The LOTR movies at least got longswords right.

The LOTR movies got a lot of things right. Except Legolas, fuck everything about him.
I like how ridiculous Legolas is though.

Name one (1) game where this is the case
>muskets deal more damage than greatswords
>knives deal more damage than automatic weapons
Dark Souls
Are you fucking kidding me?
Its both actually. A long sword was also called a hand-and-a-half sword because it was long enough to be wielded on two hands while also having the option for one handed wielding in case you have a shield. That said, you would be better off with a norman broadsword or a french arming sword. The long swords we keep seeing in games and movies are actually broadswords. Long swords have distinct hilt that seperates them from other swords.
The first one is correct though, whatever you might think, you can't just cleave a dude in two with a greatsword, especially not an, even if just lightly, armored dude.
And fuck off I don't want to hear about the circumstances where a greatsword can kill a man instantly, a musket has a few of those too.
Greatswords should deal more damage than a tiny bullet. Muskets should have armour piercing and better crits for when they actually hit a critical area.
Even if you are right, that was a terrible choice of picture to go with your post.
