>persona 5 with its amazing jazz soundtrack
>nier automata music fits the atmosphere to a T
>even ff15 had an amazing ost
these are just examples of a few of the most recent games with amazing soundtracks, and guess what they're all japanese. why can't western developers make good OST's for their games? why is it always the japanese games that get praised for their amazing music?

Because Japanese developers make original games with original soundtracks, not cookie cutter bullshit with garbage orchestral music.
The West already invented music so I think it's okay for them to take a little rest.
The dragons trap has good tunes and I think the people that remade the soundtrack are all french

>b-but they're old so they don't count!!
Because you don't want to listen to western game OST's.
Well, duh. OP is talking about the current situation after all. Only indie devs have good OSTs in the west nowadays.
get out grandpa
>Metallica ripoff
>80s synth garbage
>sounds like something out of a kid cartoon
>derivative drum n' bass
>derivative space wank
>sounds like a shitty Disney song
>generic orchestral shit
>le ebin synth sounds
>more generic orchestral shit
Hit & Run was a lot better than it had any right to be.
>FFXV OST
>Amazing
Babbies first orchestral OST
>persona 5 with its amazing jazz soundtrack
you obviously dont listen to jazz
>nier automata music fits the atmosphere to a T
but it had a bad soundtrack
>even ff15 had an amazing ost
wtf? i cant even remember a single song from that game that wasnt a rehash of an older theme.
>nier automata had a bad soundtrack
No it didn't you fucking contrarian. Though I do agree the other two are mediocre at best.
>nier automata
>bad
composer puts in all the voices of the staff in the final music for one last amazing level

here are a few more examples of songs that made the levels they played in just so much more amazing:

p5 is literally a cookie cutter jrpg you weeaboo fuck.
>wtf? i cant even remember a single song from that game that wasnt a rehash of an older theme.
but they aren't bad rehashes though
>p5 is literally a cookie cutter jrpg you weeaboo fuck.
someone doesn't own a ps4 to play persona 5 on. feel sorry for you mate having to miss the best jrpg, heck even just rpg of these past few years
>>even ff15 had an amazing ost
The only good tracks were the ones composed by Shimomura which were LITERALLY all leftovers from Versus. Once Tabata took over he brought his composers on board and Shimomura was let go. 2/3 of the soundtrack are generic trash that doesn't fit the Final Fantasy spirit whatsoever and said 2/3 is by those new composers.
All the DLC also won't have any Shimomura music either. Have you even fucking heard how butchered Battle on the Big Bridge got raped?

If eastern vidya music is so good then why does a fat skeleton have a more popular theme song?
Checkmate kiddo.
>nice bait
Someone is incredibly wrong. I just got to the part where the nerd chick stopped medjed
amazing dynamic range
Lel faggot she IS medjed she stopped an imposter
FFXV was in desperate need of 1 or 2 more battle themes. Shit gets repetitive as fuck.
theres undertale. but pretty much every aaa western game just hires hans zimmer to do their music
>original games
a thousand keks
she founded medjed and other people took the name and she stopped being part of it.
you can't even keep track of the retard-level writing in this game.
>first seconds of Legacy of Kain
My memories.
what do u know, u just desvribed every jrpg soundtrack song-by-song
Because Jeremy Soule ruined Western video game music.
Undertale and Witcher 3 had pretty good OSTs
Even Memewatch has a couple memorable tracks
But yeah, I completely agree with you OP. Jap games have blown the fuck out of western games in terms of soundtrack and everything else recently.
>she founded medjed and other people took the name and she stopped being part of it.
That's what he said. You said she just stopped medjed without the context.
You can't even keep up with the writing in the conversation.
It's acid jazz you uncultured fuck
I agree with all of it except for NieR. Automata has a great OST that works extremely well within the game.
>Doom was awarded Best soundtrack of 2016
this is the dudebro industry now
yeah i agree with how bad the dlc songs are. seems like they wanted to go for some generic rock trash to appeal to a more western(?) audience. anyway it sucks, but i mean the main game had some decent songs:

I like it
he said she IS medjed, which is incorrect. she wasn't affiliated with them anymore, you stupid nip-lovers.
>Lel faggot she IS medjed she stopped an imposter
can't even lie right. damn your parents must be disappointed
So in other words it's not jazz at all.
haven't played gravity rush yet but damn that game has good music
Go to bed, Ken Burns.
>a sub-genre isn't still under the umbrella of the overall genre
I'm still waiting for any game's soundtrack to surpass Sonic 2006's.
For as shit as the game is, the music director is a fucking GOD.

But she is. Also, you said she quit being "part of it" which is wrong anyway if you want to play the semantics game.
It wasn't a group or movement, just a bunch of copycats she didn't bother with.
guys I have played a couple of persona and smt games now but I want to start new game+ for the first time now and I just completed the game. should I just load the completed save and play? should I skip and fast forward all cutscenes?
>implying music isn't an universal thing
>implying no other tribe used certain beats as a way of communication, relaxation, etc
>implying black people didn't create rock and jazz
>implying asian people didn't have their own form of music way before the west could even influence them through colonization.
ff15 god ost Lmao
only one song is good
Maybe it's time to stop play only ps4 game
youtube.com
Club jazz is still jazz but because of the r&b elements it's pretty far removed from what a lot of jazz purists would consider within the genre desu
It's not favorite but I do enjoy it, it's fun to move my tushie to it
the only song in the ost that surpasses any other sonic song is solaris phase 2. everything else is btfo by the console games that came after it
>Maybe it's time to stop play only ps4 game
i would if there were any good games coming to pc. the only game i recently wanted to play on my pc was nier automata, but didn't want to wait an additional three weeks for the game to get ported, so ps4 it is. my pc is pretty much an overwatch machine for now, with the occasional zero escape playthrough if i feel like it
ori and the blind forest is on pc too
what's your excuse?
PC still has 4x or grand strategy games
It's a shame devs are moving away from it though because it really gets discouraging when most games being released for your 2,500 dollar machine is an indie game
OST is one of the few things western developers do well
i'm playing tales of berseria now and while it has some decent tunes the soundtrack is overall straight garbage
lol it helps to know at least a little about music before complaining about it bud
love how detroit style techno is now '80s synth'
have more game is bad?
but no one has been playing in PCs for exclusives since 2010 though. PC gaming has always been about playing the supposed best version of multiplats. Don't kid yourself.
>it really gets discouraging when most games being released for your 2,500 dollar machine is an indie game
uhhh no it doesn't?
oh no, someone made a free game on itch, this negatively affects me somehow!
hell i put more time into the leaked alpha of my summer car than i have into any AAA game in the past few years

another game you don't heard about i guess
>only good western games are ones born from nostalgia
Nostalgia is almost always misconstructed memories, by that I mean fake memories created by the mind to cope with shitty reality. Which is basically what the current western games development is at. Utter garbage.
It's flu season but the reaper just doesn't want to spawn with despair. Is there something specific I must do?
>Crusader
My dark skin brother!
What? Not even close nigga
A lot of people have made the observation that Western video game music tend to be like movie scores. It's meant to take a backseat to what's going on visually and not be too distracting. Nips tend to compose by the philosophy of "make music that would be good on its own".
Just Cause 3 has nice OST
...
Forgot about this one, actually
what about soundtracks for japanese games that are mostly done by western artists?
youtube.com
lol PSX games have such insanely good music it makes modern games sound like utter shit
the entirety of the daggerfall soundtrack is great and really helps set the games atmosphere.
youtube.com
>Literally a cookie cutter jrpg
I mean, I haven't played it yet, but it's pretty cool to play as a baker?
Nier and P5 are cookiecutter as fuck
Halo and Mass Effect are good examples of this. Without the music the games would feel dead, but the soundtracks were general completely unmemorable.
Because the OST is an afterthought in western development.
>The West tends to fall back on generic movie style pieces, while Japan goes for music that sets the tone and is memorable on its own
>lol faggot
Why are you being your own strawman post?
Devs aren't moving away from it, we're seeing more and more "console" games getting a PC release.
I don't mind indie games either, they constitute most of my playtime for a quarter of the price I'd pay for a AAA game, which are mostly garbage outside of the couple decent ones like TW3, DaS3, Dishonored, Nier and such.
I'd probably enjoy a console but I don't see the point in shelling 300€(?) for the 2 games a year I'd like to play.
Nox has one of the more underrated soundtracks.

Post the vidya music you are listening to RIGHT NOW:
The guy from SMB and Necrodancer is a god.
>murica
>inventions
>west only means the USA
If music is an universal thing why is all music outside of the West hot garbage?
Rock and jazz only came to be when blacks found Western instrumentation and scales.
Asian music is so shit that nowadays asian countries are completely focused on Western art music, to the point where they dominate the competitions.
>That version of Battle on the big bridge
Fucking terrible. Way to turn a 10/10 theme into a generic "epic chorus" shit.
yeah a lot of great ost can be done by western artists take ffxv stand by me cover or all of metal gear rising, but at the end of the day its still a japanese game, made by japanese people, with a japanese person choosing the music
I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you're not a massive fucking retard living on government handouts.
I know i'm stretching it but oh well.
this made me giggle somehow, good job user
p5 ost is dull as fuck.
youtube.com
Sunless Sea had a goat soundtrack but it's stressful even just listening to it.
West is creatively dead.
>fucking coils of light
>not just the original theme
youtube.com
ffs user get some taste
Because most Western developers don't give a rats ass about the OST. With few exceptions fairly recently, they've largely been circlejerk attempts to imitate each other, or sequels of existing titles they can make a safe buck on. For the most part, Western devs only care about graphics and/or multiplayer.
