Bump

N64

anything that isnt capable of being emulated in a playable state right now

I like the Super Nintendo.

>Never owned a PlayStation console in my life
Did I actually miss out on anything?
Like, what did I miss besides MGS?
Really nothing as far as I know.

3DS
PS2
N64
PS3
Wii
PSP

Wii and PS2 (assuming you want to emulate at the original resolutions). 360 if you want to play Ninja Gaiden Black, JSRF and Lost Odyssey.

N64 if you're really intense about N64 games that weren't emulatable in Wii.

NES, SNES, N64, PS, PS2, PS3, PS4maybe, Dreamcast, Wiimaybe, PSP, DS, 3DS

Spyro the Dragon, Last of Us

Bought a PS2 to play some DDR. Neither the system nor the games have aged well.

Seriously, sometimes things are better left in the past.

Crash, Jak, Ratchet, KH, some FFs, Prince of Persia

Which?

>Spyro the Dragon
Am I the only person that never found any of the Sony platformers appealing?
There was always something about stuff like Crash and Spyro that felt like bargain bin or shovelware games to me.

Also, the N3DS for the whole lineage of Nintendo handhelds and to 16bit in one; and PSP if you want PS1 handheld emulation and a great library.

All of'em are dirt cheap by now, except N64.

Hacked PSP
3DS
PS4

>PS4
but why? I still don't see a reason to get one

There really isn't.

3DS is darn good.

Ouya, you don't need anything else.

Kek

considering that you can emulate PS1 what you missed there is the world's shittiest hardware creating the ugliest polygon graphics physically possible

Get a Wii U over a Wii, it has access to all of the Wii homebrew and you can play stuff like Bayonetta 2, Wonderful 101, Smash 4, Splatoon, Tropical Freeze, etc all for free and you can even get DLC and play online for pirated games

The Crash and Spyro handheld games are ok, the 3d console games haven't aged as well though, especially Crash 1.

>Smash 4, Splatoon,
why not just wait for the switch ports

Smash 4 is unconfirmed, and Splatoon's not a port
And if you're going to get a Wii just spend the extra $50 or so and get a Wii U since all the games are free

Can't Wii U play both Wii and GameCube? That's pretty fucking neat honestly.
You're able to play a shit load of games.

>and Splatoon's not a port
MK8 isn't a port either, see they added battle mode and character that makes it MK8-2

Yeah it can play Wii discs and the hardware can natively play GC games since it has all the functions of a normal Wii, it won't read GC discs but you can play isos from an SD card with homebrew
And it can emulate NES, SNES, N64, DS, GB, GBA, Genesis, and some other stuff with retroarch
If you have the GC adapter you can use all the GC stuff like the bongos
Splatoon 2 has completely different specials, and weapons I think, and I think there's only 1 returning stage. I haven't watched all the videos on it yet though.

That's fucking awesome man. How hard is it to homebrew? A Wii U might be a great purchase.

Its not hard at all. Wii U was the first console I hacked and it only took me like an hour and a half or so. There's a guide on /hbg/. Basically all you do is download some files, copy it to an SD card, put the card in the wii U and let it install the stuff. You download the games through a client on your computer, then put it on the SD card, and use an app to install it either to the system memory or a hard drive (and then you can delete it from the SD card). And you can play online and get DLC for pirated games.
Basically all you'll need is a Wii U which you can get refurbished from Nintendo for $200, or a cheaper one used on ebay or something, plus a USB HDD (500 GB is more than enough for the whole library), a y-cable for the HDD, an SD card that's at least 32 GB (the biggest Wii U games are 20 GB, I use a 128 GB to keep Wii and GC games on as well) and you can play everything. You can also pirate the virtual console games or try injecting roms into the VC emulator yourself, or just use other homebrew emulators. Its a great purchase if you want to use it as an emulation machine.

Hacked Vita
Hacked 3DS with Flashcart
Hacked Wii
PS4

PS4 and a hacked 3DS.

Awesome! I wanted to collect consoles and shit, but this sounds like a better and cheaper option.

Can I do it with the latest update or do I need to worry about that?

>y-cable
Why?

Also thanks for all the info man.

Its hackable on the latest firmware. In fact I think works best on the latest firmware.
You need a y-cable because the Wii U doesn't power the HDD enough on its own, so you need another power source. Not sure why its like that that since the Wii didn't need it.
>Also thanks for all the info man.
No problem! hope you can find a good deal.

From all the consoles (Minus PSP) I think this is probably the easiest to mod.
Especially if it's only like shown in this video
youtube.com/watch?v=dZssZ4iG8wA
Does this launcher have some sort of app store that let's you download all the games? Or do I need to transfer them to the HDD?

Hopefully! On Ebay they seem to be a bit expensive, I am probably better off going through Nintendo, or CL.
Gonna keep my eyes out for a good deal.
Cheers.

and it still BTFO'd nintendo and sega

paizuri

these things are gonna skyrocket in price once the flash cart gets released

That video just shows to get the homebrew launcher on it, there's a few more steps than that. These are the videos I watched when hacking mine:

You'll have to legitimately buy a DS game off the eshop if you use the haxchi method though, the cheapest one is Brain Age at $7 I think, but its worth it imo to have installed to the home menu.

psp for ps1 games, psp games and emulating nes, snes, neogeo etc
ps3 phat for ps1, ps2 and ps3 games
ps4 for exclusives and a couple vita games
3ds for nds and 3ds games
wii u(if you can't emulate it on pc)

JSRF for example

So is it worth purchasing? Or is there proper emulation?

>Haxchi
Is this another form of homebrew, or something done alongside?

>Must Haves
PC (Emulation and shit)
PS2 (plays ps1 games)
Wii (plays GC and can emulate more popular n64 games)
GBA SP (Plays GBC, GB games)
3DS (plays DS, hackable)

>maybes
N64 (if you like platformers, flashcart is a must)
SNES, NES, Mega Drive with a flashcart if you don't trust emulation.
Vita if you like weebshit

yeah emulation is still unreliable

Its like a signature patch thing. The way you play pirated games installed to USB is by using a program that spoofs the Wii U into thinking you bought the games legit. You can do this through haxchi or a couple of other methods, I'm not sure how reliable they are though.
haxchi is generally considered the best I think since you can install it to the home menu, only downside is you have to buy a DS game and then hack it into haxchi (and don't reinstall the game again or it'll brick so use something you don't want to play)

must own handhelds
>GBA SP
>3DS

with the SP you get the entire gameboy, gameboy color, and gameboy advance library with a backlight/frontlight, 3DS you get the entire DS and 3DS library.

Wii U is better than Wii since it has all the Wii homebrew

ps3 and wiiu. thats gonna let you play any older console

By the end of this decade, PS4.

>consoles
>PC

Good point. I just don't 'trust' the WiiU's emulation of the Wii and by extension the gamecube.

You can use a PC as an emulator box basically to play other consoles.

I see. I just finished watching the video. So basically after starting the Wii U, I launch haxchi to be able to see all the games, emulators, and other?

Wii U doesn't emulate Wii or gamecube, the hardware runs it natively. Its literally just a wii inside the console

It's still a computer, not a console

PC is awesome because it can basically play all of them, and it's extremely fucking simple.
All controllers are supported also.

Basically yeah. You can still see anything you've installed to your system, just if you try to start them without booting up haxchi first it'll tell you it can't be played, in which case you just back out and start haxchi.

Sounds great. Can I completely ignore the web exploit or will I need to do it to be able to install haxchi?
I think I got it man, it's simple.

Oh, well shit my bad. Thanks for that.

A console is basically a locked down computer (^:

That's my point

You'll need to do the web exploit the first time to install the homebrew launcher and haxchi itself to your menu.

>A console is basically a locked down computer
Then there is no reason to own one, yet they're still sold separately

Awesome!

>Buy Wii U
>Load homebrew files on SD card and launch with web exploit
>Format SD card
>Buy DS game
>Load haxchi and install with homebrew launcher

PS1
PS2
PS3
PS4

Yep that's pretty much all the steps. Then you can download the games and install them.
Keep in mind you have to hack the wii mode separately so its a bit different.

>Keep in mind you have to hack the wii mode separately so its a bit different
I'll definitely keep in mind, although I am less interested in Wii U.

I really do fucking appreciate the help user, thanks a shitload.

No problem man.

Ps4,snes,ps1,n64 i could do without the rest

Cheers.

>PS3
>PS4

>must have

>Sometime this year

Can't wait

3DS, PS2, PS3, PS4, Vita TV, Saturn, and Genesis

PS2 Fat (For PS2 exclusives)
Xbox HUEG (For Xbox HUEG exclusives)
Vita/Vita TV (For Vita, PSP, and PS1 games)
N64 (For N64 games, Get a Flash card)
Saturn (For Saturn's import exclusives)
Wii/Wii U (For other Nintendo console games, Wii specifically if you need to use GameCube Link Cables or it's memory cards)
3DS (For Nintendo Handheld games)
Xbox 360 (For most 360 exclusives and console exclusive game of that gen)
PS3 (For PS3 exclusives and imports)
PS4 (If you're a weeb)

Everything else for the most part is on PC.

You missed out on Devil May Cry 1 and 3.

>Hueg
Not many worthwhile ones.

>PS2 Fat
>PS3
An original model PS3 is better. It can play PS1, PS2, and PS3.

>Wii
Dolphin is pretty much perfect.

>Xbox 360
The Xbox One has backwards compatibility with a lot of games, that number is steadily growing.

Probably because they look like ass since the Playstation wasn't that powerful. It could hold tons of memory but the graphical output just wasn't there.

Depends on what you like and amount of genre variety.

The PS1 is overall the best console for 2D platformers, RPGs and action games
The N64 mainly for the 3d platformers and the best early console FPS, but it lacks hidden gems
The SNES for overall HUGE variety of games from all kinds of genres
The PS2 has all kinds of hidden gems
I want to say the Gamecube but I can't say what is the go-to game for it, that also applies to the PS3
