Kaiba is really compelling if you can get past the strange art style.

Tatami Galaxy is excellent in every way, if you haven't seen it but like most of the rest of the list I greatly recommend you watch it.

Da fuq? The show is superior to the manga in every way, because it adds amazing color work, AMAZING ost, FUCKING AMAZING voice acting (the guy who voiced Johann in Monster voiced Irako in Shigurui) and is a true, 100% page-for-page adaptation that does not take away anything from the story.

The show also drops the second part of the story, which is total garbage. Seriously, the cliffhanger ending of the show is 10x better than the one we got in the manga.

The final confrontation between Irako and the main guy is pretty great, I can understand if you didnt like the surrounding stuff though

Shigurui all in all is about how that strict and violent society is nothing but soul crushing and wasteful

The reason the ending was dogshit is because Shigurui portrayed not only a clash of personalities, but also a clash of philisophies and approach to life. Fujiki represents traditional Japanese collectivism, while Irako represents individualism. The author then tries really hard not to play favorites and tries to portray both characters as being simply humans who are capable of both heroic deeds and horrible atrocities. Then, suddenly, the ending turns the entire previous approach on its fucking head and just goes: "lel, the collectivism guy was the good guy all along, LMAO".

It's fucking dogshit and is stands out drastically among the rest of the narrative.

In the case of Shigurui's narrative, Fujiki winning is not just Fujiki winning literally, it also represents the author's depiction of one philosophical concept being superior to the other. In a narrative where the author tried really hard not to play favorites, it comes off as jarring and completely out of place. This is the main with the ending, not the fact that Fujiki as a character won the fight physically.

I find a good rule of thumb is going to myanimelist and anything with a score rank significantly higher than its popularity rank is generally worth watching.
