What do you think about Tropical Freeze? It's the best platformer of the decade, right?
You have no excuses to not play it since Cemu runs it flawless.

i tried to play it and dk and the enemies were invisible, so no, I can't play it for now.
Returns was better, but I quite enjoyed TF while I wasn't struggling with the shitty underwater controls. I can't wait for the 3rd installment.
It's pretty god-damn amazing. Just the return of David Wise alone makes it god-tier.
Posting real best track, get those overrated Busted Bayous and Grassland Grooves outta here

>Returns was better
fucking how?
I have already beaten the game on Cemu but the later special levels were all pretty shitty since they were mostly about remembering hazards to get trough the level.
I don't know why, but I could never get myself to finish it. Like I love me my platformers and the game is excellent, it has nice environments, gameplay, music and level design but I just kept stop playing it.
was it too hard for your or something?
finish that shit
nah, this is the true best track:

It's worse than the old DKC games, that's for sure. They were so fucking lazy with the animals and the bonus banana stages, it's not even funny anymore. The modern DKC games have so much less variety than the old ones.
>was it too hard for your or something?
Nah, I don't mind difficulty whether they're super easy or super hard in games and hell it's a breath of fresh air since I find platformers to be a breeze usually but I just couldn't get myself to finish it. I guess I'll get back to it some time this week, I gotta finish this other game I've been playing at the moment though.
You're crazy. Literally every level in TF has at least some unique asset or platforming gimmick.
Same for me, I guess it just didn't hold my interest enough and other games kept coming out so I eventually dropped it. And I had just finished playing Returns 3D, so that may be another reason.
>returns was better
DKTF is honestly on par with DKC2, really my only complaint with DKTF is it has slightly too many cutscenes-like segments during gameplay (e.g. watching the kongs fly through a few barrels to the next area) - but these are few and far between, as well as only a few seconds long when they show up.

>tfw playing Bopopolis for the first time
such a satisfying level
>It's worse than the old DKC games, that's for sure
this meme again
it's far better than anything rare ever shat out
The gimmicks don't play that different though. Also it really hurt the game how there is only type of animal and the bonus rooms are all generic. Not even Enguarde in the water levels was pathetic to say the least. It has more consistent level quality and better bosses but that's it.
>Cemu runs it flawless
from start to finish? doubt it
In the final world right now and I love it though I still enjoyed DKC2 more
Is it me or are the Kings supposed to be like Rednecks or Hillbillies? Anyone else get that vibe?
Most, if not all, of the animal buddies are honestly redundant in the newer DKC games - I didn't miss any of them.
>The gimmicks don't play that different though
What do you even mean by that?
No way fag. Returns' rocket barrel levels were way more trial and error bullshit than the ones in Tropical Freeze.
>The gimmicks don't play that different though.
That's just completely untrue.
I'll admit the bonus levels are lame but as far as the animals it just seems like you like the way they look rather than caring about their fuction. The Kongs have a really strong moveset in this game that makes the buddies mostly unnecessary. Squitter's okay I guess.
What replaces the parrot levels or the rattlesnake levels? Fucking nothing. And don't tell me those levels weren't fun as fuck, mate. Fucking tired of people starting to shit all over the place just to put their favorite game in the spotlight.
>What do you even mean by that?
Well there was only like two type of levels. The basic ones and the ones where shit hits the fan and you need to be quick to survive. DKC2 had way more concepts than that even looking past all the variety the more animal brought like the honey levels.
DKC Tropical Freeze also had surprisngly generic settings, I don't know why they came up with this fruit and winter setting. I really love when platformers do really original settings like the carnivall in DKC2.
Definitely one of the best platformers I've ever played. I don't know how Retro can top this masterpiece
well don't ask them to because the metroid fans are gonna get really butthurt if they're making a third one
You could only select the kongs after basically finishing the game 100% so there was barely a point to them. With DK the moveset isn't that much different, cranky is unique but DIddie and Dixie is just a variety of extending jumps.
>Well there was only like two type of levels.
but that's wrong, you fucking faggot. Almost every level in DKTF has a new mechanic introduced, and on top of that you have different types of levels altogether to further aid the variety in the game (such as rocket barrel, minecart, boat, runner-style, and rambi levels just to name a few)
actual best track comin through

fite me
>You could only select the kongs after basically finishing the game 100% so there was barely a point to them.
Irrelevant considering you can still use the powers when they team with DK.
>DIddie and Dixie is just a variety of extending jumps.
It's a jumping game, so I welcome changes to my jumps. Squawks is just an eternal hover, and Rattly is a charged superjump. That the Kong ability's can be used along with the momentum makes them a lot more versatile.
What fucking mechanic, mate? Sometimes they were so barebones like just using balloons filled with water to extinguish fire. Rambi levels were absolute shit. They should have used the boat more though, I liked it.
Squawks and Ratty are not generic animals, they're used in levels specifically designed for their powers. On the other hand, using Kongs like Dixie in TF completely breaks the game sometimes since the jumps are really overpowered.
Just off the top of my head: the beehive-themed level has bees you grab that gradually lower to the ground unless you keep punching them upwards, it also has swinging grabbable beehives some that detach, leading you to quickly jump to the next platform); the giant air horns in one of the levels in island 2 (especially the final section of this level where a gust of wind through a huge horn pulls you upwards periodically); the flowers that have a wide swing as you go near their edge (and the petals will collapse after a short time), which only appear in a single level; the chests+keys in that secret water level; etc.
Also, care to explain why you think rambi levels were shit?
Yeah, the act of putting out water with fire is simple. Duh. But that's not even the only thing going on in that level. It also has those heated platforms, the trees whose platforms burn up and the dropping fireballs, all of which are introduced, built up and combined. Nothing barebones about it.
I'd really like to know what your favorites levels in the original trilogy were because I'm just getting the impression you like variety for the sake of it over consistent, solid design.
I didn't like Rambi in the original too. He is mostly used in this kind of levels where you need to keep at top speed and jump occasionally. He is invincible against all enemy obstacles so if you play him the correct way the levels become really easy.
Yeah it was pretty good.
the levels that involve rambi are more about environmental hazards (like pits, fire, lava, tornadoes, storms, etc.) rather than enemies.
DKC2 was just a box full of fun levels that surprised you almost every level with some cool shit and they really didn't care if they fundamentally changed the gameplay. DKCTF gimmicks are toned down for the sake of keeping the platforming completely intact, well except for those weird sequence jump levels. I just vastly prefer the freshness of the DKC2 level design instead of a more solid platforming experience.
Okay, that's cool. Still wanna know your favorite levels.
I have shitty memory so I could only name the levels after replaying the game.
Great soundtrack. Gameplay feels like shit compared to the SNES games though.
