>Esoteric/Non-conventional equals pretentious >Pretentious equals shit and should be mocked/ignored
Why are video game consumers like this? Some critics at least try to explore and praise non-conventional games, but then they themselves get mocked by the "gamers". Seems like the video game players are the thing holding the video game industry back.
>make bad game >give it some trite message >obscure the message in metaphor >faggot critics solve the metaphor and feel clever >10/10 very deep this game touched me
Julian Gray
because 100% of the time "esoteric" equals pretentious and 99% of the time non-conventional also equals pretentious
Matthew Ward
Inside really fits the "pretentious" label, though.
It just looks so fucking... French
Anthony Bell
it like being racist/classist against european gypsies. it's kinda wrong in principle but in practice it's justified 100% of the time because they're probably the only genuinenly shit society with shit moral values on all of earth.
i play a lot of games. of course mainstream stuff like inside but i probably check out at least two hundreds games or so a year. I've probably seen all 'artsy' games you can think of and I can remember exactly two out of the dozens of games of that kind that I've played where all of that (as you call it) esoteric/non-conventional stuff had even the slightest hint of merit.
just think about what the word pretentious means. it's used when someone says or does something with the self perception that it has some value, while it has none, and thus that person acts under a false pretense. all of these shitty indie games fit that definition in even in the literal sense.
Ryder Hill
and since you mention inside, that game in particular shows you nothing, makes you feel nothing, teaches you nothing you couldn't have experienced in a more straightforward manner that would have delivered it with orders of magnitude more in terms of effiency.
Nathan Peterson
>Esoteric that is actually commonplace >Non-conventional that is actually by the book
Almost all of the games your defending play the same the games that inspired them years ago like Another World or Myst and by extension any of the other contemporary games that are "esoteric" or "non-conventional"
Ryan Gonzalez
>Make Shadow of the Colossus >give it some trite message >obscure the message in metaphor >nobody gets it >10/10 the game was good anyway
Proved what? He says that everyone else likes it and he is too dumb to get it in the first 10 seconds of the video.
Adrian Smith
this. why didn't it have any cutscenes? i was stuck for ten minutes at the first puzzle cuz there wasnt anybutton prompts its so fucking sdutpid
Ryder Allen
>You just don't get it man!
how about you go fuck yourself?
Jacob Ramirez
He says he doesn't get it in the video you link, in the first 5 seconds, you fucking imbecile. He then proceeds to complain about "forced to wait" while the puzzle he is bitching about has you waiting 2 seconds (TWO SECONDS) for a light to go past. And of course complaining that a mechanic is first shown in a more safe space, then in a more advanced situation. Oh noes, why are puzzles repeated, I have literally never played a video game, please rape my face.
Robert Collins
Inside is one of my favorite games and idgaf, usually I hate walking sims but that game was magical and the puzzles and story flowed a lot better than Limbo
Tyler Lewis
Except Inside doesn't count cos the super whacky, mega-schlock, silly ending really pissed off the "rly makes u think" fags.
James Campbell
can someone please explain to me how journey is "deep" or "enjoyable?" because it was literally the most boring video game that i have ever played and i didn't see any fucking meaning in it whatsoever. however, everyone thinks it's on the level of tolstoy so someone please educate me
Bentley Hughes
He means he doesn't understand the sheer praise this shit heap gets, and explains it pretty well, I don't even know what the hell you mean about waiting either, the basic thesis for the puzzles are "they did this a lot better and cheaper with Limbo 6 years prior"
Same for the fucking "plot" which I don't even know if you can call it that, oh boy there's a giant blob, oh looks like the kid was being controlled, but who's controlling the controller? Is it you? Are you being controlled? Oh my god this is so fucking deep 10/10
Joshua Kelly
SotC was good for other reasons though, I never gave a single fuck about the overarching "story" It had neat visuals and fun gimmick as the core mechanic It was a thoroughly enjoyable experience
Jonathan King
it looks nothing like French you faggot. If I had to draw comparisons I-d say it looks more Sovietic than French, with that heavy ambiance and desolated cities.
Adam Lewis
Story doesn't matter Art doesn't matter Dialogue doesn't matter Writing doesn't matter Characterization doesn't matter
Its a video game. All that matters is the gameplay. If the gameplay is shit then the game gets a big target painted on it and all of the above will get attacked
And yes,'go right' is shit gameplay
Levi Rogers
Pretentious is a buzzword so insecure dumbdumbs don't have to face the fact that they're stupid. Fitting that it's so prevalent in a childish medium. Just look at the dumb kids in this thread posting fallacies with epic pepe memes.
William Adams
>fuck all the art put into the game, what matters is the score attack, because i wish i was 4 years old still
Bentley Rogers
shadow of the colosus was terrible. >Big ass empty world >press up to climb boss >YOU are the demon
fucking more pretentious than any indie game I've ever seen. and they had a few million dollar budget as well. The last guardian proves Team Ico is shit but nostalgia won't let anyone else see SotC for what it truly is. >boring
Dominic Gonzalez
I'm playing it with the emulator right now and I've got to say it's pretty neat senpai
Juan Russell
Sup Forums loves pretentious games. The release of Automata should've told you that.
Adam Wright
It's not a game then, it's an interactive experience akin to the choose your own path on the spy kids 3d movie. Go make your own board or fuck off to Sup Forums
Daniel Rogers
t. frog
It's not french as in the setting is in france, it's french as in the art style is french, it is overrated like french shit and it lacks substance like french shit.
Alexander Sullivan
If you think score attack is the only way to make a game with good gameplay, you are part of the problem and should off yourself.
Anthony Cox
Why does it change f.am to senpai? I really don't get it
Joshua Lewis
If you think that 200 APM is the only way to make a good game, you are the crux of the problem and should invest in a noose.
Jason Perry
More like >Sup Forums loves console games >Sup Forums loves japanese games >Sup Forums loves blatant fan service
Combine those for the perfect game, gameplay irrelevant.
