Puzzle games get my little nuts quacking

I meant to write something in the op but i accidentally pressed enter

im sorry senpai i failed you

Oops I meant Quaking

>when you're playing against 3 tetris players as a puyo puyo player and get a huge chain that knocks everyone else at once

The more I play I wonder how tetris players even manage. It's easier to raise hell through chaining puyos.

>pulled that off 20 minutes ago
>forgot to save the replay

>tfw too dumb to make chains in Puyo Puyo

If they're fast enough, you'll get too much garbage to do much of anything, so really the ranking goes low-level Puyo Puyo -> low-level Tetris -> competent Tetris -> Competent Puyo Puyo -> High Level Puyo Puyo -> High Level Tetris

What even is the plot of the Madou Monogatari games?

...

Is this the latest Sup Forums meme?

Do I do it, boys? Do I buy it?

>tfw was seriously thinkining in buying
>Went to the PSN assuming the filesize would be small because puzzle game
>Remember it is physical only

JUST

>tfw have it both physical and digital on Switch

Thanks Ubisoft.

>English dub only

>SEGA

It's not a bad dub by any means.

>It's not a bad dub
Even IF that was true, in which I know you are blatantly lying, why is it acceptable to not include the japanese voices?

It's NOT a bad dub. Especially in Adventure Mode, where the characters' delivery of their lines are pretty damn great (you can tell that they had a fun time recording their lines)

Also, depending on the original contracts and how they were negotiated it might be literally impossible for them to have licensed the original Japanese voices for the western release. Considering the fact that up until 4 months ago no one thought that this game even had a chance of coming west, I'd say that it's very likely that the original contracts were only for Japan and that there simply might not have been a way for them to have gotten the Japanese voices for this release.

>not bad
>dub

man....

Then negotiate for it. It's not even close to impossible to do this and no one should be supporting this shitty practice of not doing it. Do you want all your future games to be localized like this?

>Splatoon avatarfagging weeb
>WAHH WHY CAN'T I HEAR MUH CHINKY CHONKY VOICES I CAN'T UNDERSTAND ANYWAY

why am i not surprised

Nigger, some dubs are fine. I'm usually a Japanese audio purist too but disregarding a dub JUST because it's a dub is fucking stupid.
Anyone that plays Persona 5 in English is a fucking retard, though.
I see you're unaware of exactly how asinine the Japanese Voice Actor's union is.

>It's NOT a bad dub. Especially in Adventure Mode
That's where it's almost the most embarrassing. I can't stand it. I know you switch users are desperate for games as to re-buy games now over 2 years old, but seriously, your standards shouldn't be this low. I don't wanna put up with years of garbage localizations because you faggots who didn't even know this series existed until a week ago got desperate to play literally anything.

...

>I can't stand it.

Go back to not being in any more Puyo games, Oshare Bones.

>complaining about chink voices in a chink game
English VA is just horrible anyway

Well, this thread's off to a great start.

>Tetris theme song
How do you hold a copyright on an old folk song?

Can we go back to talking about wrecking Tetris noobs as Puyo players online?

Sega cheaping out on Licensing? Fuck if I know, I just play games man.
Also, Puyo Puyo seems niche in the West, with it having little exposure save for mini-games, so I don't think Sega wanted to go all out on a 3 year old game.

Faggot, shut your damn mouth. This has nothing to do with the Switch, I legitimately feel that the dub is actually good. You can disagree, that's your opinion, but like most things regarding enjoyment of video games this is very much SUBJECTIVE rather than OBJECTIVE.

I rebought it on PS4 and I think the dub is fine this isn't a matter of low standards I legitimately think they did a good job and I even like some characters now that I previously didn't like Amitie. Why are you trying to a ruin another thread when the last one went on relatively well until you showed up? As you can see a good portion of us are okay with it so really I don't know why I'm still bothering. Either way the money spent on jap va's on a cheap puzzle game wouldn't make up for the meager turbo weeb sales.

...

It was inevitable. This kind of attention always gets pulled to games that get threads lasting more than 300 posts. We're enjoying Puyo Puyo finally being more popular and all the consequences that comes with that.

I fought against a Tetris god that was able to destroy everyone within two minutes.

It was incredible! It was like watching a perfect machine algorithm play the game. He sent the blocks down almost the same instant they appeared

Who /Raffina/ main here? Fuck Klug

Now that the game is released globally, will i be able to select a region or match with us or eu players with the japanese version?

Yeah. Before the game "officially" came out in the west (I got a review copy) I got absolutely wrecked by some Japanese players online.

Was he autistic?

Bought my copy, waiting on my switch. Been practicing on tsu since last year. How well can I expect to do online if I've never played against a human?

I'm actually having fun with it, getting reacquainted with Puyo Puyo years after enjoying the company of Dr. Robotnik & his Mean Beans.

Just been playing quick games of Big Bang to rack up points to spend too, pretty easy & quick.

You can set your region, but I have mine as US (NY) and played Japs and Californians.

Should I not bother with online until I get better? Or how long until it gets me in a suitable rank? I played maybe around 8 online matches earlier and got super wrecked in 5 of them.

At this point you should do alright, most folks getting it for Tetris underestimate a good Puyo Chain.

>mfw tetrisfags can do nothing but watch in despair as I construct an elaborate 5 chain, filling their entire screen with fuck you blocks, causing defeat instantly

From what I've read here and elsewhere, licensing Jap audio is a separate expense over and above the cost of licensing and localizing the game itself. Voice work is pretty serious business over there and the ones who make it big can rake in Simpson-actor like salaries. Someone in the earlier thread pointed out that Sega's main marketing push for Puyo 7 was who they got to voice the MC. The US division probably decided the cost of those pricey voices wouldn't be justified by the sales it would bring from purists.

You can combo 12 lines in a row in the time it takes a Puyo player to setup a single 4 chain.

Cool. Even if I get my shit kicked in I still look forward to playing with you fucks. Good times will be had.

It's trademarked, not copyrighted. Anything that defines a company's brand can be trademarked. You can even trademark a fragrance or color. It's used to protect a brand from customers mistaking another brand for yours, not claim that you made it.
In this case, use of the song for something that isn't a video game soundtrack wouldn't have any legal troubles. It's when you use that exact snippet of the song in a video game that would likely get the Tetris guys to take legal action.

...

Is there an option to set your region in game? or is it whichever Switch profile you select when you start the game? One profile is Japanese the other is US.

You set it yourself.

Most folks getting it for Tetris also don't understand that Tetrises are the slowest possible way to garbage up your opponent. You need T-spins, double > triple > double combos, and a bunch of single clears underneath that to finish them off.

>5-chain
>elaborate

most new western players are just shit at Tetris, a good Tetris player can fuck us Puyobros up

doesn't make it any less satisfying when I wombo-combo everyone else in a 4-player lobby to death with a huge chain

>Joined a lobby
>Didn't notice they set it to Tetris only
>Ready to get my shit kicked in because I'm pretty bad at tetris
>Come back from being at my top 4 lines to barely squeeze out a win
>Completely steamroll the next 2 rounds

It's in-game. You can set it to whatever you want and change it whenever.

>tfw accidentally creating a gigantic death chain out of pure desperation, clearing your entire screen and killing everybody else

>joined a lobby to spread the word of our lord and savior GRT
>after fucking obliterating Tetris players for 3 games, switch to Tetris
>obliterate the lobby for another 3 games with dem T-spins
remember to show your dominance, puyobros!

This is my first time seriously playing either Tetris OR Puyo Puyo.
This reminds me of fighting games.

fug meant GTR

what the fuck is a t-spin?

>This reminds me of fighting games.

Because it's pretty much one. Like Twinkle Star Sprites is the Street Fighter of shmups, Puyo Puyo is the Street Fighter of puzzle games.

I want raffina jump from a ravine-a just kiddying, i wanted to post this

You can abuse the rotate mechanic to get the T block into positions you wouldn't think are possible. Clearing lines with special t-spins does lots of damage. A 2 line t-spin does 4 garbage, the same as a Tetris. a 3 line T-spin does 6 garbage.

T-spins can be faster and more efficient than using Tetrises to clear lines and do damage.

why is hard drop disabled for puyo by default anyway?

Modern tetris rules reward you with extra junk for achieving this. You can also T-Spin double for a little extra.

Classic Tsu rules. It's a little archaic, but it's been the standard Puyo enthusiasts have been using as the standard for so long now.

Because otherwise Tetris players would never win. The ONLY thing that makes Tetris better in high-level play is its speed. Even then, A good Puyo player can do well.

youtube.com/watch?v=ZvJcCEKa2Io

So Hi-level puyo w/hard drop >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>everything else huh

Yes.

>tfw no robotnik mean bean tetris machine western localization

See Tsu has been the Puyo standard since it was released. A TON of games and rulesets have come and gone, but pretty much all of those games just let you use Tsu rules if the community doesn't want the new stuff (and they pretty much never do)

See: Sun, Fever

That might be one reason, but balance is another. Puyo w/ hard drop would ALWAYS beat Tetris.

...

Instead Tetris wins 90% of the time competitively. The game isn't really well balanced with straight Puyo vs Tetris. I have a strong feeling that wasn't their biggest priority during development

that being said I fucking love this game

If puyo has hard drop enabled do they most of the time win?

I'm talking about Ranking battles, where you can't mess with those settings

Panel De Pon DS is better, but PPC was good too

>90%
It's more like 70%. Tetris isn't imbalanced in a "There's a blatant disregard for the level of junk one throws at the other" kinda way. It's more just Tetris has some ways it can win super early on based on luck and that while uncommon, give tetris the edge as far as win/loss ratios are concerned. Any match that goes on longer than a minute I wouldn't cry imbalanced about.

a 7-3 matchup is still a clear advantage though

Some dirty jap decided to ragequit on me when I beat him in the 2nd round of ranked versus mode. I laughed to the point of tears.

Oh, I don't mean to imply it doesn't have the advantage at all. It's a shame you can't take ranked overall stats seriously for that reason. I just wanted to clarify the reason why it's like that. An early all clear for tetris which does rely on luck will bury a puyo puyo player in too much junk early on to recover and make way too quick of work of them. You'll see a 50-50 on puyo vs tetris on games over a minute, which will be a majority of your games, especially outside of really high level play. The problem mostly just lies in that every so often the game will hand the tetris player a free win pretty much if they know how to use it and that skews things against them.

Playing Puyo Puyo is far from unwinnable.

>i will never be this good
youtu.be/weSOWpTwRTY?t=296

how do i puyo?

I used to think that Puyo was busted in comparison to Tetris until I learned about T-spins from this versus video.

youtube.com/watch?v=nUB53Zgg0Q8

That Puyo player frustrates me. He's good, better than me, but every time it comes time to deliver the finishing combo he fumbles it. He has the setup for like a 5 or 6 hit combo and keeps fizzling it out to only 3.

who is a good puyo puyo player to watch on websites? I'm a visual learner. cant grasp long essays on techniques.
I only know S2LSOFTENER, Shirobrawl, umtamadrummer. Id watch Sup Forums, but I dont think we have one

...

holy shit the tetris player is a fucking retard

nice aspect ratio

Your taste is as shit as his, but at least he doesn't pretend to take a high ground. P5 has a great dub.

>Playing Tetris mostly
>Play in a free match online
>Some rank 7000 dude shows up, name was like St2pid or something
>Shits out 8 chains in puyos in less than a minute

I've gotten a little better with Puyo, being able to get some pretty consistent 3 and 4 chains, but that was spooky.

Are the thinking sounds the sounds of a pulsing/mushing brain?

You just got wrecked by the guy who did tutorial videos for the game on Sega's youtube account

Please. For the love of god. Watch the tutorials in the game.

>nobody playing unranked

Maybe because it's late but that shit bummed me out

That must make Panel de Pon the Guilty Gear of puzzle games. Since they are both the best, and nobody fucking plays them.

He's off to a great start.
