What does Sup Forums think of visual novels?

Stumbled upon pic related, liked it because I identified with the general message.

I particularly was never a fan of the genre, but I fear this one may be the gateway drug. Should I be worried? Or are they just a casualized version of actual novels?

lmaoing @ u

Well you could move onto some other visual novels like YMK, or you could just head over to /ksg/ and circlejerk for another 1000 threads.

For babby's first VN, though, it is pretty good. Also, Lilly is best girl.

before the shitposters storm through

yes this can be considered as babay's first VN
not that it sucks its still considered good and was made by this community
compared to other VNs it is kind of short but easy to get into
just dont go autistic like /ksg/ does those people are insane
heres a guide if you want to actually get into it its a little old but it works

As some wise user said earlier, visual novels are the white chocolate of video games. They can be good, but they AREN'T VIDYA for the most part.

That being said I like them.

>liked it because I identified with the general message
lmao

also this one
probably similar i didnt really compare them but there might be some other ones

Agreed, my friend. Knew it when I first laid eyes on her.
Surprisingly helpful, anons. Thanks.

there really should be a /vn/ board considering how hated they are here but it would probably devolve into autistic waifu threads so maybe its best to have VN threads here every once in a while
that way it can have a little verity even with the shitposters

>I particularly was never a fan of the genre, but I fear this one may be the gateway drug. Should I be worried?

KS is a lot of peoples first experience with VNs, and if you found the experience likeable enough then you'll probably like more VNs. It isn't anything to worry about, you're not going to pick up Eurphoria or Starless because you played/read Katawa Shoujo, you'll do it for the content.

KS ruined my life.

if you really want to see if you are dragged in then play clannad
and dont buy the steam version nothing wrong with it really but its a bit pricey just do what everyone doeas and download it from one of the many places that have it
if you can stand the vn style for the large amount of time clannad demands of you
then yeah vns are for you
it really isnt a bad thing its one of those things you can do when you are in the mood for it

Evangelion ruined mine.

She'll never lay her eyes on you though

Check out Planetarian m8.

but she lays her fingers on you

Playing through Umineko now.

Start is pretty boring, but that's normal. I've heard that I'm going be in for a wild ride once the plot picks up.

what's the point of a vn?

they're like a game but without gameplay?

Yup, they are like games but without boring gameplay.

I don't see why anyone would bother desu

It's like if you took out all the shitty boring dungeon crawling in Persona and left all the actual fun stuff.

>I particularly was never a fan of the genre, but I fear this one may be the gateway drug. Should I be worried?

Yes. Yes you should be.

One minute it's harmless comedic gary stu stuff like Grisaia no Kajitsu and the next it's actually months later and you've found yourself downloading something like Starless or Euphoria out of morbid curiosity.

Jokes aside, VNs for the most part aren't all that great but there are a few titles that are fun to waste a few evenings playing.

It's like one of those choose your own adventure books, but with pictures and voice acting and often sex scenes.
