Switch Mini

Am I the only one who would want this?

I'd rather have a Switch Home version

Before people ask, this is just a mockup that's not confirmed, but only speculated by "market experts"

Does the switch have netflix?

Aren't people complaining about the joycons being too small? And then you make them non detachable AND smaller in the mini?

If they get XCX to play at 60fps on it, I'll get it.

Assuming you're not being stupid on purpose, the reasons some people complain about the joycons being so small is that the joycons on their own are very small so you have very little to hold onto. You don't have that issue when they're attached to the Switch and you won't have that issue with a hypothetical Switch Mini because you have the rest of the console to hold onto.

What would be the point of calling it the switch then?

because you have to switch your brain off to think this is going to be real any time soon

Not gonna happen - this thing would confuse the devs and make them pretty mad. Nintendo doesn't want to do that now.

You have no idea how budget planning works in gaming and how important basic console functions as a selling point are. Switch has a pretty big selling point a lot of Sup Forums forgets about, just because they take it for granted - Switch is a portable that's always two player ready.

You might think this isn't such a big deal, but look how many games announced or released have 2 player options. Devs put these things in their games because it's something every console can do - not that many people buy another controller, outside of those who play more often, and fucking no one has a spare controller on the go. When designing a game, part of the budget goes to two player experiences probably just because Switch allows them to be there, thanks to Joy-Cons.

So yeah, I don't see a Switch mini existing without the Joy-Cons. Most you're going to get is probably a L JoyCon that has an actual D-pad on it that you could buy separately.

It would still be compatible with the dock it just wouldn't come with one if someone just wants a portable console.

I kind of prefer to detachable joycon because I can replace them for less than the repair cost if the sticks or buttons ever fuck up.

>under $200
you are fucking dreaming my dude

Just make the PS Vita TV version of the Switch.

Strip the portability and the screen, I just want the setup box that plugs to the TV.

Except people hate how close the sticks are to the buttons regardless of if they're attached to the screen or not, genius. The mockup clearly shows the stick and button placement is even MORE cramped than the default fucking joycons. There's literally no point to something like this except to have an even bigger Vita failure clogging the shelves. I'd rather have .

I'm holding out for the XL version with non detachable joycons

>under 200$ for an even smaller 2016 tech
What world do you live in? How fucking stupid are you? See you in a few years, when maybe then it'll be possible to sell a shrunk down portable with that kind of power for less than 200$. Are you one of the people who think the new iPhone or Galaxy are stronger than the Switch just because they have QHD screens or some shit?

Looks nice. Buying a Switch is still early adopter tier. You have to be a retard not to wait a couple years to buy a new console.

...

This and only this. Handhelds are for children.

I want Nintendo to make this but I don't want it. I'd rather have an XL console.

A Switch mini would appeal to the people who think the Switch isn't portable enough and want a more traditional handheld. It would also shut the people who keep saying there's going to be a 3DS successor up.

I think it would be the best thing they could do since they could put their full focus on making games for the Switch.

The problem with that is that it no longer switches meaning it would require a totally different name and confuse people.
At least the 2DS could be clear about what it is just by its name.

Do you work for nintendo?

Stop making this shitty thread every day.
Provided it existed it will not be sub-200
The internals won't fit in there or would be so tightly packed the cooling systems would fail
The battery life will be even worse

I don't really see the relevance here, I mean Nintendo dropped the 3D in 3DS to sell to player's who didn't want to use the feature and was successful at appealing to budget audience with the 2DS. I have never seen anyone who wanted to play 2 players on a 6.5 inch screen before. I mean maybe in car rides but where else would they. I feel that feature is similar to the 3D for the 3DS or motion controls for the Wii. I mean it's a cool tech demo but nothing more.

Honest question, how much battery power does the screen alone draw? Preferably an estimation in percentage if possible?

3D was dropped because of kids and only a few years later, when Nintendo lifted the embargo that told devs their games had to be 3D - no 3D option meant they could put more resources into better looking games, since 3D eats into resources available to them. 3D was a literal gimmick that only gave problems.

On the other hand - detachable Joy-Cons that allow for two player gaming everywhere aren't a gimmick, they're an actual feature that can give developed games more value and doesn't eat into available resources as much,. since putting some smaller multiplayer options isn't that big of a deal for bigger devs, compared to how much potential sales it can net them.

Not yet, but will come eventually, like YouTube

>Nintendo Switch that you can't switch

There also isn't a requirement for multiplayer games needing to be playable with only one Joy-Con. Devs can just decide each player needs their own pair or pro controller.

If it got netflix I might snag one and pick up a isp that provides train networks.

Could use that on the train instead of my phone going to work and back.

It will be under $200 but unavailable everywhere so you will have to pay scalpers $400 for it

Yes, obviously, but still - having two JC is a selling point a lot of devs can use when deciding which games to port for Switch. As always, every new console will be a porting machine for the first year, with potential announcements during that year based on sales of those ports. And seeing how people seem to enjoy the idea of having Mario Kart 8D two player mode everywhere, I think we'll see more games putting some kind of simplified co-op just to get more sales.

But Joy-Cons are just the smaller problem tied to devs - everything else about the idea of a Switch Mini is idiotic. Even if you tied Joy-Cons to it and gor a little bit more space to keep the battery the same size, it'd still get too hot. Oh yeah, and a lot of devs would start then to treat Switch's portable mode as the only important one, so the people who'd want to play it on their TVs would get sub-par experiences with either maybe a small fps bump or nothing at all. Because why put work and money into something only a small percentage of the userbase would see, since the already 50% potential userbase playing it on TV would be halved once more by the sales of a Mini version that has no TV play?

I already have a Gamepad OP. It has a much larger d-pad too so everyone wins. They have about the same quality screens too. Both are garbage.

Have you held one its already too small

I don't know that sound's like gimmick to me. I mean if you enjoy playing the Switch that way that's cool I am not hating on you by any means just saying that I have never heard anyone who bought the Switch say I can't wait to play multiplayer on the go on this 6.5 inch screen. Most just buy a second controller and play couch multiplayer.

I mean I just feel a Mini Switch would reach a broader spectrum of people?

The image proposes that it would be dock and joy con compatible, you barely literate fucktard

ahh, the 21st century...where scalpers now set the MSRP...

rly maeks u thnk

ITT: Nintendies have gotten that summer job.

I was just saying the Switch isn't restricted to a single Joy-Con in multiplayer games as a plus.

OP's Switch Mini just seems stupid to me simply because it can't do what its name says without buying a separate accessories. It would need an additional +$130 between the dock and separate controller just to fulfill the whole switching thing.

>Dock and Joycons don't come with it
>You have to pay extra to do what the product title says and what the console's main gimmick is

A lot of people who liked the 3DS (particularly to just play Pokemon) are hesitant to buy a Switch for three main reasons:
1) It's far too expensive. Other handheld consoles were pretty cheap, $90 for a GB, $100 for a GBA, $150 (dropped to $130) for a DS. The 3DS launched at $250 and it sold like shit until they cut the price to $170. And they even had to release the 2DS which cost $130 at launch to ensure that people would not hesitate to buy the console when Pokemon X/Y came out.
2) The battery life is not amazing for a portable system. The 3DS was criticised for having a shorter battery life than its predecessors but even that could last 4-6 hours when playing games. The Switch seems to last 3 hours maximum when playing an intensive game. It doesn't sound like a big difference but considering how much worse the 3DS's battery life was compared to the GB(C)/GBA/DS, they're already cutting it fine by decreasing the battery life.
3) It's not as portable. The GB(C) and GBA were made of Nintendium and they could survive most things you threw at it. The DS and 3DS were more frail but they had a clamshell design to protect the screens and give it a bit more durability. Also they all had a small form factor which meant that you could fit them into your pockets if you wanted to. While the Switch will be difficult to break by accident, the screen does scratch easily and the detachable joycons are a structural weakpoint that will pop off if you do accidentally drop the console. And the Switch is slightly to big to fit in your pockets, even if you take off the joycons. The console is designed to be carried in a case which isn't terrible, but a good thing about the older consoles was that if you were going to a friends house to play Pokemon for a bit, you could just put your Gameboy/DS with the cartridge slotted in and put it in your pocket, nothing else required. Carrying around a single object will always be easier than carrying around three objects.

it's the like the 2DS
and while the 2DS' design was a trainwreck, the concept was a good idea - 3D was a dumb overpriced gimmick and so is the switch factor

Capitalism at its finest

Yes, because you're the only one with the hands of a child. WHo are you marketing this idea to? Sonyfanboys

Whats the point of interchangeable controllers then?
If they did make a Switch mini a good deal of gimmicks go out the window

This will never happen, anybody speculating this is retarded

You literally wouldn't be able to play ARMS or any other motion control game on the switch mini

>It would still be compatible with the dock
Not with the current one it wouldn't - that mockup is too short to fit. So they'd have to make a new mini dock, and poof the supposed price savings disappear.

Would not be excited, would play games like shit, controls would feel even worse.

Only good things are non removable controllers and portability.

>broke a joycon last night dropping it now it doesnt lock in

Ran out of characters so I'll just write my conclusion here.

There is a market for a Switch mini/Switch lite like the one in the OP. I'm not really sure if they could produce a smaller console with a better battery life that can play the same games as the Switch, but if they can then it would be something that people would buy. The main reason why the Switch is so expensive is that it comes with so many peripherals. The dock is $90 (I highly doubt it costs anywhere near that much to produce but that's what they charge for it), the joycons cost $80 and you have the HDMI cable, wrist straps, etc.. If you assume that Nintendo are selling all their accessories at a profit of 20% (which is roughly the profit margin of the Switch console since teardowns estimate the Switch to cost $250 to produce), then that's about $150 off the Switch's price already.

And they already did it once before. They removed the gimmick that gave the 3DS its name and changed it to get more sales at a lower price. They released the New 3DS and the other consoles couldn't play some of its exclusives.

It's not far fetched at all, especially since Nintendo nearly always re-releases its handhelds.

>sub-$200
You're fucking delusional
>5 inch display
And a fucking idiot.

I thought someone else would get the idea behind a mini switch.

It could still be compatible with a dock and other controllers, it's just that it those wouldn't be packaged with the console when you buy it.
