Pick your poison

W-RPG

I need customization and waifucrafting potential. No game has infinite replayability, but there is a reason I've got over 5k hours on skyrim and only 50 on Witcher 3

>play wrpg
>pick 4.fuck you
>npc tells me:fuck you leather man
PANIC

Jesus christ. I will never understand how anyone played Skyrim for more than 15 hours.

JRPGs aren't RPGS.
WRPGs are.

>W-RPG
>good, heroic path
>bad, evil path
>neutral
tfw how good or evil you are is a spectrum with 99% of people falling in the grey area between black and white
idk if I'll see a game in my lifetime that does this right, there would be too much to account for from dialogue options, interactions, endings of games, cutscenes etc.

> W-RPG choices now

>1: yes
>2: no (yes)
>3 : sarcastic yes
>4 : yes but later

This bait would have been fresher years ago when WRPGs weren't trying to force you into a character role too. Look at Fallout 4 or any modern BioWare game: you may have options for dialogue, but you're definitely not a "blank slate" character.

Those are literally what the choices in persona 5 are, wonder why they even added it.

>It's the daily "Japanese games don't do character creation/role playing" thread.

I hoped From's rise to popularity would end this meme.

>From
>role playing" thread.

You get more say in Dark Souls than you do in "Choose Your Favorite Photoshop Effect 3."

JRPGs because they have actually good gameplay sometimes. Most WRPGs are just awful in general, and most of the remainder is only noticeable for muh choice and muh immersion faggotry, rendered completely pointless if you're not a shut-in and have actual friends to play D&D with.

Jrpgs. I hate blank slate characters. I don't self-insert in any game so character creation stuff is worthless to me.

I'll even take silent protags over avatars since they actually feel like characters. They may not speak but they still have only one design and usually have a bit of personality shown through their experience in the story.

I prefer fleshing out my character myself.

WRPGs usually let you choose a basic history that includes a few details, more modern games have stopped doing this though and the most recent games have taken it to the opposite extreme and shoved in all kinds of history.

I'm sorry but genre comparisons involve more than one game.

Elona

I piick the good game.

I like both sides.

JRPGs are more fun to play and look at on average even if the plot sucks

>5k.

fucking bullshit.

>more fun to play

is San Andreas an RPG?

It's fucking long enough.

Better gameplay, please prove me wrong.

dorf fort

How is the top an RPG
It's not even your character

So if you show up to a night of DND and someone hands you a character to play then you're not roleplaying?

Do you think before you speak or just kind of open your mouth and let stuff fly out?

>West
>Generic medieval fantasy setting.
>Combat tries to be "realistic", ends up being mediocre but solid.

>East
>Anything goes, including what the west does but better.
>Flashy combat, but either hit or miss.

>So if you show up to a night of DND and someone hands you a character to play then you're not roleplaying?
I don't play with them. No point if it isn't your character. In most of those sorts of games you have no real control over your character anyway

This guy gets it

>don't play with them.
So you're autistic and a retard.

>FF7 Cloud
>androgyne
Fucking revisionists!

Time to take a breather from here.

No, because none of my friends would assign me a character and we don't do autistic shit like that

Obviously you don't know what an RPG is

>Video game
>Protagonist has amnesia
wow

Come on animals

>can't get dubs on this board
oh well, still rolling

Why not

Fine.

Ah fuck, I don't want autism. Rerolling

Oh boy!

Both are wrong. The jrpg protag is 15 and nu-bioware is very far from having invented the wrpg genre.

How is playing a role you are given not roleplaying? The term RPG isn't exclusive to roles you create.

00 here I come.

The bottom pic is probably Bethesda, not Bioware lul

They're both shit now though.

You generally don't get the ability to roleplay the character you're given in a jrpg. You merely follow along, sometimes you have the privilege of being allowed the great honor of having the power to distribute a few statpoints per level at best.

I don't even watch anime, but I guess I'll do it.

Brain deficiencies? I mean there is no other way you could endure Witcher 3 for that long.

It's a Persona game. Beyond choosing who you're going to date and getting some SL bonuses here and there, the dialogue options are pretty much inconsequential and just there to make you feel a bit more invested in the story and give the main character some of your personality. The game never claimed your choices would influence the story outcome.

Good. RPGs suck

...

You can't play dress up for 5000 hours. I refuse to believe you.

rollen for tg

"Roleplaying" is a myth unless it's a complete sandbox game that only exists in Sup Forums game idea threads.
Name one open world game where you can activelly play to build your farm, plant and shit, fight to get materials only while it's still possible to go around questing and shit.

The most roleplay you get is set dialogues in set stories with set outcomes. This isn't actually roleplaying, otherwise Visual Novels would drastically outplay any RPG out there in terms of dialogue and story interaction.

>dark souls
>JRPG

pls make me work

Rolleroskie.

Witcher does this. Everything you do and how you act affects the world or you but never adds towards some karma meter.

Complete a quest to find a man's body for his wife, and you can then refuse payment from the grieving widow.

Taking the money doesn't make you evil, it doesn't affect the greater story, but more money is more resources towards your overall goal.

Refuse the money and it's the same, you'll never see her again, noone will care about what you did and you've now made yourself comparatively weaker by getting less resources.

Everything comes down to just what you think the right thing to do is.
