That's why I use push to talk. Annoying people with belches, intentionally loud sipping and other such noises is funny, the distant rattle of a keyboard just loud enough to activate the mic or the buffeting of someone's mouth breathing is just tiresome.

Any VOIP worth its salt has a mic threshold option when using open mic. That's what I use.

The threshold only helps so much. In my experience, more often than not the threshold users haven't actually set up their mic properly (not only levels, but the placement as well) and it just picks up fucking everything as a result, and the errant noises of the mic brushing against something or the user's bodily functions are always going to come through regardless. I like push-to-talk because I can actually do whatever I want without broadcasting it to everyone in the channel, and I can just set the mic gain so it sounds decent and just forget about it.

In any case, anyone using the integrated laptop mic and not having the fucking thing muted when not speaking should just be killed.
