How much money do devs make from Steam trading cards?
How much money do devs make from Steam trading cards?
None.
It all goes to Gaben's food fund
none, the only money made from those go to valve through the community store fee
t. a dev
what? then why would the devs put the extra effort into making the cards and all the extra stuff like backgrounds and emoticons?
because they (sadly) generate sales. there are people who buy games because they have cards or vise versa dont buy games, because they lack cards.
Then why does the price of selling something take a cut for both the devs and steam?
what do you mean?
that's pretty fucking sad.
Serious question because I'm starting to see people everywhere talking about trading cars.
What exactly DO the cards do? What is the point of collecting them? Is there any point aside from epeen points to show them off? They have monetary value so surely there is a reason people want them so much.
t. steam user for 10+ years
basicly epeen
same reason people grind in mmos, they like to see a number by their name go up
I don't believe you. I was under the impression devs made money from it, which is why devs started adding them to old games in the first place.
then dont, i have no reason to lie here.
also i stated the reason devs are adding those, some people get games just because of the cards
Once you collect the cards of a game you unlock secret levels, characters and weapons not available anywhere else.
Also having certain badges let you play sequel games 1 week before normal release.
Then tell us something else only a Steam dev knows. Steam Cloud costs money to implement, but is it a flat fee and how much?
as i stated i dont have to prove myself. believe me or not, this is on you
The minimum you need to sell something to get something back is three cents american (which I have seen plenty of when selling stupid crates), dunno what the mimimum price is elsewhere, but im all but certain there is a cut for both the developer and valve whenever you sell something, I think you were able to see the amounts back in an earlier version of the market
what games does this?
not for cards afaik, the non valve fee was on community made workshop items
having a high enough profile level, which you get from making badges from cards, opens up stuff to add to your profile
they don't make money from it directly. however it's an incentive to purchase, so it is theoretically boosting their sales. even if it's only by a little, it takes like not even half a day's work to throw up some concept art (many even just use in-game art) and flavor text, so there's little reason not to add them. it's like asking why devs add steam achievements if they don't make money every time someone unlocks one
Wait, I was 101% sure that some percentage went to Valve and some other went to the devs. They even say that when selling shit. What the fuck Gabe.
I did that quite a lot with extremely cheap games because I was actually making some profit with it.
name 63 games that do this
Bullshit.
t. have been in professional card selling business for years
What's the point of steam trading cards? I do not understand.
Selling them for free Steam bucks or crafting badges for internet points.
I can name exactly 0 is that enough
This is bullshit.
