No seriously, look it up. Due to Bloodborne, all the experienced people that mattered kept getting pulled off of DaS2 to work on Bloodborne. They had massive, grand ideas for DaS2, but then halfway through development they had to start over again from scratch because the game couldnt run on consoles. So they had to literally go back to the drawing board on almost everything, including the plot, visuals, and world layout. Earthen peak was supposed to lead to the undead crypt. Rotten was supposed to be the boss of the catacombs, and was just a throwaway boss, not a a greatsoul holder. he'd cut off his legs to get to you the Dragon Shrine was supposed to be Drangleic Castle, which is why it's so heavily featured in trailers and promotional stuff, and even the very intro cinematic, as that castle on a rocky peak, with dragons all over the place. the Dragon Shrine itself is barely a stage. It's Demon Ruins/Lost Izalith levels of unfinished and unrealized potential. The dragon memory was a boss fight/NPC encounter (with the ancient dragon, which is why you get his soul there) Aldia's keep very likely had a second level, be it upper or lower. Iron Keep was much larger, and featured actual weapons manufacturing areas with conveyor belts, gears, the works. there was an area like the depths which likely led to the gutter. the "dark chasm of old" is the re purposed remains of an entire stage, which was supposed to be a dripstone cavern like place, where you encountered a dead dragon/dragon skeleton. it was preceeded by a graveyard looking area. Undead purgatory had a back entrance. if you go behind the wall at the bottom of the staircase, there is some partially rendered hallway geometry, an entrance, and a small path. shaded woods has some unused path geometry too if you look at the rocky formation above the fog. even with the eventual final version of the castle, the aqueduct in the shaded ruins was supposed to be a side path to the castle.

Where is your proof?
Chase Price
So what you're telling me is that if Dark Souls 2 had been good, Bloodborne would have been shitty?
I'm okay with this timeline. Bloodborne is way more interesting thematically than Dark Souls 2 is.
Liam Baker
because bamco had a hand in it
Levi Gutierrez
>Question: Why was Dark Souls 2 so shitty?
because people expected it to be as new and interesting as dark souls 1
Isaiah Butler
But both bloodborne and DaS 3 were fantastic
John Collins
I will never not be salty about that gutted lighting system which is why everything looks so fucking hideous.
Matthew King
And yet apologists will still deny that consoles hold back gaming.
Ryder Reyes
What holds back gaming is shit game design
Graphics plateaued back in 2007
John Rodriguez
No fuking shit v mind. Ive been telling this hit since d2 downgrade but fucking no one wanted listen. Ds2 was sabotaged, keep doing gods work op.
Jaxson Davis
DaS3 was shit. It's a stupid polished copy of DaS. No build variety, covenants are the worst, pvp is the worst, magic is shit and so on. The game is a boring uninspired piece of shit.
Chase Reyes
It's no secret that DaS2 went through development hell. Even Demon's Souls didn't have it as bad, evidently.
Jeremiah Taylor
It was cancelled multiple times internally during development. The final build was made in 6 months from stitched together assets from older builds and had the lore rewritten to fit, hence the LMAO CYCLES bullshit being the entire plot rather than just a framing device for the actual plot itself, which was the quest for the crowns and the shards of Manus, which of course ended up in the season pass HMMMMM THANKS NAMCO REALLY FIRED UP THE OLD NEURONS WONDER WHY ON EARTH YOU THOUGHT THAT WAS A GOOD IDEA.
Alexander White
>my shitty opinions matter
Isaac Torres
Huh. Makes kinda sense.Too bad the pvp was so active in ds2 so I pumped many hours there just to do fucking invasions and fight clubs. Too bad the rest of the game didn't live up to the hype
Angel Perry
>from stitched together assets from older builds
You can really feel that this is true when you look at the map as a whole.
Gabriel Ross
This is true minus the stuff about staff being pulled for Bloodborne. From aren't a small company, they have three full size teams who all work on games at any given moment, they used to release two games a year until 2011 where they've released one a year on three year dev cycles (for the most part, all three DaS games had fucky developments from Namco Jewery or technical problems). DaS2 had plenty of experienced staff, all three teams have a good distribution of talent since they don't want to put all their eggs in one basket in case their project flops, the issue was the first director, Tomohiro Shibuya, not taking into account the fact that the game had to run PS360. So his experienced workers were directed into making a game that wouldn't run on the hardware it was intended for and he eventually took on a producer role and Yui Taninura took over as full director to try and turn the game into something playable and also deal with Namco asking them to make it more like Dark Souls 1, forcing a fundamental redesign of the game since it had a Zelda style overworld and dungeons rather than a DaS1 style world. The final version was made in just six months.
Andrew Miller
We could have gotten something great
Ethan Turner
You hit the nail on the head OP, I'm glad we got Bloodborne in the end though
Cameron Walker
The whole time I went through it, I couldn't help but feel like the game felt stitched together. A lot of the boss fights felt lazy, the game wasn't BAD, it certainly scratched the Dark Souls itch, but when comparing it to the rest of the series, it just doesn't stand up. Kind of like the Tyson's chicken nuggets you make at home, they're fine, you eat them, you walk away slightly content, but they just don't compare to some Wendy's chicken nuggies.
Carson Brown
Tanimura and his team knew what they were doing, they just got fucked over by Namco and the previous director. There's a reason Tanimura was personally requested by Miyazaki to act as co-director on Dark Souls 3.
Sebastian Scott
Agree but I wish the vials were cut in half. Holding 20 is way to much.
Joshua Miller
The changes in atmosphere walking from one area to the next are so jarring there could be a loading screen in between each and it wouldn't make any difference.
Would actually make more sense, since it could imply you traveled for a long time and thats when the area looks different.
It wouldn't be dark souls with loading screens though.
Michael Hill
Is it even a surprise it was rushed and half ass? It happened with DS1 and DS3. I like the series but for fuck sake it'd be nice if FromSoftware and Bandai Namco weren't such kikes and tried to get every penny they could.
Caleb Gomez
We got two great games instead of an amazing, industry changing game. I'm fine with that.
Thomas Peterson
I'm playing for the first time now.
Shadows of Yarnham Rom The One Reborn Hemlock Witch Logarius
All shit bosses. Why is this game praised as a 10/10 with so many bad boss fights?
Nolan Phillips
>Logarius What? He's solid as fuck.
Ethan Murphy
>Logarius >Shit Sounds like someone got stomped by him
Josiah Gray
Logarius was a tight fight you fuckin baddy, and Rom was neato.
Michael Brooks
I'll disagree on Rom. She's a pretty lazy fight, to be frank, and the only real challenge are the spiders you can't attack effectively from the front.
Caleb Wood
>Logarius >The One Reborn >Shadows of Yarnham
>shit
Joseph Brooks
Shadows of Yharnam is the best gank fight in the series and Logarius is an all-round fantastic boss.
Joshua Powell
Only Socialist Defend DaS2

>Question: Why was Dark Souls 2 so shitty?
NICE DAMAGE CONTROL
Dark Souls sold MORE copies than Bloodborne. >inb4 b-but BB was r-released only on one p-platform Well GOOD FUCKING JOB shooting in your own leg with muh exclusivity, retards. Caged garbage never sells as good as glorious multiplat games.
BUT there's also a possibility that MORE PEOPLE would see MORE ISSUES with the game instead of being mindless drones and fagboys of a single platform. GUESS WHAT: DaS 2 still sold MORE than BB and that only proves that people LIKED IT MORE.
GET FUCKED
Grayson Russell
t. socialist ironic shitposting is still shitposting. get out.

i dont think you know what a socialist is you fucking underage faggot
Gavin Collins
I don't waste my time with brain damaged retards like you anymore.

Robert Sanders
You are
Gavin Fisher
The idea that Bloodborne and DaS3 were good are also a shitty opinion.
Not to say that DaS3 wasn't patched to help sort some of these things out, however only the player versus player balance aspect. Armor matters now, which means points into Vitality are useful now, which means Quality builds aren't so dominating, which means we get to see a wider variety of weapons in the game. Strength weapons are useful because they can withstand attacks as they deal theirs, dexterity weapons are useful as they are lightweight and offer the equipment weight for either armor or shooting for the 30% breakpoint. Magic builds are still of a meme, but at least it's not just katanas and straightswords anymore.
That said, DaS3 is still linear garbage with quests that are almost impossible without a guide and little to no main-game replayability. DaS1, 2, and DeS had a plethora of ways to start, and all the NPC interaction was either meant to be a secret or quite clearly in front of you, no special conditions or things that broke them that could be done unwittingly.
Liam Cruz
>DaS1 >new and interesting
Nigga it was pretty much a rehash of DeS.
Sebastian Kelly
here's a truth for you: dark souls 2 is fun as soon as you stop expecting it to be a sequel and let it be its own game.
it's not perfect, it's flawed, but it's also a lot of fun. some people may not find it fun, but it shouldn't be in some sort of weird relationship, some forced hierarchy with other games that offer something else.
Levi Perez
The PVP of DaS3 is still pretty shitty. I've been dueling in the arena for some time now and it's always the same. You carry one greatsword to ensure 2 hits because no one can stop you due to the hyper armor and then you take out your straightsword and hit them once or twice and they die, sometimes using throwing knifes to kill them when they are just rolling. They did make the PVP a little bit better, but it's still pretty shitty. The PVE experience is just as you say. Linear and boring with barely any replayability
