when is this coming to the west
i need it in my life
Early 2018.
Kiwami in August.
>Yacuckza 6
They ruined it
>beat takashi
OH SHIIIIIIIIIIIIIITTTTTTTTTTT
yakuza 6 isn't that good though
>combat is way too shallow after playing 0 and kiwami
>muh seamless open world doesn't amount to anything and only hurts the game by forcing them to drop the framerate and resolution
>less types of buildings, basically a single burger joint
>bunch of streets just shut off to the player for no reason
>no rooftop fights
Is Kiwami at least good enough for 30 bucks? The steelbook looks neat and I missed 0's launch edition.
Kiwami is alright. It's about 90% copy paste from yakuza 0 but for $30 you'll probably get your money's worth
It does have some problems though. The majima system leads to some story changes as they have to come up with a new reason for majima to be injured when you run into him in shangri la. A lot of the gameplay elements introduced with yakuza 0 lead to frustrating encounter design with yakuza 1 fights. The animation in the ps2 cutscenes is pretty bad as it's directly copy and pasted from the original game while the new cutscenes have noticeably better animation and lip syncing
I'd say get it, mainly because it's more yakuza
Great OST though

youtube.com
best music but fairly weak gameplay wise
it feels more like a tech demo than a conclusion to a story they've been building for close to 12 years
>The animation in the ps2 cutscenes is pretty bad as it's directly copy and pasted from the original game
I hated this. I was expecting Akiyama to be the hobo that picks up money at the end.
Well yeah it is. Most of the cast got gutted aside from Kiryu, Haruka, Date, Amon and a little bit of Akiyama. The antagonist isn't even that relevant in the series
Also Majima, Saejima and Daigo get written out in the most inconsistent way possible
diago's been a failure nearly his entire life so that's not too bad.
very mad about majima and saejima though
>smaller kamurocho than fucking yakuza 2
It's pathetic.
>streets blocked off for no reason
>kiryu somehow looks even worse than he did in 5
What the hell? I had no idea it was like this. I only played 0, so I don't know much about the series, but doesn't 5 have five cities and five different characters you play as? And doesn't 6 only have two cities and you only play as Kiryu?
What the hell happened?
barely any screen time
6 is a new engine
If that's the excuse, why does it look like such shit when compared to games that are on a last-gen console?
move to a new engine that the team wasn't as familiar with.
Yakuza 0 could have ended up like this too, but the team was smart enough to make ishin first to learn the engine
Do those road blocks ever go away or are they there for the entire game?
They have more experience with the old engine.
>seamless open world
REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
WHY DO DEVS KEEP FALLING FOR THIS MEME
pretty sure it's the entire game. The areas are just not available
You can see the blocked areas on this map. The entirety of kamurocho hills is unavailable, and by extension the arena is too.
Then how did Ishin end up being the best Yakuza game ever?
this is so upsetting
Dunno. Both Kenzan and Ishin are meant to be the tests for the new engines, and somehow they are both some of the best even compared to mainline
pure luck my dude. Probably because it was a new location, characters and setting. It being a spinoff meant the team didn't need to hold themselves to the same level as the mainline games
I think my problem with the characters in yakuza 6 is they look like clay or something
Hey guys, which would you rather have:
1. No loading screens, but the visuals are severely downgraded, the framerate drops constantly, screen tearing is everywhere, there's no anti-aliasing at all and you can see every model popping in from very close
2. 5 second loading screens
As you no doubt know, this was a rhetorical question. We as gamers want nothing more than a seamless experience. There's nothing more immersion ruining as an almost instant loading screen. In fact, I'd rather have huge sections of the city cut out just so I don't have to look at loading screens.
Who's with me?
2nd options
I like my sandbox and minigames
bear in mind that although I've said that yakuza 6 isn't amazing, it's by no means a bad game
Yeah fuck those 5 second loading screens man ain't nobody got time for that, just fuck my shit up instead senpai
doesn't kiryu end up having to raise some dumb chink baby? what went wrong in his life?
>what went wrong in his life?
A fucking lot.
basically everything following nishiki shooting dojima
I'd say his first mistake was not following Kazama's advise and becoming a Yakuza
0
>Kiryu man the fuck up
>Nah senpais I have muh bro Nishiki
1
>Kiryu I'm a man now I gotta be at the top and surpass you
>No you fuckwit I have muh daughterfu
2
>Kiryu muh true dragon
>muh clan. I'm responsible since Nishiki did everything wrong
3,4,5
>Kiryu here's this problem that has nothing to do with you at all, since you're taking care of an orphanage and all
>sign me the fuck up famalam. Muh Tojo
Me too.
Please, Japan.
Outside the gameplay the game is still crappy old yakuza
What is Kiwami? A remake of 1?
I know I could google, but I feel like I would get the PR answer and not the real one.
I have no problem playing ps1 or 2 games, so if it's not faithful and the original is better Sup Forums would tell me that better than google.
Breathe.
I only just started playing Yakuza 0 last month, and it's my first entry because I played PC only for most of my life.
>What is Kiwami? A remake of 1?
Yes
There's been 6 games already? Collection bundle when?
6 mainline games + 1 remake + 3 spinoffs
Alright. Thanks.
A remake of 1
It's kept the same with some extra cutscenes that explore some plot points in the original, and more screen time for a fan favorite side character (from 3 scenes in 1 to over 20 scenes)
OST get remix which is most of the time worse
Gameplay is the same as 0
When the fuck does Yakuza 0 get good? The voice acting and cutscenes are incredible so far but everything else is utter shit.
Fuckin' smashing.
Kenzan and Yakuza 5 had new engines too and didn't have 6's problems though. The devs made Binary Domain during Yakuza 5's development even. For 6 it was just a combination of them struggling with the new engine and them genuinely just fucking up. In hindsight alarm bells should've been ringing as soon as they started talking about the seamless open world stuff.
In 5 he admits that he loves the yakuza life though. Also he hates that he loves it and is also too old for this shit in general. Someone needs to just put him out of his misery already before Haruka makes his life even worse than it already is again somehow
It's kinda weird they decided to make a new engine with Yakuza 6. Traditionally they made their new engines for spinoffs like they did with Kenzan, Dead Souls and Ishin before using it on mainline installments.
thispic of Y6 looks pretty good
I thought Dead Souls was the same engine 4 used. It looks and feels like a slightly modded Yakuza 4 atleast.
Wait they kept the cutscenes? Thoughtt this was a remake? Its a remaster?
It's a remake, they just used the same animations from the PS2 game to make the cutscenes.
the cutscenes are all in the new engine. They're shot for shot the exact same as the original ps2 versions but all using the new models
youtube.com
There's sections in the cutscenes done entirely new which look noticeably better than the ps2 parts
Hour one.
it took me a few hours to get into it but it's totally worth it.
Isn't the director of the series not involved with 6 at all?
Ah ok. I got it now. Thanks.
>Kiwami is only 40 maple bucks
Excellent since I imported the ps3 release at full jap price.
Still better than like 90% of the shit games that are coming out this year anyway.
