>silencers reduce rifle damage
Silencers reduce rifle damage
>silencer
So is this the thread where we talk about how fucking awesome Escape from New York is, as well as Carpenter's other movies with The Thing being his best one
I guess not
But if we could make the gun louder would it do more damage?
We could talk about how to do a proper thing game since the current thing game isn't that good.
Also fuck the prequel.
>silencer increases damage
Oh boy the gun autists are already here. Load up a clip and shoot yourself in the head.
I'd love a Thing game that was a multiplayer coop game with proximity based voice chat. Each round it would randomize who the thing was and make different shit around the facility break so everyone had to split into teams to fix it/break up the group.
Like an objective based TTT
also yeah fuck the prequel
Suppressor infact increases the "damage" because the suppressor increases time of the bullet in the barrel.
Is it not supposed to?
I don't know shit about guns, spoonfeed me /k/.
I just want to take this opportunity to point out that Plissken's gun from Escape from NY is the dumbest gun ever.
>machine pistol notorious for its recoil and inaccuracy
>gigantic suppressor
>gigantic rifle scope mounted on the suppressor
>no stock of any sort so good luck ever hitting anything
A silencer is not a barrel extension, it's waffles and the bullet doesn't touch them as it comes out.
However a good explanation for in-game weapons doing less damage if you equip a "silencer" is that you switch to sub-sonic ammo, which has a lower velocity and energy, it packs less of a punch so it does less damage.
The Thing, Big Trouble in Little China, and They Live are all great.
>it's waffles
suppressors are waffles?
>aiming hurts more
A suppressor is practically a longer barrel which absorbs gasses, decreasing sound. Why would adding a longer barrel magically decrease the "damage" of a bullet?
trade the almost no sound for something bud, shame that the industry has made this into a meme
>using ladyboy rounds
MUH FUDDY FIVE AYY AYY ARR PEE.
Being educated on something makes you an autist now?
Yes. If you have an IQ over 80 you're autistic.
It's not a longer barrel. The whole point of the baffles is to reduce pressure. The muzzle velocity change between suppressed and unsuppressed is miniscule.
It could lower the damage if you were using subsonic ammunition, which is half of what makes a suppressor quiet.
Suppressors are usually made out of metallic waffles with a hole in the center through which the bullet will pass through without touching the waffles.
Obviously
>now
The retard's indignation spans history
It's B-affles, user.
Oh shit. My bad. Nevermind, just replace every waffle with baffle. Everything else I said is true.
why the bottom pic looks more gruesome than top?
>no stock of any sort so good luck ever hitting anything
Just use the sling as a stock. From what I recall that's how you're supposed to use the stockless MP5K, and it does work IRL.
Not him, and I know you're right but I've really gotta wonder how you knew that stuff but didn't know it was a baffle, not a waffle.
Please tell me how that came about
>almost no sound
what flavor are these waffles? chocolate chip?
>The Thing
>psyched as hell, loved the movie
>starts off pretty damn good
>reach 4th level or so, suddenly no more NPCs
>rarely find an NPC the rest of the game
>the nifty trust mechanic stops being of any importance 25% through the game
>rest of game is just shitty third person shooter
I've never seen a game start so good and go so bad like that before or since.
Being stupidly pedantic about accurate terms when everyone knows what you're talking about makes you autistic, yes.
>hanging out in my friend's basement
>up stupid late for no particular reason
>decide to start watching The Thing at 3AM
Holy shit was I spooked, but that movie is fucking awesome. All I heard was that the prequel used some CG voodoo bullshit so I doubt it's worth watching.
Wot do ya tink humie
I'm not a native english speaker, it's almost 2AM and have had a very long day at work and I really just don't know but I can tell you I was convinced the proper word was waffles instead of baffles.
Utter brain fart.
He's probably ESL.
>close range weapon
>hard to determine his exact whereabouts from gunfire noise because of massive suppressor
>don't need to bring a set of binoculars or anything, just use your gun to scope shit out
I don't see anything wrong with it, he wasn't sent there to get in a sustained long range firefight.
>pretends to understand firearms
>silencer
I had no idea how a silencer even worked.
That makes sense now.
Thanks.
That's fine, whenever you eat waffles you'll remember this, it will make a charming story to tell people over a delicious breakfast.
youd rather be wrong just cause its so slightly easier?
Most of the props were discarded for shitty and cheaper CG. Theres a video on youtube where the guys involved in the movie were upset that most of them werent used
I'm honestly surprised that hasn't happened yet.
>tfw dota became a genre based off an RTS mod and The Thing hasn't
It needs to happen right fucking now...
Tactical fleshlights.
>accurate
"No."
It's like calling all games "Nintendos".
Not very educated on guns considering I'm a Bong but are those stats with subsonic rounds?
>silencer on a revolver
Why is CGI cheaper than using props? I thought that modeling and animating CG was expensive.
Maybe he merged baffles and wipes, and made waffles?
Yeah I'll probably never make the mistake again.
Subsonic ammo is still pretty loud. Even if there is no sonic boom.
People overestimate how quiet suppressed weapons are because of hollywood.
They're not really a "psh" sound, they're just usually hearing safe so you don't have to wear ear protection when shooting them.
What's the last good scifi movie that was 90% practical effects?
>gigantic suppressor
It is big, but that suppressor is what the gun came with in real-life too, and it did work.
>tfw liberals in cuckifornistan and jew york are going to sideline the HPA based on stuff they saw in a movie 30 years ago
How the fuck did the NFA ever pass? Did hacksaws not exist back then?
hey gun autists, is it true suppresors break after being used a lot like in MGS?
I mean obviously wear and tear would get to them after a long period of time, but i'm talking like, is this why mounted 50 cal heavy machine guns and shit like that don't have silencers? they'll just break off after a couple hundred rounds?
It used to be. Its gotten leagues cheaper. You dont have to wait for props to be designed, molded, painted, and attatched to actors.
Just place a few dots on an actors face and thats it.
No, it was tested using standard .308 Win
...
>Live in Canada
>A guy's house was being fire bombed
>He fired shots into the ground with a revolver to scare them away
>When the case went to court they tried to claim he policed his brass
>The prosecutors didn't know that revolvers don't eject spent shells
Don't give them a fucking inch.
Well it might take substantially much more usage to break a weapon in real life, but yes. As with every single mechanical system in the world, it needs maintenance or it'll break down after enough usage, wear and dirt accumulate.
The most common parts breakages vary from gun to gun, as each design has its own weak points. Some firearms have sensitive firing pins that are prone to breaking, some have weak spots where cracks can show up after enough tension has been put into them, etcetera.
The reason why you don't see supressors mounted on a 50cal gun is because it's simply impractical. It wouldn't reduce the noise that much, it's an extra part that requires maintenance and doesn't really offer anything new. A 50 cal HMG isn't supposed to be stealthy, rather it's supposed to be loud and keep people's heads down.
Suppressors do have limited service lives too, but it's not like you have to replace them after 100 shots. Suppressor tech has advanced enough to have very durable pieces.
No, that decision was made for game balance. Suppressors aren't notorious for breaking, although they do require more maintenance and cleaning since they accumulate a lot of dust.
>people still seriously think a suppressor turns gunshots into 'pew's
They're still loud as hell and anyone on the block could hear it
Yes, and no because putting silencers on fixed machineguns is a retarded idea, also because a good part of those weapons' effectiveness comes from the psychological effect they inflict.
But...if you were in a life or death situation with a group of middle aged housewives and your survival was contigent on you holding a 360 controller...I bet you'd squeal NINTENDO NINTENDO at the top of your lungs.
Same thing with your autistic "cartridge" and "clip" difference. When it comes to brass tacks of the upcoming Great Syrian war...you'll call it what you need to survive.
Simple explanation:
Each gunshot puts a shitton of force on the baffles, knocking them around and out of place/alignment. So much so, most cheaply/illegally made suppressors are only really good for the first shot, and are much louder on the 2nd and 3rd shots, and pretty much don't work beyond that.
Now better quality suppressors will last longer than that, and many are designed to be disassembled so you can fix the baffles or replace them.
Its true retard, the bullet must be subsonic.
except it's not you fucking no guns yuro faggot
Warcraft had Parasite, Dark Deeds, and Metastasis which were all the same concept. A few shitty reboots exist in SC2 last I checked, but they weren't even close to the originals in terms of quality.
Actually a suppressor does increase velocity because of free-bore boost. The pressure inside the can is still a lot higher than in open air.
Suppressors do decrease accuracy because they increase shot-to-shot velocity variations, especially when it gets hot (hot barrels already open up shot groups and shift the point of impact because the heat increases the average velocity and changes the barrel tension).
Suppressors also increase accuracy by functioning as an imperfect barrel tuner and by stripping away gasses that are faster than the bullet. Except when the blast baffles are asymmetric, then it decreases accuracy (but is more efficient).
Suppressors also function as a lesser muzzle brake and the weight at the end of the barrel counters muzzle rise (but increases sway).
It's kind of complicated.
There is one particular silenced pistol, which the mgs tranquilizer design was based on, with rubber baffles that does deteriorate rather quickly through use. It also almost completely masks the sound of firing it and has been around since WW2 and is still in use in today's special forces.
How would you have wet dreams about shooting niggers if you didn't have a gun to cradle to sleep.
Wikipedia:
>Propellant gas heats and erodes the baffles, causing wear, which is worsened by high rates of fire. Aluminium baffles are seldom used with fully automatic weapons, because service life is unacceptably short. Some modern suppressors using steel or high-temperature alloy baffles can endure extended periods of fully automatic fire without damage. The highest-quality rifle suppressors available today have a claimed service life of greater than 30,000 rounds.[19]
MGS has them break after a mag or two of use for gameplay reasons. They don't actually just "snap off" or crumble into pieces either, they just stop reducing sound as well as before.
They do not increase pressure in a noticeable manner as to give the bullet that much more force. For simplicity I just omitted that.
The Welrod? Gun Jesus made a video on it.
Well yeah. In order to reduce the sound, the gun has to fire the round at subsonic speed
Deceit is a pretty fun game type like this.
Yeah that's the wone.
never heard of it
Subsonic speed will still kill anyone not wearing body armor, right?
It's surprising there are so many mods/maps that do The Thing, but nobody has tried to make a full game like it, license or no. But then I suppose there aren't many asymmetrical multiplayer games in general.
Depends on the shell's weight, the amount of energy it has when it hits the target, even its shape. Short answer is yes as long as it's within its designed engagement range.
>tfw this is literally my mom in the year 2017 after explaining to her what other consoles are multiple times
''Policed'' the brass?
I think they meant picking up the brass to not leave any evidence of him shooting the weapon.
I think it means "go around and pick up shell casings so as not to leave evidence" or something like that. I'm not sure what else it would mean if he's talking about a revolver
oh cool thx
plenty of suppressors, especially older ones, used rubber wipes that would get blown out over time.
A suppressor with a completely blown out rubber wipe will still reduce the sound, but not nearly as much.
Pillows actually are very effective at suppressing noise from gunfire. It's all about dispersing and dampening the supersonic gas escaping from the barrel.
Yeah, that's what I am talking about. The mods that involved social trickery were the best. I'm disappointed of all the different custom games that there was for BW and WC3, moda/dota became the big hit. I don't play SC2 Thing mods but I still play Mafia every so often. I would pay some big money for a great Thing game.
Reading an article on Wikipedia and then spewing it back at people like youre an expert makes you an autist.
Interstellar.
>It wouldn't reduce the noise that much, it's an extra part that requires maintenance and doesn't really offer anything new. A 50 cal HMG isn't supposed to be stealthy, rather it's supposed to be loud and keep people's heads down.
What a load of horseshit, .50 BMG suppressors are plenty effective and masking your shooting position better is always good, no exceptions. It's not done because it would require money and man hours to retune every gun to handle the increased chamber pressure, and militaries like being cheap when it doesn't involve fancy toys that are good for PR.
Shooting rifles causes permanent hearing damage and only recently have modern militaries given enough of a fuck to do anything about even though electronic hearing protection has been around for decades. It's not because it's impractical but because they just don't care. That's why 30 year old soldiers are coming home with 60 year old spines. Cutting corners at the expense of your men is the name of the game.
>suppressor doesn't reduce damage but does reduce range on weapon
These anons are correct. It means picking up your spent brass. The prosecution weren't aware that revolvers don't eject the spent shell casing after every shot. All of their gun knowledge came from TV and movies and they were trying to make the guy look like a criminal.
>not giving a source makes you an autist
>giving a source makes you an autist
gee willikers
Elysium
.45 ACP is a subsonic round (aside from special high-powered loads)
M1911 pistols & Tommy guns use this round, for example, and have killed tons of people over the years. Many modern handguns and submachine guns still use .45 ACP.
Aren't 50 cal HMGs open bolt anyway, those are not very effectively suppressed.
