No one played CRPG's
This, sadly, plus Activision.
Three games in six years. RPGs, no less. Also, what said - it was a dark time for CRPG as gaming turned more and more toward consoles.
>make three games
>all three are flawed gems beloved by fans of the genre
Troika did more in their scant half dozen years than most studios can hope to achieve in their existence.
Activision and Valve fucked them over with the handling of the Spurce engine licensing plus some other stuff and the PC market was in a big decline at the time.
Also VtM:B was just shit, too.
Vampire was great, too bad it was unfinished.
Which other games did Troika make?
Vampire, Arcanum and Elemental Evil
...
Arcanum
Temple of Elemental Evil
Bloodlines
Arcanum
Ahhh thank you anons. I guess Inquisitor was not their work.
vtmb was literally unplayable piece of broken shit
arcanum had horrible writing (hello gilbert bates! it was basically fallout 2: enhanced edition in terms of unfunny shtick humor), completely broken combat and also completely unplayable second half of the game
toee was a competent rpg that is also probably the most generic rpg ever made because copypasting dnd manual is so much fun. yay what could there possibly be in floor number 7? oh no a bearbug mark 2?! time to cast magic missile level 3! pew pew pew!
surprised they did not get put out of their misery sooner.
Didnt make the leap to the console markets, their biggest sellers were other people's IPs, they were sentinmentalists as far as hiring / retaining employees... coders and artists who were great for 2D weren't necessarily great for 3D. You see the same problems with Obsidian today.
>Troika made a game where you can gay marry a pirate
Good riddance.
>arcanum had bad writing
kek, eat shit
This. Arcanum was the only half decent game they ever made and it was still flawed as shit.
ToEE had an immaculate recreation of the worst D&D combat system possible based in a module that's only vaguely fun with a group of friends who all just want to have some laffs over bullshit dungeon crawling, but was singleplayer.
VtM:B's only good elements were the lore which it lifted wholesale from the TRPG and that one spooky level. The actual writing Troika did was horribly god damn juvenile and the combat was fucking dogshit.
how much gay sex do you think has occurred on pirate ships ?
There's two reasons why Obsidian is still in business: Feargus Urquhart is a goddamn wizard at getting them deals to stay afloat even if they get gypped by publishers and Kickstarter literally saved their ass.
>dat feel when they had bankruptcy marked on the calendar in case PoE funding failed
Helll, man went on record saying he HOPE someone buys them out because it's such a quarter-to-quarter existence for them and has been since foundation.
They couldn't design a working game if their life depended on it.
fallout 2 had such shit writing omg
fallout 3 and fallout 4 had better writing
Wasn't masturbation yet invented back then?
Yep Feargus has been trying to crack the console market since the Black Isle days. The Pillars 2 fig campaign went well, but it's still peanuts compared to AAA development. I really want to see this action console rpg Cain and Boyarsky are working on, I am guessing there is a major publisher floating that one.
Well gay sex takes place in modern prisons and I'm sure they're familiar with masturbation.
After expending twice the budget, they can't finish a single game before the 3rd deadline to save their lines. Idiots keep blaming the "evil" publishers tho.
>defending Activision
Blizzcuck, leave.
>action console rpg
Source? There is literally no info except for a bunch of guys working on it
Wow, people can be such faggots...
>reddit spacing
Bitch all you want, but our guy Bobby Kotick knows his business. Troika are a bunch of incompetent fucks and they burn money.
VtM:B was amazing, but was unfortunately unfinished and buggy as fuck, affecting sales considerably. It was an expensive failure that wasn't fixed until it was too late.
It's really not that simple.
>first 3D game
>brand new engine
>barely any time for proper testing
>forced multiplayer before it was scrapped
