The game itself, at least what I played of it, DID have plenty of wailing and gnashing of teeth in an attempt to make you feel sad about how dramatic and traumatic the entire situation is. It's just that in-game it came off more as annoying than anything else

the cinematics for WoW and Burning Crusade were focused on making the classes (the player) look like a complete badass.

I think the fact that every race is wow was spot on is what kept me coming back, each one had such a unique feeling and atmosphere in their zones. Whenever I think of playing again it's always based on picking a particular race and being pulled into their start zone and lore.
You really feel it in the vanilla trailer, the Tauren gives me the feels every time.
