Why do some people persist?

Anybody know why some people keep doing the whole "youtube personality/let's player" thing when they consistently get very low views?

Sometimes you'll just stumble on someone, see them bang out a 30min+ video talking at length about something and then you see >13 views and just think.... why? What's the point? Do they not realize that they're talking at air?

I feel sorry for them

Op, I've tried to wrap my head around this multiple time, but I can never come to a consensus.
It's a weird feeling, one of cringe yet pity.
As a drawfag (not an active one) I fear that I will one day end up like these "air talkers" with out even knowing.

Is she any good?

The only thing I can guess is these people are just recording whatever they're playing and then uploading it. I doubt this woman is editing hour long videos every day just to get 1-10 views.

Though it is a bit sad. I've personally done one uncharasmatic unregistered hypercam 2, 100 part letsplay from 2009 to the end of 2011 and uploaded one video every week. I completely stopped uploading videos in 2011 when I started University and never got back to the channel since graduating and I'm still getting 700 views per months whereas she would need to upload 70 videos to get that much.

I have a friend who does this, and I asked him pretty much that exact question.

He said that he found them fun to make. He knew he had next to no views, but the videos were still fun to make and edit, and he found that games are often more fun when you can vocalise your thoughts, describe the situation, make up funny stories etc.

it's really not that sad, it could just be in the vein of a diary or some other fruitless hobby

>girl doing it
this vexes me

Everybodys gotta start somewhere.
Its pretty hard toget the initial snowball rolling on youtube since most users wont even click on something not already doing well.

maybe they genuinely enjoy video games and making the videos...kek

Don't forget that the youtube algorithm actively dissuades new users from getting any publicity, because it favours popular uploaders that are going to generate millions more views

youtube.com/watch?v=1aEDopsLhNg

For some it's delusional desperation because they honest to god think they'll make it and hit the big time, so they persist.

For others though it's a legitimately fun thing to do and a creative outlet. It brings both comfort and a challenge that can be beaten. You form a goal, put in effort and reach it. If your mindset immediately wonders why they're bothering if they aren't making money or fame, then consider why you "waste" time with entertainment yourself. Instead of watching movies or playing vidya they've decided to waste time on projects since they enjoy them. Which is completely fine. The first option and second are both likely reasons as to why people do this.

I make videos for fun. Sometimes I just keep them private or don't upload them at all.

Fuck off, Nora.

Your statistics mirror mine pretty closely, though you have about 100k more views and like 60 more subs. My watch time is 1497 and views are 906 right now though.

I started out doing it in the hopes of growing, but never took off, probably because I'm not going to overreact and fake scream my way to the top. I just upload whatever I feel like sometimes.

>someone doing something they find fun is sad

man why do people play baseball if they aren't even professionals making millions a year? that's so sad!

It kinda is, baseball is shit.

I feel sorry for her because it makes me think of an artist/singer/whatever trying and failing to make it

>why do people play video games if they aren't professional korean esports players making millions off tournaments

>why do people post on Sup Forums if they're not interested in video games

those all look like relatively niche games. it seems to me if she were trying to be famous she'd be playing the latest popular titles instead of indie games no one has ever heard of.

>upload one random anime clip
>1500 watch time 2k views a month on that alone
how do you even be successful at youtube now with all the bloat.

In some cases they're really passionate and they're trying to grow the channel slowly.

In most cases, like this one, they have no clue what they're doing and pretty much just go in with the ultimate goal of making money or becoming famous which means they're dead in the water from the start because they're going to upload generic cookie cutter shit they 99.9% of people are also doing

It will always start out slow.
You think markiplier got 15 million subs 3mil views on his first video?
No of course not, he streamed horror games for ages he went through the whole 30 viewers per stream phase like anyone else.

The whole point is; with each video they run the chance of getting newer people who are interested in the new content and tend to go back and look at other videos if they enjoyed the one they watched.

Streaming and youtubing is always a snowball effect.

Looking at her videos at least she is consistent and seems to like doing it judging on how much she uploads.

At least she's trying.

Why haven't you made it yet?

one part luck, one part advertising your videos yourself on communities that would be interested in your content.

Not eveyone does youtube videos for views.

Some people do it to express themselves or to be able to talk, the same way people write personal diaries.

Some people do it to bond with others. I've came across a father doing let's play with his son to bond with him which I thought was a cool idea.

She has over 400 videos and it seems her views are actually going down per month despite the fact she's doing current/relevant indie games.

I think it's the case she's and most of these 1 view people are not doing anything to make the videos stand out, even the titles are bland. One thing I found with my channel is that just plopping out "Lets play [insert game] part 1" will bury you. But even if you're not an e-celeb if title the videos exactly around what people are going to search for you're going to gain a lot views.

If you post a video around a certain part of the game people get stuck on, include that in the title. People are going to search for "Undertale Sans fight" and if you're the first person to have bothered naming your video "LP Undertale part x: let's fight Sans!" you'll get the views even if you have the charisma of a lawn gnome.

>have 1k plus subscribers
>my views never go past 20 per video
>with the exception of one I made in like 2010 with 50k views that hasn't gotten any views since then
>losing 1 or 2 subscribers per week constantly

I seriously don't get it.

What? Can't I genuinely feel sorry for someone without feeling smug or whatever you're imagining about it

This is true when it doesn't apply to video games. Are there passionate small YouTube channels that talk about tabletop games, books, or other hobbies? Yes. Video games us another story. It's inherently something you do if you're trying to make money or get famous.

>let's play channel has 500k subscribers
>only gets 5k views per video on average

But my videos are a great source for gamer news :)

>tfw livestream.com was a new thing and I was 18 I used to stream random games to Sup Forums and a decent amount of people would watch and enjoy it and no one complained about shilling because the concept of streaming wasn't completely ruined yet. I would just make a thread that I was streaming and some people would come watch. can't do that shit anymore.

Keep your feelings to yourself. You might think you're showing how compassionate you can be but you just come across as an arrogant cunt.

youtube.com/watch?v=zcGH0xikPl8

????

Its not like I'm going to look her up and tell her I feel bad for her. I'm honestly confused why you're having a problem with what I said.

tfw I've made multiple youtube channels with millions of views over the years but I never made any money off them because I did that either before youtube bux was really a thing or I used copyright shit that would get me in trouble.

Then you know they do it because they enjoy it and not as a job. That has some value of its own.
This isn't the youtube board, though. Go peddle your e-celeb cancer elsewhere.

Do something worthwhile instead.

Maybe they are enjoying it.

Like people posting here without ever getting any (You)s.

because NIGGER NIGGER NIGGER BIG.BLACK NIGGER

I'm quite satisfied with my career. Am I not allowed to feel bad for someone?

>find this little slut that does let's plays on a AVGN episode comments
>around 5 views per video
>waifu her and watch her stuff every week
>forgot about checking on her one day
>days passed without checking on her
>see this thread
>decide to check her channel
>2k per video and now dyes her a different color every video

WHY

quit shilling your channel op

I don't think it's possible to post often and never get (you)s

post your waifu so i can jack off to her.

Blogging reasons. Why do you think fc2 still exists when there's Twitter?

*dyes her hair
Fuck no, I already feel ntr'd enough.

>Pewdiepie has 55 million subscribers
>less than 5 million views per video on average

cmon dude share the love. we're bros, right? you're supposed to share everything with your bros.

A lot of people treat subscribing like a bookmark. They favorite and forget.

try visiting the path of exile general
don't

Female streamers are dumb for video games. They don't play games actually, they just act slutty and show their cleavage so will horny retards give her $$$.

>youtube.com/channel/UCE1J4HnYInud9_y6CJPONXw/videos

>Literally 0 subscribers

Should I sub out of pity?

50 million of those subs probably had their 6th birthday and stopped watching pewdiepie

>
That's a lot of (You)s.

Don't! She's a female and stupid.

I want to leave a comment on her latest video that just says "Whore."

Not getting (You)'s when I put a lot of effort in trying to help somebody on Sup Forums makes me feel awful.
If I had a youtube channel it'd make me feel even worse since my efforts would be documented for everybody to see and my non existent audience would make me feel ashamed.
I guess I'm just an autist with social anxiety though.

With that much focus on her drawing and being called Whora Plays, I at least expected some commentary.
She just plays random indie shit for 1 hours in silence.

okay, she doesn't even talk in the videos. no wonder no one gives a fuck. it's just hours of watching someone play a game with no commentary. probably autistic and not even really a girl, too.

And no webcam.

channels like this have no real something that would keep you watching it

she'd be at 500k if she would show her face and a bit of cleavage

>having a webcam on you as you sit and play a game in complete silence

You can do whatever you want my mans

>Anybody know why some people keep doing the whole "youtube personality/let's player" thing when they consistently get very low views?

Ex did this for a while after she lost her job. tl;dr Financial support in exchange for better sex until she got fat, lazy and entitled.

Maybe she wouldn't be silent if she had a webcam.

It doesn't take much to get a ton of subs as a girl.
>webcam
>dress in something qt
>don't act like a complete antisocial retards

Usually when that happens is a sign of something going on with you.

Please explain why they don't (you) there, I thought it was just one person at first.

Oh yeah, voiced let's plays are so much better.

It's a competitive sport with measurable statistics that highlights your skills. You don't have to go pro to be good at it. Streaming is a different thing altogether where you really only have one route with it and if you can't make your ONE measurable statistic look good it encompasses everything else and shows you aren't cut out for it.

I don't even know why I took this bait, though. You've probably never hit a ball in your life.

what the fuck are you talking about

Lmao, a (You) is nice, but doesn't matter. This isn't reddit, so you know there had to be a good chunk of people who read your post, or at worse, glossed over it.

I'm a nobody on Twitter, but I've got tweets with thousands of interactions despite not any mentions for them.

Well, there's obviously nothing wrong with uploading videos regularly and not getting any views. Perhaps you feel unsatisfied with whatever you do and are projecting on the person you feel sorry for. I say you should take a long hard look at yourself and figure it out.

They are the same as you if you record your video game playing.

People with no friends, they just post in Youtube because they want to attract attention, not like you that you want to avoit it.

Because, when views come, they don't stop coming.

hahaha joke's on you, I didn't even gloss over your post let alone read it.

Fucken slammed, kid.

I stream most of the games I play even though I usually get

She's been doing this for a whole year and has no subscribers. Goddamn I feel so bad for her

>Projecting
I'm getting tired of this meme. I even miss when everyone was misusing the term "falseflagging". Now they're doing it with Projecting.

It doesn't help that I haven't heard about a single one of those games.

They play so many games though to their viewers it's a matter of watching what they are interested in or find may have good opportunities to laugh

no it's not, plenty of people talk about games, game design, their experience with games, their thoughts on specific events or figures in the industry, etc.

because of recent political events all the big social media and content sites have had to seriously game their algorithms to ensure no wrongthink is suggested to anyone. this leads to a lot of small channels getting buried, even if they aren't remotely political. but they're small channels, so youtube doesn't care.

>play game
>save footage
>upload to youtube
>forget about it until the next game

You faggots are talking as if she's sitting there watching the viewer count or she opens her purse to get a cup of coffee and finds she has no money.

making videos is just a hobby for many people. recording, editing etc. is a way to pass the time 'productively' and if you end up getting views then it's a bonus

I've been streaming on twitch for about 5 years now - give and take a large sum of months where I stopped giving a shit.

I average about 5 viewers, still. This is probably due to a few reasons, but the main one being a lack of set scheduling, and playing what I want to play.

The amount of cool people I've met is not measurable. I've interacted with people from all over the globe, gotten to know some more intimately. Those memories keep me going - since I know I'll be able to make more, and I have, consistently.

I've said it for 5 years - the day when I just get no one rocking up - that's when I hang it up. Until then, I'll keep trucking, because it's fun.

>I guess I'm just an autist with social anxiety though.
At the point where you are consciously arguing with yourself, you are not an autist.
Autists are blissfully unaware of their situation. I mean, otherwise they would have already hero'd themselves, right?

>at worse

>you're only allowed to do something if you're extremely successful at it

that's not even getting into the fact that the youtube/streamer cash train is long gone, people only watch channels that are established with big followings, no one gives a shit about small channels

Keeps them occupied, I guess.

thank god my streaming ambitions start and stop with like, showing games off to a few of my friends

Is this shit time consuming to do? Isn't like a full time job for a lot of these internet personalities

>americans call sticky wicky situations worst rather than worse

Former small Youtuber here. It was just an excuse for me to play my retro game collection and talk with my roommate about games. That's it, just a fun time killer.

You're legitimately fucked in the head, seek help.

It's not a meme, it's a term used in psychology and is rather common among people.

Yeah but she edits these videos. The recent videos have a splash screen showing comments that requested her to continue

>steam games for a few friends
>after a few hours actually get like 50+ viewers everytime
>some asking me questions like when im gonna stream again and how they can subscribe

It is if you think of all the business aspects that have absolutely nothing to do with sitting on your hoop and playing a game. This girl uploads largely unedited video and has a thumbnail template that she slams a game image onto.

>screenshot
>crop
>copy
>paste
shiiiiiiieeet

I already knew from just her gay little avatar on the very first thumbnail that she has zero quality video.

To answer your question, it takes years to become successful at youtube, you need a break, you need to get noticed and get a publicity bomb somehow... but it only happens if you have a decent amount of content.

>insecure people who spent the weekend alone looking for self esteem boost
nah nigger, some people do things they enjoy regardless of success

then you have the sociopaths who are successful and just do everything that keeps them on top

i'd rather be the one doing what i love , you have fun being a complete poser latching onto some stupid eceleb who has a million views, solely because of those views

>>screenshot
>>crop

You're missing the point
