Why do people shit on the Wii U when it had the best selection of beat em ups (Bayonetta 1 and 2, Devil's Third, NG3, and W101) and platformers (Mario, Yoshi, DK, Kirby) for this gen as well as some decent rpgs and fighting games.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. As crazy as it is to say, it seems like people failed Wii U and not the other way around. For some time, it truly did have more and better received exclusives than the competition, but no one seemed to give a shit. It's sad.
it's marketing was so bad that people didn't care. On Sup Forums, that equated to many anons being confused over why some were raving about its games for a while.
If the Switch's success so far has proven anything, it's that marketing is everything these days - the games don't actually matter at all. Heck, even the PS4 sold like hotcakes at launch despite having fucking nothing worth playing for well over a year.
I'm not shitting on the games. I'm shitting on the console itself. Everything about how the console and pad work is a disaster. Only thing good about the Wii U was the games.
What was wrong with the hardware itself? Loaded games quite quickly without the need for installs, used generic external storage for expansion when you needed, and has native full hardware BC, and systemwide overscan compensation.
not him, but the Wii U's OS is rather slow, and the gamepad (whilst I personally have no qualms over it) is bulky, somewhat heavy, and redundant in a lot of games on the system. The integration of the gamepad in general seemed half-baked to me.
Switch does have Zelda though, and it's important since not a ton of people owned a wii u.
People could still get a wii u for zelda, though I understand that it ain't easy acquiring a wii u at any reasonable price these days. Still, it's ridiculous to me that so many are buying a switch for 1 game.
Probably expecting future games, and this is actually good kinda, since it's selling more games should come to it.
Well yeah, but my point still stands that the marketing is what's important first and foremost.
Because its Nintendo and Neo-Sup Forums is a bunch of sonyfags and console war trolls.
Nintendo really failed it as you could see how they're handling the Switch with a huge ad campaign showing off every damn game they can and what you can do with the system but they still can't get a good first year release schedule
True, and they certainly have gotten people to know about it. I know a ton of normies and casuals who bought one or are looking to get one.
>(Bayonetta 1 and 2, Devil's Third, NG3, and W101)
I give Bayo 1 and 2 but if you think the others are good beat'em ups then you must be more delusional than your post suggests
Yep, my normie friend doesn't even know what a Wii U is yet has just bought a Switch to exclusively play BotW.
I still say that for Nintendo fans, a Wii U is still a must have simply because it can play over 97 percent of every NES, SNES, N64, GCN, Wii, Wii U, GB, GBC, GBA, and DS game ever made.
Ha, more like Devil's TURD
Yet the WiiU was a huge fuck you to Nintendo fans
It's good dude. Basically the God Hand of this gen.
how?
>Basically the God Hand of this gen
Except GodHand was good when you actually played it and IGN put it on its top PS2 games list despite the score, DT is not fun and the only list it belongs to is on the "worst games of this generation"
Yeah, how. As to what I was saying before, a box that can do all that with HDMI out is insane for 200 USD.
What's so bad about DT in your opinion?
try being a launch owner where you had nearly a year long drought of games with only a shitty 30 cent VC promotion to tide you over after Ubisoft went and turned Rayman multiplat and delayed.
Oh yeah forget it if you bought a basic model, I don't even want to go into that mess
>games quality doen't matter at all
ftfy
my entire class once went"hey man! its been a long time since i even plugged in ym wii. man i wanna play some boxing and tennin n sheeit"
market the console for an install base, which is at a lose. market the games for longevity and a profit
>buying a system at launch when it has fucking nothing on it
you brought this on yourself, I wouldn't even buy a switch at launch and that at least has zelda.
Devil's Third sucked
Two other platforms had Bayonetta 2
NG3 isn't exclusive
W101 was poorly advertised, unfortunately
3D World was the only good Mario thing besides another NSMB since all his Wii U spin-offs were shit
Yoshi ended up on the 3DS with more content
Kirby had one of his most mediocre spin-off entries on the system and "mainline" stuff was happening on the 3DS which is still getting Kirby games
A shame about Tropical Freeze. Great game.
GodHand was a good beat'em up which you could play any way you wanted due the combo editor
DT is another TPS but more mediocre than the average one with bosses that range from meh to braindead AI
Whoops, meant Bayonetta 1.
>Two other platforms had Bayonetta 2
???
2 of those being ports of fucking older games at the time..........
devils 3rd had some pretty dope multiplayer, but i doubt anyone got to play it since the game was stupid rare. B2 wasn't bad, but it felt not as good as the original.
W101 could have been longer, it was ok.
decent RPGs, on the fucking wiiU?
no
same with fighters
fuck you OP, you are an obvious troll
With Nintendoland, NSMBU and Zombiu along with what was coming on the horizon the library wasn't horrible but Nintendo really fucked you early on
please tell me you're just being ironic
Tokyo Mirage Sessions and XCX were good if you ignore the localization fags, and Color Splash wasn't that bad also Zelda if you want to count that. SSB4, Pokken and the best version Tekken Tag 2 for fighters.
I forgot, GH is consistently challenging throughout the game and even then the better you play the harder it gets
The only "challenge" DT presents is when the game glitches on you
Devil's Third is a TPS but can be played like a beat em up too.
>best selection of beat em ups
>a port
>actual new game
>shit game
>port
>actual new game
>and platformers
>one good 3D Mario
>non-exclusive
>one good DK game
>garbage sequel to a good DS game
>decent RPGs
>Tokyo Hashtag is the only one
>fighting games
>proceeds to not list a single one
The fucking 3DS had more variety
No I'm being genuine
Even some of the ports were actually pretty good but once it hit 2013 it was like a desert
Nintendoland was an underrated gem of a game, the DK game was legit challenging, while being fair.
For what it's worth I had a lot of fun with it, and still do. Granted I almost exclusively play couch games or multi online, but even with Battfield1, Rocket league, ARK survival, Don't starve, BlackOps3, and Minecraft all on my PS4, I still go back to smash and kart more often than not. Very comfy couch gaming.
I mean, I feel nintendoland is a little underrated, but NSMBU and ZombiU kinda suck - at best, they're both mediocre. Either way, not games that would ever sell me on a system, that's for damn sure.
Because Sup Forums can't resist a bandwagon.
>Tokyo Mirage Sessions
Just okay. The censorship wasn't even a big deal, the protagonists are just bland and it plays like a gimped SMT with very little fanservice for either fanbase.
>XCX
Inferior to XC. Even more obvious now that XC is getting a sequel while XCX ended on a sequel hook.
>Color Splash wasn't that bad
It wasn't that good either.
>Zelda if you want to count that
Are you that fucking desperate?
Wii U also had a decent survival horror selection with the definitive version of RE Revelations, as well as ZombiU and Fatal Frame V.
>the definitive version of RE Revelations
It's actually better on other consoles, even the 3DS.
Are you kidding me? NSMBU is one of the greatest side-scrolling marios, easily SMW/SMB3 tier.
>Fatal Frame V
Don't remind me of that
NSMBU was great and easily the best 2d mario since SMW but it definitely got fucked over with NSMBW being mediocre garbage and NSMB2 being right around it the launch of NSMBU
ZombiU was hit or miss, I enjoyed it for a game I probably wouldn't have played normally
>Tokyo Mirage Sessions and XCX were good if you ignore the localization fags
There were more problems with those games other than the localization, one being a bland as fuck JRPG and the other being a slog and inferior to Chronicles in the elements that mattered
>and Color Splash wasn't that bad
Except it was, being a bit better than SS still means you shouldnt bother with playing it
>SSB4
Which is only eclipsed with Brawl as the worst Smash game
>Pokken and the best version Tekken Tag 2 for fighters.
It cant be the best version if no one plays it any more
>RE Revelations
see
>as well as ZombiU
Which was garbage and the only redeemable factor being the whole gamepad gimmick
>and Fatal Frame V.
Didnt play it cant say nothing about
>playing fighting games online and not split screen
How old are you?
Tekken Tag 2, also on PS3.
Sm4sh, which stands out mainly because it's exclusive and PSASBR sucked ass.
#FE was actually something fairly new, unlike P4G. Not that it justifies it.
Deus Ex Human Revolution on Wii U is great if you don't have a PC. Play on the gamepad in a dark room with noise cancelling headphones.
>Tokyo Hashtag is the only one
how the fuck could you forget XCX?
Also, Woolly World has multiplayer on wii u
I liked the challenge mode but the actual 'story' mode (no idea why they call it that) was piss-easy for my taste. DKTF is god-tier, though.
>Inferior to XC. Even more obvious now that XC is getting a sequel while XCX ended on a sequel hook.
Not at all, XCX was a big improvement as far as gameplay was concerned. The main story was a mess, yes, but it's actual gameplay was objectively an improvement in almost every regard. I don't know why exactly they opted to do a sequel to XC instead of XCX (sales figures, maybe?), but it is silly to suggest that it's because XCX is "inferior".
ITT: Mona Fan's humongous bias makes him samefag since /vg/ is slow

>Somehow you're underage for playing fighting games online
Might as well shut-down every fighting game including Sm4sh then
You literally do not get the same experience playing a fighting game, unless your opponent is next to you.
those beat-em-ups and platformers don't do anything more impressive than similar titles from 20 years ago
your system can have a million match-3 puzzle games but that's not a good enough reason for anyone to buy it
Sounds more like third parties gave the huge fuck you to the Wii U and early buyers rather than the system being at fault.
>You literally do not get the same experience playing a fighting game, unless your opponent is next to you.
Now say that in any other thread or in front of other fighting game fans, and pray that they dont laugh in your face
Honestly, the thing I hated about the Wii U is how a large chunk of its entries in popular Nintendo spin-offs sucked (Mario Party, Animal Crossing, Kirby) and nobody really knew how to use the stupid gimmick controller. You either had games like DK where the shit was just off, games like 3D World where it's mandatory for like 1-2 things and forgotten, or games like Star Fox where they go full retard and it messes up everything.
Thankfully the Switch is gaining momentum/games.
Of course they did. They released Mass Effect 3 alone knowing few Nintendo fans had played the first two.
He's not wrong you know.
Especially since online for fighters are prone to lag spikes.
Even if they did I wouldn't give a shit. Why do you think online fighting game tournaments are rare? Because actual tournament players know how important a frame can be to deciding a match. Plus trash talk too, it just makes it more fun.
And then they went and released the trilogy on other systems not too long after.
They were clearly banking on another easy ride of shovelware just like the Wii before it but when they realised they actually had to make a competent game they just rushed out some ports to the masses and dropped support in like a week.
>someone is underage if they play a mode you don't like
I mean, Pokken's online was a big deal
And it's essentially dead these days so he isn't wrong
>Pokken's online was a big deal
To who exactly?
Last time I checked it was subject to the same flaws every fighter has when it comes to online play.
The game pad is by far the worst part of the console
>bulky
>some features and software are tied to it so you MUST have a gamepad present to use them (e.g. setting up new wifi connections, youtube)
>shoulder buttons on the bottom of the thing, so they get pressed on accident often if the pad is resting on something that might move slightly.
>doesn't stand up on its own and is too thick to sit in a generic phone/ipad stand
I could go on but you get the point. At least the switch solved some of these issues.
Some ports were good like Deus Ex HR, and Tekken TT2, but few bought them, because I think it's true, most people who own a Nintendo system don't buy too many 3rd party games unless they're for weeaboos, most Nintendo fans I know irl are complete weeaboos/otakus.
>Especially since online for fighters are prone to lag spikes.
Unless you live in a third-world country that's rarely a problem
>Plus trash talk too, it just makes it more fun.
If you're a nigger maybe
>To who exactly?
Are we just going to pretend nobody likes or plays online modes? Why is everyone in the FGC so close-minded?
This is why I don't take Wii Ucucks seriously.
>To who exactly?
to the people who play online
>IF YOU PLAY SMASH ONLINE YOU'RE UNDERAGE!
This. Nintendo decided to put it all on the 3rd parties, and had a pretty great launch, but then a few delays of theirs (Pikmin mostly), combined with Rayman and other fiascos led through 2 droughts, one of about 50 days, and one of almost 4 months at the start and close of the year. Even so, with its first year on market and drought, Wii U had at least 1 "heavy" (and I use that term lightly) hitter each month averaged out.
1. NSMBU
2. NSLU
3.MIghty Switch Force: HDE
4. Game & Wario
5. Pikmin 3
6. Wonderful 101
7. Wind Waker HD
8. Nintendo Land
9.Wii Party U
10.SM3DW
11. Nes Remix
12.Wii Fit U
The drought fucked them out, but the lineup wasn't shit, average at worst. Thank god Switch has a real heavy Hitter each month.
March: Zelda
April: Mario Kart
May: Recoup month/recent new 3rd party month (NeoGeo games, puyo tetris, wonder boy, Rime, Tumbleseed, Disgaea, ETC)
June: Arms
July: Splatoon 2
Good on them for not putting the fate of their hardware on 3rd parties that can abandon them.
>playful banter and trash talk is nigger like
What the fuck has happened to people these days? Thin skinned pussies.
>average at worst
>list takes a nosedive and is only momentarily saved by 3D World
Face it, their first-party lineup was weak as fuck and had massive gaps. If Breath of the Wild had gone to the Switch only, the fucking Wii U would have died with Color Splash and Star Fox Zero.
>most people who own a Nintendo system don't buy too many 3rd party games
Eh, that's something kind of exclusive to the Wii and Wii U seeing as they perform well on the DS and 3DS. The Gamecube also had a fair bit of them that did well.
In all honesty it's not too surprising that Nintendo fans would be burned after the Wii's endless waves of shovelware. The only people who were really giving it good games were Nintendo themselves in a similar situation to the Wii U.
That's what makes it average at worst. But yeah. I am not disagreeing at all, the droughts killed momentum because average wasn't good enough for those droughts. At least with Switch, we can say that at LEAST the first 6 months of its life will be completely drought free.
I'm conflicted on it, as I agree but I also feel that the gamepad is superb when used properly by the system and its games. It's the only console browser I've actually bothered to use (despite being somewhat barebones); and games like Mario Maker, Splatoon, WWHD, etc. that actually use the gamepad's features fully benefit greatly from it. Off-TV play is also top-comfy for playing games in bed.
>b-b-b-but it's not about the third-party games
>third party games doing great on the 3DS and Switch
>b-b-b-b-b-b-b-but the first party is g-good
>Wii U loses exclusives to 3DS
>they sell better on 3DS despite some features being cut

What 3rd party games are doing well on switch?
Well, Binding of Issac got a reprint so there's that?
indie shit which the wii u made a huge deal about during nearly every direct
kek
Not him but we don't have concrete sales figures for anything yet. You're going to have to wait until Nintendo updates their site with the Switch numbers.
I can't lie, that boxart is awesome. AB+ fucking sucks, though; I'd rather it be base Rebirth or at very least regular Afterbirth.
Bomberman? Although the series was never known for being a big seller so I guess it doesnt count
It's only a pricecut, DLC add-on, and marketing push away form being an evergreen title at this point.
I agree with this. The Gamepad is great for a few games. For pretty much all other games you can use the Pro Controller, at which point the system feels no different from an Xbox.
>inb4 Star Fox
Yes, that was a terrible mandatory use of the Gamepad. Among the many problems of that game, not letting me blast enemies with a Pro Controller was top of the list.
I don't know about sales, but a lot of indie ports have been pretty well-received thanks to the actual portability and a lot of devs abandoned the sinking Wii U ship to move to the Switch so it already has more support.
>more mediocre than average
nani?
>not letting me blast enemies with a Pro Controller was top of the list.
technically you could with its weird co-op mode, but yeah SF0's controls are a pain in the ass. I tried the demo for it once and decided I wouldn't bother getting the game afterwards.
Your fanboyism knows no bounds.
What fanboyism? it literally explains exactly why Wii U failed.
>we could have had games like TWEWY 2 or a HD Layton
The more you look at it the more you realize that the Wii U was a good console that was fucked over by the third parties dropping out.
