Itt: Series where the first game was objectively the best

itt: Series where the first game was objectively the best.

Bonus points if sequels were progressively worse.

1 and 2 are equally good but they are a bit different tonally. 1 is all around grungy/industrial and extremely moody. 2 has very clean, almost sterile looking environments on the spess station contrasted by horrific xenomorphs. DS1 is to Silent Hill 3 as DS2 is to System Shock 2. 2 has better gameplay though and gameplay is king.

2 is shit, the gameplay is not good at all.

What does it do worse than 1?

>inb4 dark souls somehow being better than either sequel when it has aged like milk

>improved everything from DS1
>hurr gameplay not good

What a shitty thread

>implying

Dead Space 1 has the better tone and atmosphere. The gameplay improvements are tiny

Everything

How do you function in daily life being so fucking delusional. I bet I could convince you to swap a Ferarri 550 for a Hyundai Accent and you'd think it was a good deal and an upgrade.

Crysis

Dark Souls
I'm so disappointed with DS3 and all it's "working as intended" garbage

I will say gameplay is fine but story is a complete disaster

Mass effect

Excluding 3s multiplayer

>1st is a nice straightforward action game with good puzzles, awesome atmosphere, and an ok story
>Sequel wants to be Zelda, Diablo, Tomb Raider, and a bunch of other shit while forgetting what made the first game good

Hopefully DS3 makes up for it.

>Everything
Could you provide some points of argument?

FEAR is an easy one.

Fable

If the first game is indeed the best, then by definition the first sequel is already progressively worse

Since this is almost always excluding some series like System Shock and KotoR, isn't a better topic to find a series where the first game is the worst in the series?

Hitman was like this for a while until Absolution came out.

Mega Man X
Fallout
Dead Space
Mafia

...

Dead Space 2 was way better though.

Sly
Warcraft
Uncharted
The Witcher
Street Fighter

>Sly 1 the worst

This is good to know. I bought the HD collection a few years back, played Sly 1 and thought it was garbage. I didn't bother with the sequels. Maybe I should sometime.

Problem with Sly 1 is it has way too many dumb minigames for its own good. 3 has a lot of them too but they're not as annoying and some are even pretty fun, while the ones in 1 are just painful. I think the rest of the gameplay in 1 is fine desu.

Dragon Age, Only Origins and awakening are good

F.E.A.R
Dino Crisis
Devil May Cry
Bioshock
Dead Rising
Half-Life
Doom
Dark Souls (the trilogy, not counting DeS)
Max Payne
Gothic
Unreal

>Everything
Not an argument.

Games don't age. I game that was good then hasn't magically gotten shittier.

>Devil May Cry

Kek, game has no styles and variety in combat, shit villain and has like 4 bosses with the final boss not even being a proper fight and has zero replayability.

DMC started at 3

Fallout
BioShock

DMC3 and 4 have great combat and nothing else. They only shine if you're content dicking around in bloody palace. Worse level design, worse music, worse characters, no atmosphere and worse pacing. DMC1 is the better all around game.

Shit fucking post.

Dino Crisis 2 is better than 1
Bioshock 2 is better than 1 (also SS2 is better than BS1)
Max Payne 2 is better than 1

And fuck you, Dead Space 1 is better than 2.

>And fuck you, Dead Space 1 is better than 2.
But why?
>(also SS2 is better than BS1)
I don't disagree there.

Dead Space 2 was better than 1, if only slightly.
DS2's atmosphere improved on the first game's by a huge margin.

You have good taste

>DS2's atmosphere improved on the first game's by a huge margin.

I wonder what life is like when you are this delusional

>DS2's atmosphere improved on the first game's by a huge margin.
Eh, I just think they both just do their own thing.

>Dino Crisis 2 is better than 1

Incorrect, but rest is on the money

I wonder if people would like DS2 if it didn't have a waifu in it, and Isaac just slowly went mad on his own

I wouldn't know, ask your psychiatrist.
The Titan Station is much better laid out than the Ishimura. They managed to make it feel lived on instead of a purposefully lifeless industrial ship. Both games had wonderful atmosphere but DS2 just did it better.

Ellie improved the game but I loved the game regardless of her and Strauss' arc.
