Path of Exile

God this game is so fucking complicated

I have provide an image of a Storm Blunt Bladed Mace. It's yellow, so that means it's fucking awesome. However, it has this stat on it that is confusing the hell out of me.

+50 to accuracy ratting

Does that mean my spell casts get +50 to accuracy too?
Or does it mean I get +50 to accuracy ONLY when I swing the mace and try to hit for melee?

huh?

Fuck Blizzard. They permanently lost me as a customer when they got hacked, changed the email associated with my account WITHOUT SENDING A VERIFICATION NOTICE TO MY EMAIL, then demand that I send them a copy of my drivers license to reactivate it.

I haven't given that company one cent since and I never will.

Ok. I read it. No where in that wiki page is there an answer to my question.

"Spells do not benefit from accuracy since evasion does not aid in avoiding them."

Well, then how does a spell crit?

It's my understanding that getting critical strikes is dependent upon accuracy ratting.

"Accuracy measures the chance for an attack to hit. Accuracy-dependent attacks make a second accuracy check to confirm the critical strike. If the check fails only a normal hit is dealt. Thus accuracy can play an important role in quantity of critical strikes.[1] "

So again, if I equip this mace, will it increase the accuracy of my spells?

im no expert but accuracy is needed for phys. crit, because it rolls if you hit the attack, then if you get the crit chance to proc the game checks again if the accuracy is hit. unless the 2nd accuracy roll hits you just hit normally (no crit). this does not apply to spells. the game just checks if it is a crit, the accuracy check just doesnt exist for spells.

critical strike is melee crit
spell crit is for spells
global crit is everything

How do I improve the chance a spell will crit?

>Accuracy-dependent attacks make a second accuracy check to confirm the critical strike.
>Attacks
Spells are not attacks in PoE.
Spells cannot be evaded, accuracy doesn't affect them.

Global critical strike chance increases crit chance for attacks and spells.
Spell critical strike chance (found on items and on the passive tree) affects spells only.

this means all skills with the 'attack' name in the name use the accuracy check, all skills with spell don't i think.

Check post above.

Generally I'd not recommend going spell crit at a low level and rather scale flat elemental damage (%fire or whatever you're using).

Elemental Overload cluster is pretty good for leveling, as it adds a huge damage multiplier that's up quite often.

You can respec into crit at a higher level, but then again if you don't care about being more optimal and just wanna crit, go ham. Fun comes first.

Spells can't miss.

I'm playing a Templar necro with 6 zombies, contagion, essence drain and blight and I want to case cold spells automatically that freeze enemies that get to close.

I got the idea when I learned that when a spell crits, it automatically freezes, ignites, etc.

But they do crit. I'm trying to learn how to increase the chance of my spells crits and I mistakenly believed that accuracy improved those chances.

I learned in this thread that it doesn't.

This means that the game will roll first to see if the attack is a critical using your criteria chance. Then the game rolls a second time to see if the attack is an attack that lands using your accuracy.

So you can roll positive to crit but miss your roll to actually land the attack making the crit roll go to waste.l since you need to land a hit for any of it to matter.

He's talking about spells dude. What your talking about only applies to attacks. (sword, bow, etc)

Accuracy only plays a part in Attack's chance to crit because in order for an Attack to crit it must first hit.

You increase your spell crit chance by getting increased crit chance (either global or specific to spells)

Spells can't miss so accuracy doesn't affect them. How hard is this to understand?

wait, it doesn't?

It's been explained 3-4 times in this thread

TL;DR
Attacks need accuracy
Spells do not

Going for "Chance to freeze" might be a better bet if you want to go minions and chaos damage aswell.
To go for three different damage types AND crit might spread yourself a bit too thin.

Look at the Annihilation node group

Also, crit does nothing for blight and contagion, it does very little for essence drain since it is mostly a damage of time effect aswell.
Your minions are not effected by your spell crit either, they have their own stats like "minion damage" etc.

One of the few problems with the game is that it's wording is almost yugioh tier sometimes.

If you want to improve your criteria chance with spells you will need to look for the modifiers "global crit chance" which effects both your physical crit and spell crit and then the specific modifier "spell crit chance" which only effects spells right. Like most weapons spells have a base crit chance between 5-7%. I don't think the game shows you this and you have to look online to see what base crit chance your spell has. Check your offense page to see exactly what your current crit chance is with the current spell. Also something you should know is that when hitting multiple things from a single cast, unlike 'on hit' things like life gain, each individual hit from a single cast does not have its own chance to crit. Either the spell rolls as a crit and they all crit or it does not and nothing crits.

Cast speed sorta indirectly effects crit chance since the more you cast something the more chances you a rolling for it to crit. Which matters if you have abilities that go off when a crit is landed so you may want to disregard some damage and get DPS through attack speed.

I'm a scrub tho and haven't even got to
Do maps yet.

I'm aware of that.

The crits are a guaranteed freeze. The crits aren't garanteed, but the freeze is if you get a crit.

My entire interest in this is solely crowd control. If you hit me, I'll freeze you solid and wait for my zombies to smash you.

lol, I rather like this concept. Also, while they are frozen, the could get essence drained from contagion spreading.

I wonder if putting knock back on it too would cause frozen mobs to shatter?

>shatter
Knockback will not shatter mobs, only knock them back. A mob that is killed while frozen will always shatter.

>Like most weapons spells have a base crit chance between 5-7%. I don't think the game shows you this and you have to look online to see what base crit chance your spell has.
Pretty sure it does when you highlight the gem.

>affixes called global
>doesn't affect minions or other characters
