It's scary as fuck. I still piss my pants while playing it even though I'm 15 yrs old.

(USER WAS BANNED FOR THIS POST)

Music/sfx, puzzles, environments, story, horror.
And atmosphere.

>I'm 15 yrs old
wew

but you have to be 18 to browse this site user
you will get banned

Not really sure why you think its so offensive for a 15 year old to be on Sup Forums.
I'm 22 myself but lemme guess, that's too cringy right? I should be at least 30 or 40?
Fuck outta here retard.

i don't think it's offensive, i don't care
but people get banned when they admit they're younger than 18

>t. reddit

It's just a good game.
Decent story, atmosphere, gameplay and enemy design.

Yes

I don't know why, but any time I get the good ending I sob uncontrollably because of its bitter stalemate.

fun puzzles, good story. spooky, and help to create the survival horror genre. Plus one of my favorite ps1 games

we have rules on this website user
today, you are the retard

It's actually pretty shit now that I think about it. SH2 is good tho, only for the dog ending.

put me in the screencap

>What's good about this game, aside from atmosphere?
Just about everything to be honest.
SH1 > all the rest.

-Largest, most interesting and varied town sections.
-Best pacing out of the whole series; the slow beginning and Apartments in SH2 really grind people's gears.
-Great, varied major locations (School, hospital, sewers...)
-Better enemy and boss variation, all of 'em are fairly dangerous
-Nicely balanced difficulty, both action & puzzles.
-Scary as fuck, full of mindfuck parts as well
-Great visual design, full of small details.
-Awesome soundtrack and audiowork in general.

You're wrong. SH2 is like a standalone expansion pack to SH1, and way less scary + notably easier to boot.

I was playing this then got sidetracked with other games. Jumped back to it and suddenly I'm fighting the cop (Cyril?) as a boss. Controls are all
Wack and foreign again though. I want to play SH3 but feel like I'm
Supposed to finish the first. How much left is there of SH1 after the cop boss? (Not sure if my save file deleted as well )

It's all around a pinnacle of the survival horror genre, right alongside with REmake. Superb art-design, awesome soundtrack and audio work, nicely challenging, and spooky af. Tons of replay value as well, thanks to multiple endings, unlockables, and numerous small details and symbolism you easily can miss on your first playthrough(s).

Now that is out of the way, let's repost the handy SH PC Guide + the DL links to games:

Mount the ISOs of 2 & 3, and then run their installers like always.
The SH1 is a PS1 rip that you gotta emulate.
The "sh2proxy" is a all-in-one fix, that works as a no-cd crack as well. It is included in the pack.
If you use the NEW fix mentioned in the guide, you can use the sh2proxy's EXE as the no-cd crack!

In case you experience issues saving the game / not being able to edit the disp.ini, make sure the files aren't set to "Read Only", and run the game as Administrator.
If SH2 gets stuck in a black screen upon launch, close it and re-start it again.

SH2-4 do not support Xinput gamepads. Either use Xpadder, a DirectInput pad, or just play with KB+M.
You can now see some decent emulator settings for SH1 as well in the guide. If the image of the game does NOT fill your entire screen in fullscreen mode, check your plugin AND GPU control panel's image scaling settings!
Also give the new PGXP emulator a shot for a lot less wobbly PS1 graphics.

> feel like I'm supposed to finish the first.
You NEED to.
You're almost done.

It's almost at the end.

There's like 3 or 4 endings though, chances are you'll get a non-canon one if you haven't paid a lot of attention to ingame stuff.

you get to the final area afterwards

Ah shit, pretty sure my Save file is fucked. Start again or what? Also I've got SH3 on the had collection on both PS3 and 360. Got no computer so these two are my only options - anyone know if SH3 runs better on the ps3 or 360?

It isn't exactly brilliant in the gameplay department but everything else is fucking superb.

If its been a while since you played it last then sure. Do not play SH 2 or 3 from the HD collection, they are awful.

You're literally at the end. Just one more area of puzzles called Nowhere.

I hope you at least saved that scumbag Kaufman.

Don't even joke about playing the ''HD'' ports, mate. They are the most embarrassing shit ever released with that word on the cover.

>Also I've got SH3 on the had collection on both PS3 and 36
...the HD collections?
Please dear lord DO NOT fucking subject yourself to that crap! Image very related, and only scratches the surface.

ANY kind of PC made in the past decade would run the PC ports.

HD REMASTER WHEN??
and NO, being blurry, jittering, polygon porridge does NOT make the game extra sophisticated.

you can run silent hill 2/3 on toaster
but if you actually literally don't own a computer, wait until you get one
or just a ps2 with the originals
just don't play the hd remake, its not worth it

SH2 > All the others

I don't think there's any relevant difference. But dude, you're really doing yourself and the games a disservice by playing the "HD" version of SH3. SH2 is SOMEWHAT acceptable because, ignoring graphical glitches and stupid decisions, you can at least still use the original dub, but with 3 you're stuck with the new awful one, and the game has this weird problem that suddenly makes you walk either too slow or too fast because the framerate is all fucked

You have a PS3, right? Don't those read PS2 discs? You could pirate the games and play them that way if you don't have a PC

>Start again or what?
Yeah. The game can be easily ran through in less than 2 hours if you know what you're doing. Might just as well pay more attention to the surroundings and plot this time around, as you prolly missed something.

>Also I've got SH3 on the hd collection on both PS3 and 360
Jesus fuck, why would you do that?? Why would someone give money for THE biggest blunder of the century, twice?!

>anyone know if SH3 runs better on the ps3 or 360?
PS3, simply because Xbox one never got patches. But don't expect it to be much "better" anyway; the tech and graphics are still a mess, and you have to deal with the awful, awful new voices + terribly remixed soundtracks.

Never ever, because Konami has never cared for Silent Hill in the first place.

Also, in native form, SH1 is not "blurry". It's crisp as fuck. And I do honestly think that the low-poly, low-res visuals add to the eerie, uncanny feel.

Thanks for using my ancient screencap compilation tho!

>You have a PS3, right? Don't those read PS2 discs?
Not him, but ONLY the first, "fat" release versions of PS3 ever ran PS2 discs. All the other versions cut the feature out completely.

I find it a bit disturbing people don't remember this anymore. Only a bit less so than the fact that some Anons didn't know that PS2 runs PS1 discs tho'.

>You have a PS3, right? Don't those read PS2 discs
I think only one version of the ps3 could play ps2 games and those were prone to get the ylod
I doubt he have the one that can

Jesus. And people praise Sony because "the PS3 is still alive" and all that shit

...

I've only emulated before and haven't used cracks like this. I'm going to give it a shot, thanks user.

No one liked their business practices of 7th gen in the first place, but PS3 is still way better investment than 4. At least it has a impressive gaming library, and ALL PS3 versions still do run PS1 discs. And they also have notably bigger PSN store library, which for some weird reason is NOT accessible on PS4.

This stll gives me shivers after all these years.

youtube.com/watch?v=4W3wjmswJNQ

Attaboy. Have a good one!
It really ain't as hard as it may seem at first glance. Just install games, drag & drop the "patches", adjust maybe some numbers in text files if needed... and vola!

I played it last Halloween: it's a pertty good game, entertaining story, decent puzzles, great atmosphere. I think it holds up pretty well.

Yeah, can't deny that. I meant people act like Sony is deeply caring and still helping support the PS3 with games, as if they made P5 or the latest sports game rehash (and as if the latter ever matters). But to be fair that's mostly for the sake of shitting on the Wii U by comparison

Btw, got me curious, is the PS4 backwards compatible instead?

>is the PS4 backwards compatible instead?
No.
At all.

>is the PS4 backwards compatible instead
No, they went full jew and you have to buy a (((psNOW))) subscription in order to play PS3 games. In streaming. I still like the PS4 thought, and you can find a ps3 pretty cheap these days. the PS3 can also be hacked fairly easy from what I've heard.

beautiful

MODS = GODS

Yeah but no one should admit it obviously. It's like the easiest way to get B&.

I see. It's a shame what were once considered basic features are so rare nowadays. Cost of progress i guess

BECOME AS GODS

ps1 and ps2 is region locked, can be softmodded though
ps3, psp, vita and ps4 is region free
ps2, ps3,psp and vita can play ps1 games
ps3 phat 60 GB can play ps2 games

Fucking sound design man

it's even more bitter irony knowing that it was Sony that pretty much spawned the whole backwards-compatibility thing with PS2, which meant that people could use their already existing, vast game libraries on the next-gen console, thus making it a complete upgrade.

Nowadays, it seems like instead of offering this handy (and fairly easily + cheaply provided) function, they instead want to generate even more cash by making people buy exclusive ports of their old games, again.

It's one reason I'm sticking to my old consoles with claws and teeth now, and also why I actually ended up grabbing a 2nd-hand WiiU just now: having a single system that can run games from 3 generations (GC-WiiU) natively, and who knows how much more via homebrew emulation, is just amazing deal IMO.

...

Oh, i wasn't asking for usefulness, i still have my PS2 slim. Although i should get around to soft mod it, burning discs can be a pain, and some PS1 ones have errors on pirated copies.

I'd like to add some even less known facts about this:
>PS3 consoles that had a physical PS2 emulation chip were never even released in PAL regions
>later PS3 versions used software emulation but this was eventually removed in a system update for no given reason
>neither physical or software emulation were 100% accurate or bug free

>no reason
Manufacturing costs, I think.

I guess they did have to cut some corners before the thing could bleed them dry

I mean it did take them like three years to profit from it.

...

any reason to go for the PC versions over emulating PS2?

Widescreen mods. Probably better textures?

>manufacturing costs
>for digital software
But seriously though, we "know" what the reason was -Sony thinking the emulation would eat their digital PS2 game sales- but I just wanted to stick to facts in that list.

The atmosphere is like 90% of what makes a good horror game, that's basically what it did right the most, that and great sound direction. The gameplay isn't anything great but I do think it's controls slightly better than the PS1 Resident Evil games.

>(USER WAS BANNED FOR THIS POST)
It's been a while since I've seen one of these.

wew

>>PS3 consoles that had a physical PS2 emulation chip were never even released in PAL regions
it wasn't emulation chip. It was a legit E.E. chip.

They're native PC games. Meaning they require a fraction of processing power and tweaking to run smooth.

worse fog

Much, much lower system requirements, FMV cutscenes actually work properly, and flashlight's light is all smooth & round instead of choppy and blocky like in PS2.

PS2 version footage for comparison.
Even 6 years old craptops with mere i3 and Intel HD Graphics 3000 could run the PC ports smoothly with no problems at 720p (or higher).

>FMV cutscenes actually work properly
they work properly if you enable some setting in PCSX2

>Also, in native form, SH1 is not "blurry". It's crisp as fuck.
Stop using shitty emulators.

>worse fog
you mean in the PC version?
If so, someone hasn't heard of the ages old Fog Fix.

which tends to break OTHER things.
It hasn't been more than couple months since I last tried. Not to mention you can patch-in high-FPS FMVs into PC port.

Stop using blurry ass filter shit.

>Stop using blurry ass filter shit.
I don't use any filters, and in the original hardware the dithering is completely intentional and makes the game appear foggy.

>which tends to break OTHER things.
like what? all it does is switch how FMV's are displayed, then turns it back to normal when the video ends.

>you will never be this new

I wasn't talking about dithering. That stuff belongs in SH.

Texture filters, CRT shaders and such? Disgusting.

>(USER WAS BANNED FOR THIS POST)
AYY

...

PS2 was such a trash shit console. If it weren't for 3rd world shitters looking for a poor man's DVD player, it would have lost the generation.

>(USER WAS BANNED FOR THIS POST)

>Texture filters, CRT shaders and such? Disgusting.

No, at least that attempts to recreate how the game was meant to be seen. Playing SH raw looks like complete shit at times.

Nothing, combat is awful, the only thing you do is either running like a headless chicken between the key items and puzzles, gathering resources on the way, or stop every 30 secs to press r1 and square until all enemies die. And the story is completelly retarded and full of plotholes.

It's pure style over substance, a game created solely because RE was popular and Konami wanted a carbon copy, and wich only exells in its art and music, both of which were great.

Mods at it again

The lore is spectacular. It's the only media that does "evil cultists" and "hell" with flawless execution.

That door is my favorite part of SH1 along with nowhere.>Nothing, combat is awful, the only thing you do is either running like a headless chicken between the key items and puzzles, gathering resources on the way, or stop every 30 secs to press r1 and square until all enemies die. >It's pure style over substance
Sounds exactly like Resident Evil. Except combat in Silent Hill is much better.

youtube.com/watch?v=cT-Z13Px0Tw

that eye-rape is fucking horrible. I much rather have my 1:1 clear pixels than that 01/20 eyesight simulator.

>those insanely upscaled pre-rendered assets that are jagged as hell with nothing to offset it

No thanks

Subarashii.

>pre-rendered
you don't even understand how SH1 works, do you?

pic related is closer to how I usually play the game.

Puzzles ruined it for me.

Nice

>I'm literally dumber than the 10yos back in 1999!
FTFY

...

...

Looks awful to be honest. That's more like smoke + strong wind. Fog should be much more static.

>spot the newfag
Wait, I don't need to do that you are so fucking new it hurts.

Oh dear.

My man.
