So Best Buy's reward system, but worse?
>120$ gamestop credit every year
>15% bonus tradein and discount on used games
>the same as 20% off new games
dont be negative. this is really interesting
>trading in your games
>buying used games
When will gamestop go under?
hopefully soon
>getting 50% of your purchase back when youre done with it
>bad
>buying AAA games for reasonable prices in the same condition as they released. including obscure japanese ones that may not have been at other retailers
>bad
jeez
What's the birthday gift?
their trade in prices suck user
Learn to ebay, youll make a lot more
>buying AAA games
>ever
lol. look at the gamestop employee
>6 replies, 4 posters
nice samefaggory
Used to shop at fucking Gamestop all the time but recently it seems like all the pestering their clerks do has gotten worse and worse. They've got their weird disc-insurance scam thing and the last few times I went there a clerk came up to me with a tablet and asked for my account info so he could check if I had any coupons and shit available, just fucking leave me alone.
>buying games
LMAO
>Pay $40 more a year for a 5% difference
thanks op
beta is fucking right
specially since you dont actually have to pay anyone money for their physical products on ebay
you can just pretend like you're not gonna charge back 4000€ worth of electronics and no1 will b the wiser
Former gamestop employee here, the fucked up thing is they're pressured into doing this bullshit or they get their hours cut. Gamestop is one of the worst things to happen to vidya and it must be wiped from the face of this earth.
>pay $60 a year
>get $120 a year to spend at Gamestop
That's extremely good since the cost of the membership pays for itself. It's a pretty obvious ploy to just get you to come in more often and spend more cash over time though.
That actually looks like a good deal if you buy a lot of video games.
>implying gamestop employees dont fucking hate gamestop
A gamestop sticker.
Lel I havent paid for my pro card in 5 years because it already pays for itself.
>we are selling retail in an industry notoriously populated by shut-ins who hate talking to people
>let's force our employees to relentlessly bother any customer who walks in
they HAVE to annoy you to sign up for their shit unfortunately. they have reach a certain quota or else they will not get hours or get fired all together.
i know a few people that worked at gamestop and they hated doing that. they knew it annoyed the shit out of people that were just there to buy a game and leave. but it was their job and were pretty much forced to do so.
I look at my shelf and loathe the fact I've kept some of these games for so long. I never play half of my games ever again a second time sometimes you just need to let go.
Some games have such a low value tho so it's not worth trading in everything.
I legit get fired at every job for not pushing shit like this.
>user, you only sold 2 of the subscriptions this month, your female coworker sold 10
>rinse and repeat until i get fired
>populated by shut-ins who hate talking to people
but why would those shut-ins be shopping at gamestop?
they would just be at home, ordering their games from online sites
i see what you were trying to do but your logic is flawed.
Guy asked if I was pre ordering Mario kart 8. I said I don't preorder games and says "oh well we only get limited copies". Oh now I better preorder cause it's not like I can't get a copy anywhere else within a 10 min walk!
I feel bad for the employees cause they have to say such shit lines to customers.
>50 a year
>only 5% increase to pro
>but get 10 dollars every month
Wait how is this not a scam for Gamestop? They're giving me 120 dollars a year which I can just use to pay off the subscription and still have money
Wait, wait, this can't be correct, or at least there has to be some sort of catch.
You pay 60 dollars a year, but get 120 worth of in-store credit? Wouldn't they lose money that way? There HAS to be some sort of expiration date or catch on the $10 reward voucher, right?
>no 20% off new games
It's like they don't know why people like amazon and Best Buy
You guys should take a marketing class.
Well shit, I can buy two games or get fucked in the ass and jump through hoops for some faceless exec for the price of one!
>people thought this was a good idea
I went to pick up KH 2.8 on release day. As I'm picking it up, they suggest that I pre-order 1.5+2.5. I tell them no because I already have all of that on PS3. Their response was, and I quote "But it's remastered..." I get that they're trying to push the pre-order because of whatever incentive corporate sets for them, but come on.
I'm pretty sure you can use only one per purchase, so you cant horde them and use them all on one game.
usually it's less incentive and more not getting fired for poor performance.
Which is an incentive I guess.
The catch I would assume is that it's in store credit. Virtual money. It doesn't actually exist. So it's basically Gamestop's money through and through. You'll never be able to use that $120 outside of Gamestop for anything else. Whereas the $60 fee is real money coming straight out of your pocket. It just makes you "feel" like you're saving money.
really boggins the noggins
But you're still able to pay for the subscription using credit, or even power up reward points, which is how I maintain mine despite only going to Gamestop maybe three times a year
I'm amazed physical vidya stores still exist. Do adults go there or are there only kids and their parents?
>Buying them used
Might as well just pirate them at that point.
Gamestop has begun to integrate a lot of geek/gamer merchandise. Funko figures, graphic tees, stuff like that. So yeah, kids.
Someone detail what they mean by "$50 in exclusive monthly offers"?
Coupons for shit games no one wants?
>join Elite
>Gamestop goes out of business a month later
IT'S NOT FAIR
Yeah like something that great is about to happen.
>gamestop pockets 60 per year
>you get 10 in a certificate every month. this doesnt add up, one certificate is for one month
>because of this, youre buying product from gamestop stores at least once per month, when you may not have before
>many of these purchases will be "may as well use it before I lose it...."
>most of these purchases will be just 10 dollars off a game that costs 20+ dollars
>since its from gamestop, itll be a used one, because they have no incentives for buying new games aside from pre-order bonuses they hold hostage
>its cheaper to wait for a used copy than buy a new one with prime or best buy unlocked. GS elite gets a discount after the used-game-price-drop, and you save 10 dollars per one a month.
>even if you ignore the number crunching, best buy gamers club is more passive, and thus more forgettable. This membership is "FREE MONEY ALL YEAR". Itll definitely become a higher priority for people.
If they promote this right, itll be a nice bounce for them. one of the least shitty things ive seen from gamestop for a while
Obviously not within a month, but Gamestop is rapidly losing business. It's the reason half the fucking store looks like Hot Topic now.
Something that's actually worth less than $10, because the $20 tier gets you the same "exclusive offer", but they still have to make profit.
>Might as well just pirate them at that point.
not quite. at least when you buy used you remove the used copy from the market.
this doesn't actually seem so bad. am I retarded?
You're paying extra to get slightly less screwed in the used market and a bunch of shitty coupons.
Just cut out the middleman and buy on craigslist.
That "o" in power is given the middle finger.
It's $25 for 2 years of 20% off any new game at Best Buy. This is hardly competing.
And release day delivery, which is something Gamestop hasn't figured out yet.
I didn't do any of this shit when I worked there. What I hated was having to always say "DON'T FORGET TO BRING IN YOUR USED STUFF FOR CREDIT!" I even had to say it to someone who traded in a console and about ten games. It was ridiculous.
The Best Buy I work at finally has a sign comparing the benefits of GCU and GameStops program. For a while there was little advertisement for it. GCU started at $120 for two years but dropped quickly.
Try actually stopping into a Gamestop some time and you'll see how right he really is. In reality it should work the way you claim, but it doesn't
i find GS much better because incase the game is broken, I can replace it easily. If I buy things, I get points I can redeem for in-store credit, and an top of the in store credit a month you get, this doesn't seem bad.
>SIXTY DOLLARS for 5% increase and ten non-stackable coupons a year
That's not worth the damn money.
And that's why I love working for the government, where no one gives a shit about competition
The moment Gamestop offered me literally two dollars for a single video game years ago when I was a dumb teenager is when I decided ultimately that trading in your games is the worst thing anybody can do.
You disgust me.
Are you one of those dumbasses that got mad they wouldn't pay you $20 for Club Penguin DS? Because every time I read/hear someone bitch about that stuff, it's something like that. Oh boohoo, they wouldn't give you fifty bucks for your copy of FIFA 11.
>walk in with game
>we'll give you four bucks
>glance at pre-owned section
>Same Game (without the case or manual): $19.99
>walk out
Roughly 25% of their value of it.
Odds are the game is in low demand.
Don't forget you can't use em online and the purchase must exceed 10 and they expire in a month
I bought GTA V for $30, paid with a $30 in store credit from reward points, and then traded that game in for $28. Good stuff.
After the Birthday Coupon fiasco, I'm sure Gamestop put a limit on how many certs you can stack on one purchase.
But gamestop is also retarded so it wouldn't surprise me if they didnt
whats the birthday gift?
