I have never met another girl who celebrates that. Periods were embarrassing to talk about when you were a kid. Even around other girls, you kept it to yourself. I remember reading once in an interview with one game developer or another that storytelling is first and foremost a matter of focusing on the correct details.
He gave as an example Tomb Raider games. The games focus on the exploration, the mystery of whatever ruins she's lost in, the action that Lara Croft was going through. They don't tend to focus, however, on her arranging her luggage, deciding what clothes are worth bringing over, or calling a taxi and waiting for it to take her to the airport so she can take a plane to Cambodia or wherever the hell she's going.

This is a similar situation. It does not enhance the character nor the story, it merely dilutes it with pointless, undesirable elements that serve no real purpose that wouldn't be served better by something else. Storytelling is a sanitization of reality.

I gave an answer why. I don't like story games at all and this is just one of the most egregious examples of it.

It's a zombie survival story. It focuses on food, shelter, illness, and not dying to zombies. Its main character is a girl who at the start was young and is now going through puberty. Why can't they address her menstruation?
