at 30 fps

Some devs are hacks

Nigga, do you even Columbo? He wouldn't start that last paragraph off with "and sir", his accusations always start with "there's just one thing", or something along those lines. I haven't seen the show in 20-something years, but you have to remember that he kind of plays a bumbling detective to fool people.

This has got to be pasta with PS3 replaced with Switch

KEK

Keep believing this, the hardware in your console was obsolete the moment it rolled off the production line. The main benefit of consoles with regards to development is a single hardware configuration and a single software os/API configuration, easier to develop for.

There are several episodes where he just takes the guy to task straight up, usually when the murderer is openly rude to him or when his only motive was profit.

"there's just one thing" was a meme, Columbo didn't always use it. During the big reveal is when he'd finally show how smart he was.

>hating on darkengine
>hating on Thief

At least enemies in Thief can see further than 2 feet away. ( I love MGS anyway )

>i was playing breath of the wild, and im really tired of your senseless accusation lt. columbo, i've been way to kind as of now with you!

>Get out of my office i'll make a call to your superiors, i've got lot of contact lieutenant and you know it!

screencapped

When you will have 100 million dollars ,please, invest in perfect engine, make perfect game so we all are finally happy.
You don't have 100mill? Well, fuck it, who does? Good guys like Troika,Black Isle,THQ,Psygosys,Rage Soft,Westwood,Origin,Delphine studios,cinemaware,3do ,big huge etc?
Nah, kinda people with moolah are them evil corps who made 30 CODs on quake engine, same engine for Morrowind was used all the way to Fallout4, Source engine(literally engine for toasters) earned more cash than prolly all other combined(what with all esport bullshit games and later on by proxy).

And,guess what, its not their fault, someone had to buy all that shit and make EA,AcTiVision,UbiSoft,Zenimax powerhouses they are.
Its always our fault,always!
Vote with your wallet, pirate, try,if good, buy! Or,make one engine yourself.

Go home pajeet.

I gave the tomb raider reboot another chance recently. The combat was kind of alright but what bothered me even more than the dumb cinematic press x to not die moments was killing like 5 dudes, turning around to grab something a few feet away, turning back and realizing that their corpses had disappeared so I couldn't loot them anymore.

Side Note: playing games at any resolution higher than 1024x768 is completely unnecessary "master race" behavior. Unless it's some slow crap where half the appeal of the game is just how good it looks.

20 years ago people asked "what cool things can I do in this game?"
Today people ask "Does it look good?"

>tfw love this show; have recently watched the entire series
>tfw no more Columbo

...

>blaming consoles for holding PC back
Just accept it, companies don't give two shits about PC. Consoles is where the money is at.

RIP peter falk. Honestly one of the most comfty shows on TV
