How so? Just because you're not jumping from one flat surface to another doesn't mean there's no more platforming. If you're jumping/flying from one place and landing at another it's still platforming. The platforms are just further away.

3D platformers were just babbys first steps into 3d engines, because nobody knew wat to do with them back in the day.
So they made the same platformers they made for years in 2d.

Not him, but Snake Pass and Rain World also both just came out.

Former is small but sweet and entirely-new from a gameplay-standpoint, and the latter is best indie of 2017 IMO (so far) if you don't mind the brutal RNG.

I mean if you use the loosest definition of a platformer then sure, but its hardly the focus of yooka laylee and the amount of actual platforming challenges in the game shows this, the focus is on minigames and the platforming aspects are basically just that, a minigame, hence "barely a platformer"

also I wouldn't consider something so easy to be "saving 3d platformers" otherwise skylanders has been saving 3d platformers for years
