why do publishers censor weebshit? do they not know who's playing these games?

is this really the hill to die on when it comes to localization issues? seems like such a minor thing

I don't care about it unless gameplay elements that aren't fanservice are removed.

Nobody in the west would get the reference to the light switch company.

The acronym KKK doesn't carry the same weight in Japan as it does in America.
In the former it's just a funny parody and a small reference but in the latter it's gonna be outright offensive to pretty much everyone.
Not to mention in the US players will ask themselves "the KKK exists in the SK universe?" while Japan won't give a shit and, again, will only see this as a reference.

Because you aren't allowed to have fun.

kys

...

>If you stand for one thing you stand for all things
Props for being that guy

But everybody hates that guy

localization =/= censorship sometimes shit gets changed cause non faggy weeb general audiences may not get the joke or reference to shit that and sometimes cultural difference where people may interpret the same shit differently.

So cause of that shit no one will ever be happy thanks to the internet making it so people will whine if shit gets changed just because it is not kept as 1 to 1 ass possible from the orginal version.

Which is ironic in a way since if people were to go back to pokemon when it first came out. Many of the changes to it made it the popular franchise it is today since in the west the localizers did shit that made it more appealing to the audience instead of being as accurate as possible.

Personally i only care when gameplay content is literally removed and made inaccessible since essentially that is selling a gimped product which is mad fucking gay.

>MUH CENSORSHIP

Fuck off and play video games you whiny faggots

>keep the faggotry to a minimum
>posts a twitter screenshot/cenorship thread

delicious. I hate cencorship myself but this is just virgin outrate because you feel threatened that women(the kind that avoid you) are "policing" your anime titties.

It's only 8am but I can say this will be the most autistic post I'll read today

So, which one is better?

Cut or Uncut?

I wouldn't consider that censorship.

@375072476

>whines about anime titties
>censorship wasn't about titties in the first place

(You) don't even deserve it

Uncut
>but muh smegmers
Fucking wash your dick, you heathen

"Localization" is a form if censorship.

That's a weird policy to have

Censorship is censorship

Not matter how small or insignificant looks.

Seems like a cool dude. I admire the conviction to stand by ones principles.

...

>uh,yeah, probably a good idea to get away from the Hitler thing
>TRUMP IS LITERALLY HITLER
--libtard twitter

Not an argument

Censored Gaming is a faggot of the highest order.

Either stand by your beliefs without hypocrisy or never do it at all.

But Facism don't believe in free speech.

They don't care. Bigwigs genuinely fucking think that censoring an anime-style game will make the normie put down Call of Duty and pick up Kawaii Quest 7.

I have to question what's the point of a rating system if you're just going to censor stuff anyway. I feel like the only reason any kind of censorship exists in videos games is because some people want to be babied and sheltered from things like sex, death and violence. Even though nobody is forcing them to play games that tackle those subjects.

>free speech
>fascism

>CAN'T CHANGE ANYTHING EVER
Well, at least he understands the correct mindset.

>There might be negative backlash if we put a racially sensitive name in this game.

>A presidential candidate with white nationalist advisors is currently running the white house.

Not the same thing.

Fake Science

animeshit is becoming more normie everyday and this "censorship" is really not a big fucking deal at all. Companies will always try to reach the most people because that's common business sense and changing an acronym to something else to avoid WE WUZ crowd is what you gotta do to keep your black weeb people buying then you do it

mice neltdown

Shouldn't we attempt to educate people that "hey yeah some awful groups use this acronym but at the end of the day it's just an acronym?"

It's like changing the manji symbol, even when it has no relation to Nazis, because some retards might get offended.

>animeshit is becoming more normie everyday
No, animeshit is becoming more "if you watch this you're a pedophile even though I refuse to look into the actual content" everyday.

First of all, censorship is external. This is localization. You might as well argue that using translation instead of the original Japanese is censorship as well.

>Hmmm, I think I'm going to localize this "You must be this Japanese to understand" joke into something else entirely.
>I don't want you to make this change to the script, tha's racis!
>WOOOOOW STOP CENSORING THE GAME I'M TRYING TO GIVE THE PLAYERS THE REAL EXPERIENCE

censoredgaming is sponsored by play-asia (just check their pinned tweet on twitter), they make a huge deal out of any localization change so that their lapdog fanbase buys the japanese version from play-asia to "fight censorship" but really just put their shekels into the pockets of censoredgaming and play-asia.

that was the 90s and 2000s due, weither you like it or not your anime shit is becomign easier to bring up in a normal conversation, even if it's just entry tier shit like naruto, DBZ, or one piece

If eh- if I had the opportunity, I would- if I was in an localization team, I would stand right up in my chair and I would say "FUCK UP- FUCK CENSORSHIP!"

...

And then what?
You're going to brandish your 3ft katana?

>You might as well argue that using translation instead of the original Japanese is censorship as well.
This is actually why they are mad. They still haven't learned moon so they lash out at translators even though the devs made this change without even thinking twice about it.

this, this thread is just giving them more publicity. There's enough people on Sup Forums who will see this and decide to support (((the cause))) that posting this will be beneficial to both censoredgaming and playasia

>What is self censorship

The japanese writers didn't intend tit to be a reference to a group of white nationalist reactionaries founded shortly after the American civil war, they intended it to be a playful reference to a company

American audiences wouldn't pick up on that joke/reference, and would only connect it to the KKK

to keep the spirit of the game intact, the person in charge of localization should change the name.

Well, I'm a modern leftist, so I love and heartily embrace all forms of censorship.

>Where do you draw the line when it comes to censorship, Sup Forums?

Over the genitals usually.

a Sup Forums-meme used exclusively as a fallacy, similarly to claiming something is psychological projection. It doesn't actually work like the way you're arguing it works.

That's a good question Billy.

How about we go back to 1993 when Joseph Lieberman was floating a legally binding game rating system.

youtube.com/watch?v=nD-Afpg4P2U

And now let's take a trip to 1994 after the ultimatum was placed before game companies to say what content is in their game

youtube.com/watch?v=WYC-UVu4rj8

Capitalism at its finest.

Wyrdwad is so autistic.

It worked for Pokemon

Well, do you?

>Sell localization in places other than the US
>game is still americanized
Can't wait for WW3, commiefornia is going to become the new Arizona

Enlighten me then. This should be good.

Localisation should be kept to sentence structure so that what is being said makes sense in English. Jokes and references should be translated literally and not localised at all.

This is kinda like the time where liberals were offended by the supposed KKK sign in a baseball game.

Americans are so stupid.

Americans are such unfunny faggots nowadays

I only care about censorship in good games, not fanservice kusoge

Ideally there shouldn't be any censorship, but I'm not going to throw a fit if cleavage on boxart is covered up or a bit of blood is removed from a scene. The original always exists on the internet for my viewing so it's not like I'm being kept in the dark on some big secret. I only really care if it gets to egregious levels like #FE or starts affecting the story like how the complete removal of blood made several scenes in Xenosaga 3 nonsensical, especially after the first game's "censorship" was actually gorier than the original.

>Jokes and references should be translated literally and not localised at all.
>I would rather read complete gibberish than have the people paid to rewrite a game actually do any work
Tell me more about how you're totally almost Japanese now, and references to cat robots and celebrity catchphrases don't go completely over your head.

If you care that much about the "original" content, learn Japanese. English is a pale imitation in the absolute best case scenario, and acting snooty about it makes you a fucking retard.

Well I didn't care for Akiba Beat since it doesn't have any loli and is going to be English dubbed only. Kinda stupid to change the name just because a few dumb muricans could get offended by the term itself.

>English dubbed only

Source?

He's immediately booed off stage and it's a gag. The game group continually uses the name.

Butthurt

>blaming Americans
>when every single case can be drawn back to an Israeli or Canadian

Nice try leaf

So a lie then

>Kinda stupid to change the name just because a few dumb muricans could get offended by the term itself.
There's also the fact that it's a reference to a Japanese company that would go right over the heads of 99.9% of people outside of Japan.

Why butthurt? I'm almost sure it's English dubbed since most games localized by XSEED are english dub only. Or did they confirm dual audio?!

99% of the "racists" shit Japanese do is them just copying American shit and not fully understanding it. They add blackface to everything because we had it in our cartoons and movies decades ago and Japan loves doing weird mimic of our culture. I'm 99% sure not one of the Japanese developers know what KKK meant over here. And even people that hate censorship most likely will feel weird about seeing KKK in a game when it has nothing to do with the Klan. People might hate name changes but personally this isn't really one to get upset about since keeping it would literally make you see the game differently than what you should feel which is dumb fun.

Yes you're right, I'm sick and tired of people assuming that when I say I'm going to my weekly KKK meeting that we're talking about lynching negroes and not kosher karate koalas.

I agree with this. The "KKK" in this case is just an unfortunate coincidence, so I don't think changing it is really going against the original intent, unlike most censorship controversies.

What planet are you on? Xseed has been doing dual audio for a long time

Read the post nigga. It's dual audio and picking jap voices changes back some of this shit.

Good then. Though no loli no buy still.

Except for Falcom crap.

No amount of censorship is acceptable, if you think otherwise then you belong on NeoGAF.

Just go play the japanese version you stupid weeaboos

FOR THE HUMPTHEEN TIME!
IT!
IS!
NOT!
CENSORSHIP!

CENSORSHIP HAPPENS WHEN A GOVERNEMENT, YOU READ? G-O-V-E-R-N-M-E-N-T! FORBIDS STUFF FROM BEING EXPRESSED!

IF A COMPANY LISTENS TO FEEDBACK AND REMOVES [X] THEN IT'S NOT CENSORSHIP!
IF THE LOCALIZATION TEAM SUBSTITUTE A JAPANESE WORDPLAY WITH SOMETHING THAT MAKES SENSE IN ENGLISH IT IS NOT CENSORSHIP!

NOT HAVING YOUR SLUT OF A WAIFU BEING DRESSED LIKE A TWO CENT WHORE IS NOT FUCKING CENSORSHIP BECAUSE IT IS NOT THE GOVERNMENT THAT IS MANDATING THE CHANGE!

this bait never gets old

look up self-censorship in case you're not just using stale copypasta

*starts sobbing uncontrollably over a meaningless acronym being altered*

>CENSORSHIP HAPPENS WHEN A GOVERNEMENT, YOU READ? G-O-V-E-R-N-M-E-N-T! FORBIDS STUFF FROM BEING EXPRESSED!

>control of what you say or do in order to avoid annoying or offending others, but without being told officially that such control is necessary:

dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/self-censorship

If this isn't copy-pasta and you seriously think that, you are a moron of the highest caliber.

>I AM SILLY

>5 hours total
ain't watching that shit nigga

>proceeds to spend the next 10 hours on Sup Forums

SELF CENSORSHIP HAPPENS WHEN THERE IS THREAT OF REPERCUSSION FROM A GOVERNMENT YOU FUCKING FAGGOT LOLICON PEDO WEEB THAT WANTS NOTHING MORE TO BE RAMMED IN THE ASS BY A 30 FOOT """"""""""""""""""FEMININE""""""""""""""""" DICK COVERED IN SANDPAPER

>Shows games no one remember outside of MK
>Nintendo throws Sega under the bus by saying they have a strong code of conduct on what they allow in their games while Sega does not
>Congress keep asking Sega why games like Mortal Kombat to exist not understanding they are made by different companies outside their control
It's honestly fairly boring but weirdly interesting if you are the type of guy that loves learning about video game history. Like reading up on Nintendo vs. Blockbuster with regards to rentals.

Lots of things are stupid.
Dumb giggleboob skimpy outfits are stupid, over the top gore is stupid and excessive foul language is stupid.
But people should have the freedom to create what they want.
People should vote with their wallets and not just omit things they're not comfortable with.
Criticise it, don't buy it, but don't censor it because you don't like it.

>No amount of censorship is acceptable,
Yeah, this is completely true.

Translation is, in itself, a form of censorship. If you play a Japanese game in English, or a Polish game in English, you're playing a censored version.

The people behind it may not have intended to censor it, but they've done it, however unwittingly.

The idea that a game can be translated without censorship is impossible.

I'm sure that sounded smart in your head

If it's meaningless why is it being altered?

>>People should vote with their wallets and not just omit things they're not comfortable with.
Games aren't art, so whatever changes are required to make them profitable are just par for the course.

There's no such thing as a game without cut content.

Sup Forums needs to learn english

...

>I hate censorship so I'm going to have my name censored from all future projects's credits
???

Censorship, by definition, is intentional.

The game was translated intentionally. They didn't "accidentally" rewrite it in English.

>My strongest conviction is the unjustness of video game censorship
you retarded weeaboos are fucking pathetic
