what if I want to talk about bomberman instead?
Fine too
>Silent Hill has fallen to the Konami curse
>Toyama doesn't care about Forbidden Siren anymore, opting to instead make inFamous with waifus
Where did it all go so wrong?
That's less tragic than the main writer having to make girly phone games
well then I'll say that magnet bomber is the best and ask where you think Konami will be taking the series now that R was a success. and could R's success lead to other revivals too?
People getting their panties in a twist over this don't realize Pyramid Head has been the guest character mascot since way before they killed Silent Hill.
>Kojima gets told to fuck off
>Konami starts doing good again
Need the ISOs please
But that's Homecoming Pyramid Head
Everything after 4 can eat a shit and that's after 4
To be specific, it's Homecoming/Movie PH helmet but the outfit is from classic PH so it's like a combination of both.
Silent Hill, huh? I never played the actual games, they looked mad gay.
I only played the arcade one, it's pretty fun.
>they looked mad gay.
are you literally 10?
>I only played the arcade one, it's pretty fun.
a generic HotD clone can be fun, but dress it up in a SH costume, and it's blasphemy.
If you actually get an itch for superb, beautiful survival horror experiences, you can get the original quadrilogy (the only games that matter) for your PC. Follow this SH PC Guide to get the ports run and look nice on modern machines, here's the DL links:

Mount the ISOs of 2 & 3, and then run their installers like always.
The SH1 is a PS1 rip that you gotta emulate.
The "sh2proxy" is a all-in-one fix, that works as a no-cd crack as well. It is included in the pack.
If you use the NEW fix mentioned in the guide, you can use the sh2proxy's EXE as the no-cd crack!
In case you experience issues saving the game / not being able to edit the disp.ini, make sure the files aren't set to "Read Only", and run the game as Administrator.
If SH2 gets stuck in a black screen upon launch, close it and re-start it again.
SH2-4 do not support Xinput gamepads. Either use Xpadder, a DirectInput pad, or just play with KB+M.
You can now see some decent emulator settings for SH1 as well in the guide. If the image of the game does NOT fill your entire screen in fullscreen mode, check your plugin AND GPU control panel's image scaling settings!
Also give the new PGXP emulator a shot for a lot less wobbly PS1 graphics.
CUTE HEAD
the post- SH4 games are mighty gay and miss the point completely. They tend to also be fugly and buggy as hell too.
Sure, you're right.
I just wanna say flat-front crimson pyramid is best. Edge-front steel helmet is not as good.
how are you so easily baited copypastafag
we SH fags don't fool around.
ruse
They were at there best when they did their own thing.
If Silent Hill Downpour was just another bug riddled eastern European game it would have been better received. Attaching franchise hurt it.
The flesh detail under his helmet is very unnerving.
Sorry to disappoint, but that outfit is non-canonical. He didn't have buttons in SH2, nor was he fit. His gloves/fingers also melded together.
gr8 b8 m8 etc
You've been baited, but thanks for taking the time to post this and especially the links.
Disagree, I find it looks like bubble tea bubbles.
true, but especially DP was also horribly buck POS running on UE3. Had it not been a "SH game", I wouldn't have been surprised to see it on Steam's greenlight.
On the flip side, SH:SM in my opinion used the SH-connections cleverly, and made the whole experience actually unique and memorable.
No shit the outfit's non-canonical, if you wanna get super technical then the helmet also isn't perfectly accurate to the Homecoming/Movie design either. The point is that the outfit is a combination of both while being neither so you can't dismiss it as "oh that's just Homecoming PH" because Pyramid Head is still the mascot regardless of the details of his outfit.
You argued for it being the old outfit, it just isn't.
The original argument that the design had to have been after the movie/homecoming also still stands, since that hat design came with these.
I'm a monster/character designer, of course I get anal about details like that.
Just googled what that was, and nope, still very unnerving!
I argued that it represents the old outfit by virtue of not being shirtless with the long leather dress that Homecoming/Movie PH has, which is why I didn't bother pointing out the incorrect shape and lack of bolts on the helmet because IT'S A CHIBI ART STYLE OF COURSE THEY'RE NOT GONNA BE SPECIFIC WITH THE DETAILS
I appreciate being anal with details but it causes you to lose sight of what people are ACTUALLY talking about. The outfit incorporates elements and you'd be legit retarded to not recognize that, my argument still stands that Pyramid Head is the mascot regardless of what "version" they use of him.
Dude, chill. I'm not the same guy you had this entire conversation with, I just chimed in and pointed out the differences. We've been talking for one or two posts each, I'd argue. I really only pointed it out because I'm anal about details and these are details pertaining to my work.
That's what I've been talking about, I have nothing to do with the mascot discussion.
I agree he is the mascot, actually. Just seems from the designs he got to that position after the movie and I'm not happy with him being a mascot, but it is how it is.
That's fine, I know you're not the same guy as before. I'm getting in your grill because you said
>The original argument that the design had to have been after the movie/homecoming also still stands
But that's not what the original argument was, the original argument was
>But that's Homecoming Pyramid Head
As a dismissive statement, dismissing my prior idea that PH is the mascot. So I'm just making it clear that my refutation still stands since what you said contradicts what has been discussed.
I totally respect pointing out details like that but since you yourself said you aren't part of the mascot discussion, you shouldn't weigh into that part of the discussion.
Sure, I mean I agree he's a mascot, just that I think that's a shit move. I do however disagree that the mascot version you've shown could have existed before the movie, becaues how the fuck would they have used that helmet then? But it's nitpicky miscommunication. I've got no beef with you, let's let this rest.
Except one thing:
>IT'S A CHIBI ART STYLE OF COURSE THEY'RE NOT GONNA BE SPECIFIC WITH THE DETAILS
is bullshit. They added more details than the original design, which goes absolutely against your point here, since usually chibi reduces details. To prove that point and end this I'll request you to wait a few more minutes till I finish this thing I'm working on.
>I do however disagree that the mascot version you've shown could have existed before the movie
I've never even implied that, I said that the outfit had elements of both versions of PH. You really misinterpreted what I was trying to say here.
I'm going to choose to stand by my "chibi=less detail" though by adding one caveat: it's less detailed in-game. While I don't have any high-res screenshots so you'll have to take my word for it, the image you're nitpicking over is concept art. The in-game model on the Nintendo DS is much less detailed, which is also why the lack of bolts bolts and shape of the helmet are not accurate to Homecoming/Movie PH (because ain't nobody got time to model that on a shitty DS game). They added defined buttons and such to the smock because they're not gonna do the messed up dirty textures on the DS without it looking like garbage.
Again, the point is that his body is wearing a butcher smock that goes up to his knees-ish and shows his boots and he's wearing gloves. In broad strokes, these are all big features that are not on Homecoming/Movie PH (who is shirtless without gloves and wears a long dark skirt that starts at the waist and goes down covering his bare feet). The head represents modern (at the time) PH and the body represents classic PH, even though they are not exact.
>I've never even implied that, I said that the outfit had elements of both versions of PH. You really misinterpreted what I was trying to say here.
I feel that this point has been made by someone else and you argued against it, thus why I guess this is all just miscommunication.
My point with the details on the chibi is that the original design would actually have been easier to implement/ that they added "original" details even though that stands against the point of chibis not being exact because they're reduced. I don't think that conept art is of too high quality because of some things that were disregarded without it being technically feasible- why add seperate fingers if he had globby hands before, for example. That's just no good translation of a character's design. I disagree heavily on dirty textures on the DS as well by virtue of having experience doing dirty textures for tiny objects, might they be 3D or pixel art.
>act like a retard
>fuck off retard
>lmao baited
>why add seperate fingers if he had globby hands before, for example
Three reasons
1. You could argue that he never explicitly had globby hands and that was just because they got lazy modelling his hands when the point of the entire game is that stuff is supposed to be unclear and muddy. This official licensed statue has fingers and a muscular frame, for example. They didn't put muscles on PS2 Pyramid Head because he didn't need it, it wouldn't have fit the aesthetic of the game and it probably wouldn't have looked very good with the graphics they had at the time.
2. ART STYLE. ART. STYLE. It's not just chibi, it's also bright colorful and cartoony. It's why he has clearly defined black buttons and such on his smock and why he has normal healthy human skin and isn't weird and shiny, why can't you understand this? He was also redesigned to be consistent with the rest of the characters in the game who are all cartoony, colorful and clean with clear details.
3. Again, YOU ARE NITPICKING CONCEPT ART FOR A DS GAME. He may as well have blobby hands in the actual game. Yes you could do dirty and grimy textures on a small model at low resolution but then he would look even more out of place with the crisp and clean cartoon characters than he already is, and consistent art direction is important. Something you, as a supposed "designer", should understand.
Dude, I was just arguing for why -I- don't like the design, and that I'm miffed a character like this even turned into a mascot. As a designer, I feel it unnecessary and money-grubbing to put horror characters in non-horror contexts, as it will unarguably over time (the brighter and friendlier the context, the quicker) ruin at least part of the horror. I accept the reality that he's in other games as a mascot, but that doesn't mean that I need to like it. Muscular PH doesn't speak to me, I prefer him without real fingers for it distorts his humanoid form even more, and don't like how konami treat their intellectual properties anyway. I believe there shouldn't be mascot characters in horror because it's antithetical to what makes them scary and somewhat lacking in respect. Doesn't mean I can change it now, and if I ever get in a position where I can, I will.
We aren't even having an argument, we're just talking different issues with the same thing.
Here, look at this. In-game every character has a modeled thumb and index finger because they need that for certain animations involving certain events, the rest of their hand is indistinct and blobby because IT'S A DS GAME.
>Dude, I was just arguing for why -I- don't like the design,
No you weren't, or you didn't make it clear
>They added more details than the original design, which goes absolutely against your point here, since usually chibi reduces details
Is what you said. You're arguing that the new design added details which is nonsensical (with my DEFINED CAVEAT that I'm talking about how it looks like in the game). The only detail you actually mentioned is the non-globby hands and that's actually a point in my favor, they REMOVED the trait of the globby hands in favor of making them standard and generic with the rest of the characters.
>My point with the details on the chibi is that the original design would actually have been easier to implement
On a technical level yes, because all you're doing is changing the textures. I would disagree since you didn't specify though, because the design you drew is out of line with the the art style due to the muddied and soft shading.
So I disagree with your point that the chibi design "adds" details. The helmet is missing bolts and the shape has been simplified to work with the generic animations and require fewer polygons. The other small details simplify the design to fit with the art style of the game. You bringing up how you don't like a horror character in a non-horror context is the first time you've brought it up and comes out of nowhere, please focus your arguments in the future and don't constantly move goalposts. We're talking different issues because you keep changing what you're "supposedly" talking about.
Since you brought it up, I agree that cartoon PH looks shit and they did a shit job at redesigning him. Robbie was meant to be the mascot anyway.
Since we're being anal I'll make a clarification, you did mention not liking him as a mascot.
>I agree he is the mascot, actually. Just seems from the designs he got to that position after the movie and I'm not happy with him being a mascot, but it is how it is.
Though it wasn't part of what you were arguing for with chibi and design details, you weren't really clear about it.
Don't be mad, I'm just having fun
