General Cheng Pu

General Cheng Pu.
You have made it at last. Also:

- More ways to capture castles. Can raid castles from high places. Stealth infiltration also possible.

- Long-Range Arrow FPS mode from 5 confirmed returning & usable for all characters.

- Time & Weather will change real-time. Enemies will be harder to detect you on nighttime & rain.

- Map has Main Missions that will progress history but difficult, so beat related missions to reduce diff like 4

- State Combo system: Moveset will change phantasmagorically based on surrounding enemy situations. State Combo starts with Trigger attack, then Follow attacks which active change, & ends with Finish attack.

- Interactive Action: Action that changes based on terrain & objects. Can attack with field objects.

- Grappling hook can be used to not only climb castle walls but also high mountains.

- Swimming confirmed returning from DW6
You can also use oil cans to trigger fire attacks.

- Battles are not split by stages. Battles in the same era (date) will take place in different places.

- If you go to Nanman during Yellow Turban Rebellion, Nanman ppl will be talking about Zhang Jiao.

- Story is character-based (back to pre-DW7). But there will be no What-If branches.

- The era is corresponding to character chosen. eg. Zhao Yun starts around 184, Wang Yuanji starts after 234.

- Boats are also added as transportation because it takes 5 minutes if you cross the yellow river swimming

- On land you mainly move by riding horse, but they're also planning to add Fast Travel system.

Character models are being renewed for PS4.
Switching character mid-game is still under consideration.

- You can also do things like hunting wild animals with archery, or battling foreign tribes.

- Cheng Pu's weapon is 双矛 Double Pike
(No words on Zhang Fei's weapon yet)

- Seems the era will change after clearing main mission, eg. Beating Zhang Jiao will move time to Dong Zhuo era.

- The basic major flow of history in each character story is basically the same (closer to DW2-5 story modes)

- Character switch mid-game still not confirmed

- There will be over 10 unique cities + generic towns & villages.
1 area's size is about 1 kilometer(square?) each.

- Luoyang seems to be confirmed into the 10+ unique city list, so expect cities like Chengdu, Chang'an & Jianye there.

-Character designs to be less flashy and more realistic/militaristic

>no what-if branches

That's too bad. Lu Bu's hypothetical route was amazing.

What game?

Been out of the Koei loop for a while, are you talking about new DW or Empires, ROTK etc?

>open world meme

I'd say it's quite ambitious game

Quite daring for them to pursue this kind of game

Playing a character's story mode will probably result in some sort of "what-if" story I suppose.

Especially for characters dying early.

It hope it will be better handled that DW5 though, cause it was kinda sad seeing everyone not giving a fuck about your character int he missions where he's historically dead.

>But there will be no What-If branches
Still jewing the fans with Xtreme Legends I see

Do people even buy XL anymore? It's a fucking joke. Although I do seem to prefer Empires over mainline these days.

I'll buy it if they do a Complete Edition like 8. Buying the expansion by itself is pretty weak

>-Character designs to be less flashy and more realistic/militaristic
YES. YEEESSSSSSS

DW5 designs were fucking excellent

>-Character designs to be less flashy and more realistic/militaristic

That's pretty cool, but won't that piss off the fujoshis? They're pretty much half of the consumer base of DW at least in Japan, and I guess most of them play the game to shlick to scantily-clad bishonens bonding together.

Alternative or DLC costumes

Anybody else besides Cheng Pu announced?

If you haven't played the game yet with XL already out it's a good deal

He Man

Yeah, that's what I thought afterwards. Most old costumes will probably be available that way, I suppose.

I wonder if the "more realistic/military" look will also apply to female characters.

Hopefully we won't get another fucking fictional Guan Yu/Zhang Fei's son or daughter.

It's a shame because all of this sounds really, really good. Seems to be going back to pre-DW6/7 era in multiple ways, however

>open world

Dong Tuna.

What's the name of that guy who made Zhuge Liang look like a fool and then died

That would be kinda neat. I don't see how characters like Zhang Jiao would work otherwise.

>I wonder if the "more realistic/military" look will also apply to female characters.
I hope so. To be honest Dynasty Warriors needed a full rehash, it was long overdue and just became a yearly release that you would never really be too excited for.

They could do a dick move similar to DW6 and only makes a handful of characters with a playable Story mode, relegating the rest to Free mode.

Doesn't sound like anybody I remember from reading the books, but there were plenty of people that Zhuge Liang trolls to death in the books.

Sima Yi is the only person who really fucks with Zhuge in the fiction.

is this DW9?

also as someone who hasnt played since 5 (I played Orochi 3 though), can someone tell me how the Empires/Extreme legends work? are they stand alone games or expansions?

>Cheng Pu

Holy shit, it feels like forever that the fans have been wanting this guy.

Liao Hua confirmed for happening before Half Life 3.

I see this happening more. Story mode for the main series characters and free for the rest.

Pang Tong?

Empire are stand-alone games. Ultra-lite RotK where you can kill stuff with custom-made characters.

X-Treme are also stand-alone, but are better appreciated when paired with the original game.

Really think the roster could do with having a lot of the fat trimmed

>is this DW9?

Yeah

>Character designs to be less flashy and more realistic/militaristic

This seems like a step towards a serious direction at first but if you know Koei Tecmo these days that can another meaning:

"You want your husbandos and waifus in clothing that made you buy these games before you didn't really care about the Sangokushi setting? Please buy our DLC my dear secondaries."

Yeah, that would work, and it's likely. But I hope Koei are feeling extra ambitious and try nailing together a proper story for every goddamn character.

Which is just a nice way to say several female characters they recently added.

Cao Hong this time?
Ma Su?
Liao Hua?
Gao Shun?
Yuan Shu?
Cheng Yu?

so you cant get one game with all the different modes? seems a bit redundant having 3 separate games in this day and age

>Story is character-based (back to pre-DW7). But there will be no What-If branches.

This is a serious indicator only key characters will playable on story.

It probably means both.

DLC costumes from older series have been around since, what, Warriors Orochi 2? There're probably gonna be here this time too, there's nothing really surprising/shocking about that.

As of now dev work is still only 40% complete.

>seems a bit redundant having 3 separate games in this day and age
You underestimate Koei and their jewish ways.

Proof or it didn't happen.

So you're saying March 2019?

Will the characters finally show a bit of physical aging? What happened in the Yukimura game shouldn't be a one time thing.

I think that mobile DW game artworks for established characters as older figures.

Well, 8 and X-Treme are now sold as one game, so that's more like two different games.

However, in the (likely) case 9 gets an Xtreme add-on, you'll have to buy it separately, or wait for a bundle, like 8, to get both at the same time (for roughly the same price as one game, but you'll have to wait for years before it happens I guess)

Empires will probably stay as a stand-alone though. It really wouldn't be that hard to include in the original game I think, but let's be honest, Koei want that money.

I still enjoy 4 the most

>That's pretty cool, but won't that piss off the fujoshis?

I don't think so. People more invested in their imaginary waifus would end being more annoyed. Well, maybe.

no I mean why not just release them digitally as expansions for the main game, that way completionists would be compelled to buy the whole lot

Oh.. no idea. It would make sense though, maybe they have different development teams which makes it easier as a standalone release?

So this is basically going to be THE Dynasty Warriors game to signal next gen for the franchise? Keep in mind last time this happened was with DW6.

Pretty sure the fujoshi fandom far outnumbers the waifu fandom in DW.

To the point the top ten most popular characters only have 3 women in it.

Fujos just love their Sangokushi and Sengoku.

Why was 5's music so fucking good

Better costume. Still, best Wei.

It sounds really cool and all but the implementation will probably be sub-par knowing Omega Force

This is one of those cases where open would could be a massive game changer even though I have no idea how they would implement it in a Musou game. DQH2 style where you have large zones between missions or something?

I will wait and see how it looks in motion first, they are planning big but the ending result could be a low budget open world with laughable locations, transition and visuals.

Good. Most of the female characters are fictional anyway just so it's not a sausage fest. Samurai Warriors is better off in that department at least.

I'm glad she has that helmet to protect her or else that outfit would be ridiculous

Your question first should be "how much money is being invested on it?"

Open world games require astronomical budgets to look good and play good, this is a high gamble that developers should always think twice before partaking on it, not just following it because GTA always sells above 10 million copies nowadays and wins awards worldwide, that happens because they are masters at the genre and can spend 250 million dollars on a game.

considering she used to look like this, that is ridiculous

That's her default costume now? Jesus fuck.

>DQH2 style where you have large zones between missions or something?

I think that's EXACTLY what they're going to do so it won't end up being massive cost or anything. It'll probably translate to couple of larger zones or expanded camps, which is something they've been fiddling with the last few games. Not to mention they got to try out new ideas in all the licensed games they did.

Pretty much this, Omega Force simply hasn't shown any actual strenght in being able to make great projects on their own.

I am not expecting great things out DW9, I am hoping it is an average fun game at least and not a total disaster.

I have a hard time caring for mainline games when the Orochi series was so much more fun, all the best characters in one game is so much better than the nickle and dime solo games.

>Pu

It's okay if you settle for even more dumbed down gameplay and wants to enjoy cool crossover encounters.

Others want to see the mainline games evolve in gameplay, visuals, and narrative in the way the same tale is told.

>resolution

orochi was probably unsustainable due to sheer number of characters

>making new models for almost 150 characters all at once
yeah, that's not happening any time soon.

musou stars is apparently the intended replacement but I'm not exactly keen on that yet.

>Cheng Pu
Well played. Almost got worried we'd get Lu Xun's son without aging Xun in the process.

>dumbed down gameplay spoken in the same breathe as the main series evolving its gameplay
Ha, thanks for the chuckle

>Still, best Wei.
Muh husband is better than yours.

She isn't jack shit now.

Who are these others, though? KOEI seems to realize Musou games don't have insane appeal outside of licensed games they've been making. People who don't buy or play your games are not exactly relevant to your bottom line.

I can't fathom how this game will work without seeing it.

Orochi does have more simplistic movesets than the mainline games.

DQ Heroes 2 any good? I know 1 was a pile of shit.

Orochi is fucking terrible. I hated the mix-up, I prefer no crossovers.

>not wanting to play as Opona, Rio and Honkers
nigga are you gay?

>don't have insane appeal outside of licensed games they've been making
Are you jesting? While One Piece and Gundam licensed title sells due brand name alone, Koei's market in China only cares about Sangoku and Sengoku.

I've played DW since DW3.
Dynasty Warriors 8 made me never want to buy another Warriors game again. It was once my favorite franchise of all time.

This really needs to be radically different if I'm going to pick this one up. And if they've cut ANY female characters I'm absolutely not buying.

>This really needs to be radically different i
well if you didn't notice yet, they seem shaking things up a bit
>And if they've cut ANY female characters I'm absolutely not buying.
so you admitting of being waifufag?

What? DW8 was basically a much better DW7 gameplay-wise, only with a slightly weaker story. How could that one make you hate the franchise if DW7 didn't? Not to mention DW6

This. DW8 was better in every way except the weaker direction with the story.

I don't understand your post, you say you hate 8, the very DW with the most pandering designs for female characters, and ends with saying you will skip 9 if they remove even one female character?

>mfw they dropped the narrator for DW8XL
I wonder if DW9 will even be dubbed the way they're cutting costs everywhere.

Still; dub vs getting games, latter will always win.

So was Toukiden 2 practically a testing grounds for the open world implementation?

Not that guy but what's wrong with being a waifufag if one also actually likes Sangokushi in its own as well? Fujos also know all about the characters they fawn at.

Shame too as I preferred the English dubs growing up with them. Then they randomly just stopped it.

I fucking hope not, Toukiden's "open world" was as low budget as it gets.

If they do it like Toukiden it can work.

It's OK being a waifufag, it's kind of dumb to drop a game because you feel like it doesn't pander to your waifufagging enough. Especially if that's not the game's main focus (and no, it isn't).

this user typed faster than me

Yeah, the overworld in that game ended up being incredibly static. Everything except the NPC operations (which just cycle from spot to spot) effectively respawned the next day. Still, for that series at least it did nothing good with the MH-style map.

DA DOO DOO

Toukiden is not a reference in open worlds one can brag about, it works in its simple nature but it is not praise worthy.

I guess it would be too much to ask for characters to age visually.

Some 10 or so key characters wouldn't be much trouble.

well i hope to god it won't be like toukiden 2

what a shitty open world that was.

I'd say they did a decent job with toukiden's open world

>Navigating the Age of Grace

What the fuck were they thinking?

use your eyes
