Which makes more sense?

Which makes more sense?

letters, altho shapes look nicer

clockwise starting at 12 o'clock position: X A B Y

...

Why?

Letters both make more sense and look nicer, though the symbols do work too once you spend like twenty minutes actively memorizing them

I find it shapes worked better for me in quick time events

...

so the SNES layout?

PFHAHAHAHAHA

...

because if you want to discuss a combo what's easier to type:

a a a y
or square square square triangle

They should just use numbers and not fuck with this mumbo jumbo bullshit. "Button one, button two, button three, button four".

Not in this pictured order though.

You use P and K instead

Numbers, easier to type because they're right next to each other on the keyboard :^)

Triangle=Map
Square=Inventory
Circle=Yes
Forks=No

they should name the buttons clockwise starting at 12 o'clock position: 12 3 6 9

that would be intuitive as hell

>Forks

it should be 12 buttons anyway, with a ring of 60 little buttons inside

I hate shitters that get buttons mixed up
>hit r1 man
>hits r2
>hit X bro
>hits square
HOW FUCKING HARD IS IT TO MEMORIZE THIS SHIT?

>Forks

it's called either "X" or "Cross"

That would be horrible and lead to subconscious assumptions about certain buttons being priorities over others. There's a reason it's A B X Y and not A B C D

>forks
the button is called jesus, alright? fuckin' a*shole.

not everyone grew up as a Sonybro

>put a movie on my PS4 for my folks one night
>trying to teach them how to use the controller
>"Why does X mean play? Doesn't O mean correct?"
ABXY is the comfiest color scheme too.

neither, their design is arbitrary and based on past poorly thought out designs for children over 2 decades ago.

Someone please prove me otherwise.

Not in an age where half the population under 25 don't know how to read a clockface.

0 means you didn't get a single thing right. Like your parents with you.

I'm only fine with with because I've played with both a lot, but I know a lot of people get confused. I just say the button in relation to what controller they usually use and that seems to work.

Educate yourself

This
I played so much SNES as a youngling that playing xbox upsets me... its like when you get a chinese knock-off product.

shapes are just way 'cooler' and more 'gamey'

i think overall the playstation get pretty much everything right as far as marketing

the shape of the console, the dualshock, even the fucking name

PLAY
STATION

it's a super archetypal, almost generic name. i can definitely imagine a world where the only console to ever exist is a PlayStation and that's just what they say, not 'game console' but 'playstation'. like what they do with 'band-aids' and so forth

the shapes are definitely better imo

Ever wish we had six face buttons instead of four?

>O and 0 are the same
American education

delet this

nah, bumpers are better

>That would be horrible and lead to subconscious assumptions about certain buttons being priorities over others

Certain buttons already have priority over others. The leftmost button is always the most important button, because that's where your thumb naturally rests.

literally the most brainwashed sony drone thing I've ever seen on Sup Forums

I FUCKING HATE THAT GOD DAMN PIECE OF SHIT XBOX CONTROLLER AND EVERY ITERATION OF IT SINCE CONCEPTION. IT'S A GOD DAMN INSULT TO COMMON SENSE.

THE MENU IS ON THE LEFT HAND SIDE OF THE SCREEN. YOU PRESS 'A' TO BRING IT OUT FROM THE LEFT SIDE OF THE SCREEN. TO COLLAPSE THE WINDOWS/MENUS TO THE LEFT, YOU PRESS THE FUCKING 'B' BUTTON WHICH MAKES COMPLETE SENSE BECAUSE IT IS TO THE LEFT OF THE BUTTON YOU USE TO SELECT AND IT'S ALSO TOWARDS THE AREA WHERE THE MENU IS. THIS FUCKING NIGGER HORSE COCK CRACK CUNT SHIT OF 'PRESS THE BIG FUCKING GREEN BUTTON' TO BRING MENUS OUT AND WHATEVER THE SHIT TO PUT MENUS BACK BECAUSE WE'RE STUPID FUCKING CUNTS I HATE THEM. I HATE THEM.

I didn't either. I'm just not fucking retarded. Toddlers can solve this, why can't you?

no

Why not both?

well pronouncing the letters takes less time (in my language). saying "B" takes less time than saying "circulo"

Why not both?

No, because if we had six face buttons on every controller, developers would try to shoehorn six different functions into those just to not have awkward "extra" buttons.

I haven't touched a PS since 04 but when I got a PS4 I had no problem with the button layout after years and years of playing an Xbox.

it was only ever relevant for capcom style fighting games. 4 is superior for everything else.

i don't even own a ps4

actually i have a bit of a similar sentiment with the gamecube, except their controller is cancer and despite having some great titles, the PS2 is the indisputed king of that generation and all generations (PC notwithstanding)

Looks like a toy, and the purple launch colour of the controller definitely didn't help. But this is still the most comfortable and natural-feeling controller I've ever used, somehow.

Neither. They're buttons. They don't "make sense".

R1, R2, L1 and L2 always fuck me up

letters/numbers, so you can post on the internet about combos and shit

I hate jap games that have circle as accept. Circle should be cancel

Hat=Map
Box=Inventory
Bowl=Yes
Chopsticks=No

the only one that objectively makes sense it the """"dpad"""" on the switch

This

R1 R2 and RT RB fuck me up because I'm used to dualshock and RT RB makes me think of right top, right bottom

There, now no one wins.

>RT RB makes me think of right top, right bottom
I never thought of it that way

I'm used to DualShock too but I never thought of it that way. The only thing that screws me up is the face button because on Nintendo stuff it's just the X and Y switched, it throws me off at times to the point I have to look down at the controller like a goddamn old person.

All of the above.

I've never seen six face buttons work out well. Sure, you could play Street Fighter on it, except that would require putting the controller in your lap in order to press them all easily. That's not a good way of handling it.

N64 probably did it best since the C-buttons were effectively another d-pad, and were pretty much used for that. I don't recall a game which treated the C-buttons like a normal button. (Zelda just used them for inventory items, a bit of a different function.)

Get your ching chong translation out of here.

I'm playing the Cemu emulator with a PS4 controller and the layout is so damn confusing. I just have to remember the buttons or get fucked.
I'm glad BotW shows the 4 button layout on the screen so I know which direction the button is in.

I'd always assumed they were named RS and RT. (Right Shoulder, Right Trigger)

Wouldn't RS mean RIght Stick?

...

Both

RS is R3

It doesn't matter. I don't even think of the letters or shapes when playing. That's why I never bothered to install PS4 button prompt mods even though I use a DS4 instead of an Xbone controller on PC. I see X/A and I just think of "the bottom button".

game cube controller is shit, fuck off nostalgiafag

Same thing, and same problem with the Dreamcast.

this

A B X Y are actually consistent, thus making more sense.

Triangle, square and cross are not letters

How can anyone seriously like how the xbox controller looks? It's huge just like the xbox and looks fat, ungainly, and disproportionate. Like you can just imagine a pair of pudgy clumsy hands grasping at it just looking at it.

Dreamcast controller had more problems than that. Much more.

Why?

Better?

It's a great controller. Unless you're a handlet

WHAT HAVE YOU DONE

Japanese games using Circle as accept would make a ton more sense if they sold this controller in Japan

BUT THIS IS STILL WRONG, WHAT HAVE YOU DONE

I find that since A and B are so similar, I get them confused and at times am not sure (with impulse/muscle memory) which is the right button and which is the left button. I have no trouble remembering A vs X though.

...

A mother fucker. It seems to me at least the Xbox controller is designed around our association with the alphabet, what the fuck is supposed to make me think an X is something like the jump button over a triangle??

I'll tell you what doesn't make sense: mounting the buttons on a flat, glossy surface

left: looks like a work of artistic design
right: looks like an unfinished prototype

I just really can't understand how the ps4 controller exists. Aesthetically revolting and inferior in function to the past versions.

I still get circle and square mixed up on playstation controllers
I dunno why, maybe because they are a similar color

Don't buy that version then

Are you out of touch with reality? Gloss is usually used to indicate class, like really fucking nice cars being glossy as possible. I mean I dont prefer it ebcause it gets really dirty but I at least see the intent.

bro the buttons are still mounted on a flat glossy surface.

It doesn't have the cross shape the old controllres did...it looks horrible and looks like a prototype and someone should be fired for it being the final design. they've lost tens of thousands of sales over the controller as the only deciding factor

he's going to reply complaining about something else

>inferior in function to the past versions
PS4 controller is the best one so far.

Still the most comfortable controller ever

>Gloss is usually used to indicate class

Not on things you handle, in which it is used to indicate poor design.

See also the "piano black" ps3 which looked awful because it was coated in visible dust in 10 minutes. Someone high up at sony has a gloss boner and it is from the fucking 70s or 80s. It looks horrible.

But the flat surface? To have the buttons mounted flat whereas the xbox controller is curved, just looks like your competitor out-engineered and out-designed you for a product that sells for the same price.

Possibly playing with the same button setup since the mid-90's.

Xbox, because it has a Y button and when like people in a game would be like asking you a question and then you would be like Y

>inverted nintendo buttons
I'll pass

This is one sad Sony cuck. I bet your favorite game growing up was GTA

...

Which isn't saying much because the Dual shock line is terrible. I'm sure 8 year old me would be fine with it though

I cringed.

>not liking the cross, box, loop and pyramid buttons
HURRRRR DURRRR I'M TOO STUPID TO KNOW MY SHAPES I NEED DA WETTERS OF DA ALPHABET
