Torvus Bog is pretty good as well, shame the Agon Wastes kinda suck, but yeh I think pretty much everyone agrees Sanctuary Fortress was the best.
pic related was honestly the single best boss battle in all of metroid, damn near perfect, only flaw is it dropped to much health

I hated how you have to get past those floating ball enemies in one of the central areas. And you have to wait until you can hit their weakness. Otherwise yeah great area.

dark world was to long and to easy
it didn't feel near dangerous enough
I'd have significantly reduced the length of the dark world sections, however within the dark world there is NO form of recovery and unlike everywhere else, enemies respawn constantly
so every time you go into the dark world you feel like the entire place is out to kill you and if there's any puzzles, part of said puzzle is "how do I solve it without dying horribly"
