Hope it ends up good, I'd like more X-Com-esque games to play
looks more like nuxcom
Isn't there another new-old X-com game?
Gopller or something?

>This all goes back to the way the aliens are constructed. There are different cores, which Gollop calls “chassis”, and you’ll see different ones in different parts of the world. Africa has a chassis referred to as the Sphinx, which is based on a lion. But because these creatures are mutated mash-ups, that simply means it’s a tough, fast quadruped. It might have longer legs, borrowed from elsewhere in the animal kingdom, or human arms to hold a gun (and that gun will have been stolen from a human faction). If a gun-wielding sphinx manages to obliterate one or more of your squads, the aliens will stick with it, pleased with its efficiency. But if you find a new tactic or tech that takes out a whole bunch of them, the aliens will adapt.
Also apparently they have free aiming and actual bullet trajectories so even if you miss you can still hit stuff
>will there be a disc in the physical version of the game?
>no
uhh
When was the last time any PC game with a physical box actually came with something that wasn't a download code?
Staying cautiously optimistic
Neither Xenonauts or EU/EW was half as fun and engaging as the original
This is great and all but what's the crysalid of this game going to do?
I can't seen to find anything like that
Maybe it was just the working name for this.
All I remember is that is was something to do with the name Gollop.
Well I mean that is the name of the dude who made X-Com who's making this
>Phoenix Point is a lot more 4X-y, sort of open-world-y universe where you have different factions and groups, with their own objectives and agendas, technology, their own diplomatic relations, and things will happen in this world regardless of whether the player intervenes or not.
>It's a much more dynamics, systems-AI-driven world... In some ways, it's actually developed and evolved from ideas we built into XCOM Apocalypse back in 1997.
best strategic game ever made potentially
>game is fun and good
v will hate it.
>game is boring low budget mess
Every new xcom thread will be flooded with 'nu xcom is for babies' post And non stop shilling of this indi trash.
Someone at Snapshot likes The Mist
Where's my not-Rebelstar?
>game that looks like ass in genre that has been beaten to death and gameplay that never innovates
>nobody is talking about this
Gee i wounder why.
>beaten to death
as opposed to all those other "fresh" genres like racing, shooting, beatemups, platformers and rpgs.
>that has been beaten to death
There haven't been all that many games like X-Com outside of the two reboot games and Xenonauts
yea, bordering on copyright infringement
That sounds cool on paper but to me it sounds really breakable. Do a cheesy counter to a weapon aliens might be good with, so they choose to stick to shittier tactics for the rest of the game.
Not saying it's a bad idea at all, I've always wanted something similar to it. But it does sound like something that can be used to cheese.
>has been beaten to death
What are some recent XCOM-style games?
All I know are the 2 fireaxis XCOM games and Xenonauts, then you have a gap of more than 10 years from the 90s XCOM games
Yeah because you can get a rich history and innovative gameplay mechanics in a game that is basically checkers with kewl graphics.
Glad we agree.
WOW
I CAN'T WAIT TO PLAY NOT X-COM
AGAIN
...
>cheesy counter to a weapon aliens might be good with, so they choose to stick to shittier tactics for the rest of the game.
so you mean the aliens will pick the superior tactic?
A better strategy would be to bait them into using an inferior tactic, maybe byletting rookies or something die to it.
Then when you really need to, just obliterate them in the late game.
So like Xenonauts but not shit?
>played xcom eu for hundreds of hours
>very excite for xcom 2
>price just won't fucking drop
>finally get it in humble monthly
>oh boy here we go
>2-3 hours later
>oh boy this is shit
The world map being filled with stuff to scan all the fucking time killed it for me. The gameplay was there and the limited time wasn't that bad but the management part blew up.
>old dev getting back on the saddle to make a spiritual successor of a beloved franchise
Oh yeah. Because that's worked SO WELL every other fucking time it happened.
>th-this time it's d-d-different!
No, it isn't. Expect trash because that's what it's going to be.
>literally ripped artwork
except unlike the hack behind star citizen, Gollop has actually been designing games before this crowdfunding campaign.
uhhh
