The DLC is the only thing that's top 20 worthy. Main game is only above average.
You can play 2 before 1 but you'll never go back 1. 2 is just improved in every way. You'll just not get some references and the characters will be new to you even though they had parts in 1.

I enjoyed X&Y more than most people and I remember it being very linear with very little side content. Gen IV and V were kind of hit and miss for me.
whoah dont cut yourself on those edges. you may not like it, but TW3 is objectively one of the best RPGs ever released. i'm not saying it's the best (swordplay was too simple imho, should've been more like DS/BB), but it's definitely up their, especially when you include the DLC which is the best DLC i've seen in 10 years probably.
XY has way too much gen 1 pandering and mega evolutions ruined the game. The artstyle and performance were also trash.
Finally the exploration was somehow (imo) worse than SM.
