10 FUCKING DAYS
10 FUCKING DAYS
>Unity game
>No promised Linux support
I'm also not convinced of how a rogue-like homage to Quake will play.
It comes out in 10 days? Where the fuck is the marketing?
never heard of it. what
>DUDE ROGUELIKE LMAO
Not saying it'll be a bad game, but when you consider the majority of FPS Roguelikes just came and went I have my doubts.
>Just randonly generated levels
>Sperglords think it's some FPS/Roguelike hybrid
Fuck the RIGHT off.
Blame the devs then because that's what they literally call it.
store.steampowered.com
>STRAFEĀ® is a roguelike first-person shooter pushing the limits of computer-generated photorealism and hardcore sci-fi action into unimaginable territory.
>ENDLESS CHANGING LEVELS! Randomly-generated levels are always different and violently unpredictable. Rooms, enemies, power ups, monster closets, and secrets move around every time you die and die and die and die!
>As a Scrapper on a impossibly dangerous mission at the edge of the galaxy, you only have one life to navigate all the nightmarish terrains of STRAFEĀ®. When you die, nothing will ever be the same again.
How is that not describing a Roguelike?
I think maybe releasing the trailer that has a weapon locked behind preorders wasn't a smart move, even as a joke. It was a joke, right? It doesn't look like one when you watch it but I can only assume it was one.
>market sounds like it's a remake of some old game
>it's actually not
>it also looks like hot garbage
why would anyone be hype for this?
marketing*
>try to cash in using old fps nostalgia
>randomly generated levels
Does it also release for PS4 tomorrow?
Well, I fell for it, you made me look up gameplay.
Thankfully, it looks like 100% pure trash
>report
>violates laws in your jurisdiction
>false advertising
>DUDE RETRO LMAO
This game will be overridden with normies who never played quake or unreal yet scream about how much they love old games.
Dusk >>>>>>>>>>> Strafe
Oh you're such a faggot. "Oh my god user you're such a hardcore gamer!" Fuck off you pretentious nerd faggot.
>Twitch shooter Quake style gameplay
>Randomly generated levels keep it fresh every playthrough
How is this bad Sup Forums?
Randomly generated games are trash.
because clones of actual good games are 99.9% low effort cash grabs
procedural generation in FPS games is garbage. the best part about old shooters was combing the levels for secrets.
it also means speedruns are out of the question as it's ENTIRELY dependent on your RNG
oh also the devs are cucks and the marketing is entirely ironic retro shillposting
neither of which disqualify the game, but are massive red flags, like a super hot chick with neon hair.
I don't think when people make games, they're accommodating for speedrunners. At least, they shouldn't
A Unity game with chunky pixel graphics and and procedural generation pushing meme-retro advertising as hard as they can? Sign me the fuck up m8!
>Bleeding Edge Graphics 1996
>Quake still looks better
And yes I'm including both the original 1995 DOS release and the super shiny and smooth Source Ports.
youtube.com
And I'm sure there's some purists who hate the Doom 3 style lighting of Dark Places but I think it looks great.
>dev is posting in literally any thread that sucks his dick in the steam forums
>ignores threads asking technical questions like if the game supports high refresh rate monitors or not
Randomly generated levels will never be as good as handmade ones.
That's the reason why no one liked chalice dungeons in Bloodborne.
>procedural generation in FPS games is garbage. the best part about old shooters was combing the levels for secrets.
i thought the best part about old school shooters was, you know, the fast gameplay, which strafe has
Looks like it would be awesome with multiplayer
the best sign of a shit game is that it fails to do ANYTHING better than the games that inspired it
Then expect the game to release with MASSIVE technical issues. Just you wait.
its unity, so it's only going to have all the same issues and features that a unity game does.
>unity
>some people actually think this is a good thing
>UNITY
lmao
right here
>it fails to do ANYTHING better than the games that inspired it
haven't played the game yet so i can't really say if its better or not but the "30+ weapons and 20+ enemies" seems like a definite improvement over quake 1's 8 weapons, 1 of which (the axe) is useless and 2 of which are straight upgrades to other guns, and quake 1's 16 enemies, 2 of which are puzzle bosses, and another 2 of which are just different variants of the same enemy. so if we're judging just by numbers and pre-release info, strafe does weapon and enemy variety better than quake
I'm looking forward to it, but Sup Forums will find any reason to hate it.
Rougelite games are fine and encourage replayability. If this ends up having the same level of polish that Spelunky has (but in FPS form) it'll be a pretty good game.
In fact I'm enjoying Immortal Redneck at the moment, which is like a better Ziggurat clone.
We need more rougelite fps games, a classic shooter with infinite replayability and tons of variety should be a dream game for fps fans.
With a lot of dull circle strafing and backpedaling while you whittle down the bullet sponge enemies.
>"30+ weapons and 20+ enemies" seems like a definite improvement over quake 1's 8 weapons,
Quality over Quantity user.
Quake 1 is a fucking masterpiece and I already know that Strafe won't be able to hold a candle to it.
The atmosphere, stages, and game design in Quake are superb. Quake's weapons are so good from a technical perspective that even Quake Champions is keeping everything the same except 86ing the Grenade Launcher (for now).
What do these two videos say about the gameplay Sup Forums?

>Think the idea actually sounds really interesting

Aren't Roguelikes popular because of enemy diversity?
Looks like a first person teleglich, a bit easier.
Why do people on here love Binding of Issac, Nuclear Throne, Enter the Gungeon, FTL, ect but this is suddenly not ok
Pretty sure those are the goombas of Strafe.
The second vid which shows a different zone has very few of them.
And to answer your question, I'm pretty sure rougelikes are popular due to the replay factor from RNG. Items, levels, and enemy placement are the big things that change in a rougelike/lite.
> like quake
> can only carry 2-3 weapons
Seemed interesting when they did the crowdfunding pitch, hope it's good
Because arena fps fags are purists who are afraid of change.
If it's not a straight 1:1 copy of Quake or Doom it's bad apparently.
yea just what i want, randomly generated levels without the benefit of a different experience.
youtube.com
This looks much better and doesn't have "rogue-like" shit.
Yes Dev, it's the old Arena FPS nerds that are making your hipster game not sell well. Despite it being a tiny community that'll be lucky if Quake Champions has even a decent sized community.
Or maybe it's because the Roguelike formula works for simple games that you play in short bursts while we expect something more well designed in FPS?
I don't know I'm just one guy. If I'm buying a new game next week it'll probably be Prey.
It's going to have trash level design and everybody will claim they never liked it to begin with after the realization sets in.
While I'd like to see both games succeed, I'd rather take the randomized just "ok" levels with unique gameplay mechanics over a literal Quake copypasta clone with poor level design any day.
This has also been in development for an long ass time by a group who want to make a game instead of make a buck.
>It's going to have trash level design
Didn't realize this thread has fortune tellers. Randomly generated levels never surpass handcrafted levels, unless it's a level from some D!ZONE CD.
I am perfectly fine with Randomly Generated Levels, but, especially for a FPS, they need to be PRETTY DAMN GOOD to keep my interest.
I've played Paranautical Activity, Rogue Shooter, Tower of Guns and Ziggurat, and none of them have kept my interest like Isaac first did. The rooms were either not good enough, or there wasn't enough variety.
Honestly I'd rather play Doom, there's so many maps that I never have to feel like I'm constantly replaying a map set.
I hope Strafe is good, but honestly from what I've seen, I'm not entirely certain it will captivate me.
>Quake 1 is a fucking masterpiece and I already know that Strafe won't be able to hold a candle to it.
Take off your nostalgia goggles faggot.
Have you played the pre-alpha demo?
The level included with it isn't all too great. It feels like a poorly thought out Duke level.
I only played Quake in 2008 when I had my own laptop for once.
Quake is one of the greatest game series of all time. And there will still be people playing Quake years from now. Champions is a blast to play.
No one will even remember this Faux-Retro garbage by June.
Can't wait to play this on my PS4.
>tfw there will never be a truly perfect rougelike fps
Doom levels made in Oblige played with DoomRPG is getting old guys...
And everything else is just okay to good, but not truly great. I've noticed that all rougelike randomized fps games seem to have lackluster no-oomph guns.
I don't understand, how hard is it to make your guns in game at least sound beefy?
I love how people think the game would be better if the levels were handmade.
How fucking different would it be by making rooms, placing item, enemies, and eventually a final boss with procedural generation? It's literally the same thing other than it being randomized. How would this game be 10x better if it was all handmade?
If the developers of Strafe didn't announce it being procedural generated levels and played It I guarantee you wouldn't know a fucking difference.
Fuck off, dev.
Are you retarded?
It's possible to know the difference, depending on how the levels are put together.
If you're doing something similar to Isaac in a Non-Zelda Like game, where it's rooms connected by doors with no cleaner transition between them, then it can feel obvious.
You also can't do maps which are bigger and flow better, being interconnected in unique ways.
I can't really argue if Strafe manages to do this though, since I haven't played it. Maybe once I can play, or watch some playthroughs, I'll be able to say whether or not if the procedural generation is done well enough.
Do you even know what Oblige is? It's a level generator for Doom. An automatic one.
My issue with Strafe is not the randomization, in fact I want that.
What I'm concerned with is gunplay. Weapons should sound good and feel satisfying to use. Strafe looks to have pitiful guns. The only ones that seemed beefy in their weapon vids were the flak cannon ripoff and the triple nade launcher.
>leave for an hour
>come back
>still devposting
lmao
Are we really going to have this conversation?
You can't tell when a game has actual level design versus procedural generation?
I hope you're trolling or getting paid to promote this game. Because for crying out loud everyone who has played video games knows the importance of good level design.
Fuck off. Why don't you try developing a game yourself instead of jerking it off to cartoon porn?
>Why don't you try developing a game yourself
I have a real job
It's pretty obvious that weapon is a joke. My guess is that it kills you along with anything else in the explosion.
You're a piece of shit.
>somebody will actually complete the game with the joke weapon
Calling it now.
Oh I'm sorry lemme help you:
STRAFE IS SO AWESOME GUYS IT'S TOTALLY WICKEDLY COOL
IMAGINE IF BORDERLANDS AND QUAKE HAD A BABY IT WOULD BE STRAFE!
GOTYAY! ALREADY BOUGHT THE COLLECTOR'S EDITION! HELLA F*CKING EPIC!
You will get banned for trolling.
>demo is 136 MB
there is literally no way that floppy disk actually has anything on it
>cassette tape
who the fuck has nostalgia for this garbage?
>pogs
see above
also
>all this merch for a game with no playerbase
>Having to enjoy a game with a playerbase
Well, now user. You got a lot of growing up to do. I enjoy a lot of shit no one else does and I don't give a fuck.
>shilling for a game that's already been paid for
>5000 people paid an average of $41 for this
more like "why would I want any of this dollar store crap". at least established IPs have some draw to them.
it's not like it has multiplayer anyway
>old school shooters was, you know, the fast gameplay
"Speed" doesn't add much to a game after a certain threshold. The selling point of all of the old shooters was having cool weapons* and well designed maps that offer a variety of unique encounters to make up for the limitations of the game engines in those old days of early 3D.
*STRAFE's "30+" guns are several variants of very weak sounding weapons you've seen one thousand times before (MG, shotgun, rocket launcher, nailgun, railgun, etc) with a couple properties you can tweak. Unlike Quake/Doom, you have ONE weapon at a time in STRAFE, only finding other weapons as temporary pickups with a few shots. So it's going to get monotonous quick.
>First video
Swarms of melee grunts you run circles around while looking for the exit in a bunch of samey rooms and hallways.
>Second video
More grunts, some rock guy bullet sponge (good thing he had that rocket launcher) and stationary guy that shoots once per minute in a map that has absolutely no aesthetics or landmarks.
Sure, the real meat of a shooting game will be in engaging enemies and weapons with good impact that feel fun to use. However, the only way you could mistake a computer-made map for a real one is if you go way back to Doom where the mechanics were very simple and the game was literally 2D, so Oblige can make a convincing map.
Try that shit with anything genuinely 3D, post-Quake and it will show from a mile away.
>more like "why would I want any of this dollar store crap". at least established IPs have some draw to them.
You fucking lost. Get the fuck out of here you retard.
Trolling? What are you talking about?
I'm just a normal user talking about my favorite new game Strafe!
Remember the date guys May 9th!
Why do you annoy the fuck out of me?
>try to play demo
>it's severely broken
>UI simply doesn't work
>severe weapon and helmet bob
>you don't even respawn after death
>You fucking lost.
I didn't realize we were keeping score.
Honestly because someone, probably (You) made these terrible posts that gave me cancer.
Pogs and cassette tapes are 1998 as fuck. They're really selling their retro branding with sharp moves like this that only people in the know will appreciate.
Fuck you. Keep talking.
So fucking funny.
Is this game seriously not out yet? I thought its release date was a year ago.
All I know about it is the edgy as fuck DUDE, DOOM marketing campaign
>1998 as fuck
>they themed everything around 1996
>BANNED COMMERCIAL
>Hatred made it through greenlight
BUY MY GAME, GOYIM
Fork Parker is, apparently, not even a real person, and is a construct by the Publisher, Devolver Digital, not the developers.
>look this tweet up
>it's real
>$25 fucking million
Who's gonna break it to this poor guy?
I expect I'll get it in a Humble monthly for pennies on the dollar at some point. And then just like every other randomly generated meme indie shooter I'll play it for 20 minutes to an hour and then never touch it again other than to auto-idle it for cards to auto-sell.
>you owe me a purchase!
i'm going to pirate this out of spite
>finally watched the commercial
y'know, at least Hatred was funny. this is just tasteless.
They've never actually heard of Fork Parker (or just did) and actually think this is real
youtube.com
This one is very heartfelt and arty.
literally idiots
Fuck this shit seriously.
Everyone who's followed it knows how the people making it are fucking clueless.
The use of unity and randomly generated levels like it's a good thing.
The shameless pandering to nostalgiafags who buy shit because it's lolsoretro.
It's not even correct in it's tone or visuals.
Aww shit forgot my
>implications
might be funny if the used the original song
probably not
i don't care if it's a real person or not, it's fucking stupid and annoying
It's a parody of Gears of War's/Dead Island's ad campaign
>i like this game and want to buy it, therefore i am shilling
